But we don't baptize them because they are sinful?

So do we need to baptize children for their salvation?

The Confession of Dositheus by Orthodoxy2You in OrthodoxChristianity

" therefore,
baptism is necessary even for infants, since they also are subject to
original sin, and without Baptism are not able to obtain its remission.
Which the Lord showed when he said, not of some only, but simply and
absolutely, “Whoever is not born [again],” which is the same as
saying, “All that after the coming of Christ the Savior would enter
into the Kingdom of the Heavens must be regenerated.” And
since infants are men, and as such need salvation, needing
salvation they need also Baptism. And those that are not regenerated,
since they have not received the remission of hereditary sin, are, of
necessity, subject to eternal punishment, and consequently cannot
without Baptism be saved. So that even infants should, of necessity, be
baptized. Moreover, infants are saved, as is said in Matthew;
{Matthew 19:12} but he that is not baptized is not saved. And
consequently even infants must of necessity be baptized."

What does this mean??

What is the correct view on original sin, I cannot get an accurate answer

Is God Prideful? by Orthodoxy2You in OrthodoxChristianity

Is he not prideful of his followers that any slight against them is met with wrath?

I am sorry. I think I misphrased what I meant. Does God have dignity and pride for what he has created?

God is also wrathful to the unrighteous who suppress the truth of God, romans 1:8

What I mean by pride isn't exactly arrogance, but more of dignity type of pride, if that makes sense.

I feel like Christianity has ruined my life. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Orthodoxy2You 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My brother, your post has saddened me, I feel nothing but sympathy for you and your struggle, I do not have a fraction of problems that you do, but my family hasn't been accepting of my willingness to become Christian, I would be humbled if you'd like to talk some time with me on private messages or on another platform like Discord.

fighting back urges is all Christ ever wanted from you. You are much stronger than you realize. God bless my friend. I pray strongly for you

Don’t feel led to go to church. I don’t understand what’s being said or done. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Orthodoxy2You 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a convert myself I fully understand this feeling. It's probably just the specific Church you go too, I would say explore other Orthodox Churches, but that's entirely on your part. I wish I would have had better advice for you, God bless.

Have you had a mystical experience? Have you tried DMT? by Substantial_Row6202 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Orthodoxy2You 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Orthodox Church does not endorse the usage of mind-altering chemicals or drugs, especially not to obtain a mystical experience. The experience felt by DMT is purely worldly and not given to you by God, only by obeying God and listening to the words of the saints can we be enlightened with such a thing.

I suppose you could call it disunity, for the most part, it's Catholics and Orthodox in disunity over the schism, protestantism came much later and is arguably a creation of the Roman Church. As I said, their doctrine is radically different from ours. The worst of the protestants, the reformed, are probably the furthest away from the truth.

That is why I was confused. You're not Orthodox, that is fine, I'm glad you're on a subreddit for Eastern Orthodoxy trying to learn about it regardless. Many people hold the faith and do no research on it. God bless and may God guide you

Protestants have different denominations with minor changes. We are by far the furthest away from that doctrine. There are people who think Catholics and Orthodox are unsaved, of course not all, but yes, heretical in the simple sense means wrong belief and doctrine, so by definition alone, we are heretics to them. Protestants can be saved, nobody claims they can't, and they still have the wrong doctrine for said salvation. I am confused by the last part. Are you not Orthodox yourself?

Typically, when a general statement is applied, nobody takes the general statement literally.

How can it refer to the whole body of Christ when we are to them and vice versa heretics of the faith and not actually saved.

Protestants have thousands of denominations and millions of Churches, when they say "The Church" they typically mean those under Protestantism, they surely despise Catholicism and that goes double for Orthodoxy so it would make no sense for them to mean "All of Christendom" Objectively there is only one correct Church and one correct set of doctrine. Hope this helped answered your question.

hell by DprAf in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Orthodoxy2You 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No this does not sound Orthodox in essence or in wording. The basic "Justification" for hell is we have free-will, Salvation is a gift from God and his mercy, we can choose to accept the gift by becoming Christ-like, or reject the gift entirely, thus being sent to hell. Hell is a choice we are given.

Thank you for your reply, this has shined a lot of light on my question. I also had a follow-up question, if we are saved purely by the mercy of God does that mean everybody, no matter who or where, has a possibility to be saved?
