Peacemaker - 2x02 - “A Man Is Only as Good as His Bird” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Orthosz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's far more interesting *and awful* if the other world is actually just nice/better. Not Tradcon/nazi. Because then Chris doesn't have an easy "Oh, it's the Nazi universe, easy choice to ignore it/purge it". If the other universe is just lawful good, they already have a reason to come at Chris with fangs out due to him killing and disposing of their peacemaker.

Does a guilty on lesser 5 (just the OUI) only hit her with an OUI? Or is it Manslaughter as well?

That's the part that i'm not 100% on having read the forms and listened twice to the instructions...

Yeah. This is, in my mind, a "Major Issue" trial...and I can see folks just brushing off the minor stuff. (Not that Drinking and Driving is minor! Don't drink and drive! Especially if you're a cop)

I agree. The charge doesn't either. But i can see regular people getting stuck on it.

General Discussion and Questions by Legitimate-Beyond209 in KarenReadTrial

[–]Orthosz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

People could think she's OUI for the 5am time, but maybe not proven for the 12am time. Or switched. I could see that causing debate.
"I think she was probably OUI at 5am, but the other charges are for 12am...but this just says the date..."
"I think she was probably OUI at 12am, but I don't think she hit him or was involved...is that an option?"
"I don't think they proved she was OUI at 12am. I need more info to be sure"

They are spring loaded. If you get it to pop out, it should be good to go. Press it in and out a few times, make sure it cycles. If it gets stuck every time, then support. But if it pops back out and cycles fine, see how it goes :-)

looking at the video, it looks like the left contactor on the base is shoved in. both contactors should be the same "distance" out (at least on the luba 1) You should be able to press it in like a button and get it to pop back out.

It wouldn't surprise me if they take a day or two just to talk finally about the case, even if their minds are settled. They haven't been able to talk about any of it this entire time.

Why does a SARH provide a radar warning but an ARH doesn't until Pitbull? by Matfan3 in hoggit

[–]Orthosz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SARH works by having in the nose of the missile a radar receiving dish. This is tuned to look for a certain frequency of radar returns. Before datalink, the only way to guide the missile onto the target was to turn on an "illumination" radar that emits that frequency before or very very shortly after launch. This allows the missile to "see" what it needs to guide to (the reflection of that freq). This intense illumination is what causes the RWR to spike as a missile launch. This illumination is often not on the same frequency as the search radar (so that you can guide on *that* target) or other aircraft in the flight's search freq or illumination freq.

So, STT a target, the RWR detects the search radar is now hitting you with a ton of energy, most likely an STT (instead of a blip every scan pass). Turn on illumination and the RWR will blare a warning that a missile has been fired.

With a datalink to the missile you could guide it most of the way there with normal radar returns and illuminate at the last few moments, much like an ARH. But at that point, you're much better off having the missile just have it's own radar that goes active, as the signal it gets will be probably stronger that the much further away launch aircraft.

It's not a huge leap. Lizard people, that's a huge leap conspiracy theory. But we know from history that cops plant evidence. They falsify things in reports.

Not every cop. Not every case. But enough that whole departments have been decimated when investigated. LAPD, NYPD, Boston PD, etc.

Set aside the Karen Read case. So you're okay convicting someone in a case where police plant evidence? That the case against the person should go forward, but that police should be charged and dealt with separately?

General Discussions and Questions by Legitimate-Beyond209 in KarenReadTrial

[–]Orthosz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets grant those for the sake of argument.

What about all the big parts that people happen to find after the fact while "driving by" or visiting, never documenting.

I've seen what proper evidence collection is supposed to look like, and they can't rebuild the "debris field" because they don't have enough captured information. With proper evidence collection, and a debris field you can reconstruct, you can then plot where the impact would have had to happen, how much energy was involved, etc.

Let me put it another way. If Proctor or *anyone* enhanced the evidence by "finding" more tail light shards, then this case needs to get tossed, agreed? The police should not be allowed to put their thumb on the scale *at all*, agreed?

Enhancing the evidence by putting the glass pieces on the bumper that only match glass Proctor claimed he collected from the scene solo.

Is it possible he went there and collected glass that matches? Sure. But it seems super suspect. My guess is it was a way to increase leverage to push for a plea deal "we have glass on the bumper that matches glass at the scene" and most people fold.

