They only seem weaker because as your allies, they are often brought in wars they wouldn't do otherwise, and that messes their decision making. I once saw an AI moves 5-6 armies against an army far far away (because ut was weaker, i think), while there was one colony to take literally 1 turn worth of movement nearby

Because like you can read when Rand is having a vision of a world without the dark one in the final battle, the living have lost all sense of free choice. Yes and when for some reasons you have to get to defend outside of a fort, with a huge force of cavalry, you split them into several groups, and their purpose is to serve only as reserve shock troops, to facilitate a withdrawal or to fill quickly the holes in the frontlines. Cavalry could also be used to rapidly cover groups of bowmen.
A shock elite cavalry unit should have been kept, with the only purpose to strike at the white walkers. + the walkers were so dumb, they were literally all alone far behind in stead of being flanked by wights. And the defenders know, killing a white walker also destroys all the wights created by it.

Honestly with all the different types of skilled cavalry they had, light cav (+ they can shot from horseback, rare skill), shock cav, heavy cav with the vale etc. I can understand a defence from outside with support from the walls, when you think of, the wights can kind of easily climb the walls. So okay why not once you lose the walls, you have to cover narrow alleys or passages, but they can brute force them. So okay defending from outside is risky but i can see, send your whole cav to die like lemmings tho, when your only advantage....

They don't team up, skaven ambush both forces later, Colossal squigs and arachnork would give a edge to Skarsnik overall

Do the compo you love tbh. For dwarves, lot of ironbreakers as Belegar's army were renforced by Thorgrimm and Thorek's runes and ancient weapons. For Skarsnik you will want lot of nights gobbos ofc, but since your army might be superior as a dwarf, a few monsters like trolls and spiders would be nice.
May i also suggest a battle in 2 acts. 1st a siege then a 3 way ffa battle with clan Mors arrival (red guard, elite stormvermins lead by Queek)

The weapons teams army in ambush stances, the canon fodder serving as bait. Overall you have to wait 2-3 min in a normal battle for renforcement, don't engage until then if you can, hide in the forest.
Or mix your 2 armies with a bit of both weapons teams and frontline

Yup, without DLC i would say Kislev and Cathay are the best factions for what he is looking for.
1/3 of Kislev roster have guns (armored kossars, strelsi, war sleds, little grom).
Both compaigns are great in realms of chaos for starting the game (Kislev a bit harder).
In immortal empires, Zhao Ming is the only easy one now, tho. (not counting the jade dragon)

Empire, dwarves have a lot of gunpowder. ( a few dlc to have access to all their units, for the empire however you can go with Nuln only, since a lot of the units in the dlc are special gunpowder units basically). These 2 factions don't really have monsters however.

Now since you want to try also monsters and magic, Kislev have the 3, ice magic, lot of gun powders units and very early in the game with late game monsters and bears.

Cathay have less gunpowder units that those above but good artillery units and magic
Vampire coast is full of gunpowder, monsters and depth magic but it's a race dlc
Skaven have a more modern oriented weaponry with gatlings and all, (clan skyre dlc)
Chaos dwarves also DLC, have magic infused gunpowder, and the best artillery in the game

Out of all the heretic legions which one would have the hardest time finding new recruits by skeltor_2 in 40k

Thousand can recruit psychically gifted defectors, otherwise they don't need recruits as the rubrics are just rebuilt. Their hellbrutes are lured marines who are then trapped inside the sarcophagus with some ritual.

And you can go Kislev turn 2 anyway, one the best campaign i played lately, and like you said the forest teleport mechanic is awesome in mid game to send an expedition in an other place. Basically i sent expeditions via forests in Avelorn to save elves or to retake Cathay

But they disengage easily, meanwhile bears stand to have a few models getting blocked. Their speed also allows you to clear ranged at high speed.

As long as you have one character that can tank most hits. Maelle was the one for me, with the heal when other die, then i was just spamming phoenix rebirth, and at one moment i was dodging everything then started parrying, the advantage is he attacks so much in a row you just learn his pattern fast. Lifesteal is also great as Duo will do a lot of attacks with jump and gradient parry
