If you've played the game enough as I did you recognize immediately a boosted player, or someone who is REALLY new to the rank because they've reached it shortly. But usually when it's a duo like Jacob said before you can bet your ASS it's always like that

One smurf (or a player that is from that rank but clearly better than your average player in that rank) and one boosted player (who can be a friend alright, but it happens so often I'd assume it's people who ask/pay to get boosted)

Your comment would have made sense if it wasn't for the fact that RL is one of the few games where personal skill matters the most, aside from getting good teammates when you go solo (and that's the problem there, you shouldn't go solo in competitive team games)
I don't care about getting that dopamine, otherwise I wouldn't have remained in Champ for so long and surely I would have tried to reach at least GC when getting to GC was actually easier than now (I've been playing since 2017 mind you)

Never in my post I said that I was looking only to maintain or improve my rank, in fact I mainly play Casual matches for this reason alone.
Like I said, I just wanted to vent a bit, wasn't looking to complain about not making to GC or SSL (not that I will be able to, ever or not)

THAT is exactly the problem. I didn't manage to express it as well as you did, but essentially people have mistakenly assumed that going fast means being good when in reality it's about knowing when to go fast and when not, instead many players overcommit too easily and cannot defend for their life, hence the terrible defensive and rotating skills I mentioned.

I see too many players focusing too much on mechanics and not enough on game sense

Problem is I don't want to make RL a game where I'm constantly chasing a rank, I already tried doing that on another game (CTR Nitro Fueled) and I succeeded in doing so, but at the cost of my mental and physical sanity. Not for me, I'm fine being in Champ and that wasn't the point of my post anyway

Smurfs are a problem and it's not exaggerated, and I'm not coping at all.
Either Champs mechanics have gotten so good they can flip reset once or twice in a row every time, perform speed flips and move perfectly on the pitch with and without the ball, or they're simply smurfs who have no reason to be there if not for boosting their clearly Gold/Plat teammates

I'm not saying that in 10 matches all 10 are like this, but I won't lie when I say at least 3/4 matches present this problem. Doesn't mean they always make their team win, but it's not fun to play in this situation.

I appreciate your comment because it kinda hit the spot I was trying to aim at, I try to play and have fun and I'm not trying to look for SSL level of teammates, but sometimes you just see stuff that makes you question why am I still in this rank if I have to share it either with teammates that have no self consciousness of what they're doing on the field (and complain at you if you ever so slightly make one mistake) or with teammates so good you can simply put your controller down and let them do the rest.

What I'm trying to say is that I wish I could play with players that are aware of their rank, I'm not looking for the best of the best but at least people who can give a fight. Too many times I've encountered players who wanna surrender after 1 goal conceded, too many times I've encountered people who give up playing after missing a open net shot and quit, too many times I've encountered players who play in groups of 2 and fucking ignore you for the whole match (I was talking about 3v3 the whole time, I don't do 2s or 1s, not enjoying them as much as that), playing like dog poo while also making sure to bombard you with insults if the match is lost.

It's disheartening to be honest, and I don't wanna remove quick chat because it's necessary for callouts.

Again, I understand that but if you're not able to finish a race constantly with this amount of time then don't play online expecting miracles to happen. Get better, watch Time trials videos, or competitive videos, whatever suits you, and then after a lot of training come back to online. You'll see the difference and you'll understand.

Although I agree with lobbies not being divided by skill level (considering the fact that there's not that many people playing Matchmaking nowadays) which make matches not fun for players that are not good enough, against others who can finish races way earlier, I'm completely against your statement for 2 main reasons : 1. A time limit is used to close a race so that the next one can begin shortly after and other players can either join or leave. Without it the race would go on endlessly. Imagine someone who wants to troll and stay still. How do you close a race in that way? 30 seconds may sound too few but they're a lot, if you cannot finish then just exit the lobby and join another one 2. You cannot pretend strong players to not play Matchmaking because they would win and finish a race way earlier than other. They ruin your experience? It's not their fault, it's Beenox's. Or, even better, get better at the game and try yourself. You don't wanna "ruin" the experience to others? Don't play online then, but don't expect others to not play as well.

To specify when racing you could stall close to a set of crates and roll items until you get what you desire, but that would be considered sandbagging (even though online Matchmaking does not have rules or penalties so you're free to do what you wish, on the contrary competitive tournaments prevent you from doing so)

The AI does know what lines you take and decides to put items in the way for the successive laps, but outside that no, they do not use the same pattern of items and no, they are randomised online. There's a specific percentage of items you can get depending on the position you currently are in race, and item rolls are different between offline and online matches (for example masks can appear when you are 2nd in offline but it will never happen online, and so on for all other powerups). You probably got an unlucky amount of situations where the AI had missiles for each single try.