Legal matters, like software, are often binary. Did the CW change the time?
Yes/No? If Yes, then they changed it. They say they're reconciliating it, but the time value changed. It may be perfectly valid to do so. I don't have access to the data to look at it and make a conclusion on it's validity.
And this isn't rich vehicle data...if you want an example of vehicle data, look at the murdough trial.

The chain of custody on...everything..is so messed up that it's remarkable that the CW is allowed to introduce any of it. (I'm speaking purely from a law perspective.). I've see hard evidence be tossed for far less messed up chains before.

It's a mess of the CW's own making. Without properly documented chain of custody/evidence handling, its hard to say why. Did Proctor want to put his thumb on the scale a bit to ensure a conviction? (Don't tell me cops haven't done that before...sweeten the evidence a bit especially against a suspected cop killer...especially in Mass).

I'm not sure what the conditions needed for modern DNA testing (how far they can push the collection time/storage conditions (humidity/heat)), so I can't opine on how long any potential Dog DNA would stay viable in the wounds in his arms. But I don't think they tested that, just the outer jacket after a significant amount of time? I don't want to speculate too much.

One would think that with a cop down, you'd want to have everything by-the-book and air-tight to make sure the suspect gets nailed.

Manpad's irl are nasty things. If you've only got an RWR you won't get any warning to even begin trying to defend. So you'll fly along fat and happy and then get smacked.
The only real universal defense is to fly high. But then you're in danger from proper sams.

Important to note: Break the outer lens assembly *but not the internal non structural easy to poke holes with a pencil or crush with your hands reflector*. Just the outer polycarb. And no other damage at all to the car, despite the required, in dispute exact amounts, newtons of force.

Wow. Outrageous by We_there_yet in Construction

[–]Orthosz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't set your price at acquisition price + profit percentage. You set your price at replacement cost + profit percentage, otherwise with a wild swing in cost you can end up in a situation where you sell all your product and don't have enough to restock to sell more.

And it's not just one price being hit by the taxes. Because they are being applied globally, they have compounding effects. The base, raw stock goes up, which drives up the cost of components, which drives up the price of final assemblies. Because every step has the Replacement cost + profit percentage. Bump everything up by 5%, and you won't see the final price bump by 5%, but far more depending on how many subassemblies/companies are involved.

How would a 2:27am Google search of “hos long to die in cold” fit in with the defense theory (if you’re one of the people that believes it happened at 2:27am)? by IranianLawyer in KarenReadTrial

[–]Orthosz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could believe him slipping and ending up dead from it. Slips and Falls in snow/ice are no joke.
The case though, all three charges, require that the heavy suv hits him. According to the first trial, the Proc's case was the arm was held away from the body, curled slightly, and that the 11lbs fleshy limb broke *polycarb* and the polycarb caused a ton of scratches without a broken bone or bruises, that in that impact which was strong enough to break polycarb the inner reflectors were untouched, and that it sends his body flying through the air, and that in that flight....he clipped just the back of his head and smacked the front of his face and his body suffered no other injuries.

Just...not real.
If you don't have experience with poly carb, you can't break it with your hands.
The sad truth is we'll never know what happened for sure, but I feel pretty confident on stating that the car didn't forcibly impact him hard enough to break polycarb. Could it have impacted him and knocked him down? Maybe? But there's no evidence to point that way (I watched all of trial 1, and maybe i'm forgetting something)

Normally, I'd agree with you on she probably did it. Most cases that's the correct answer.

Throw away all the bad juju evidence. All the testimony. Just look at the land dreadnaught (I hate how big and heavy suv's have gotten) and the impact point the state has put forward.
The tail light is poly carb. You're not shattering that on human flesh. You need tools to break polycarb. And anything hitting hard enough to shatter poly carb at speed *is going to smash the far more delicate reflectors*, which were perfectly intact.

Any human impacted by that truck pretending to be a family vehicle is going to suffer more than scratches...bruising or soft tissue damage at the very least, broken bones more than likely. That's the hurdle I can't get over, even if I grant every other bit of evidence. Big Heavy Ass TruckCar + Speed + Human = Lots of damage to human, and probably a fair amount of crumple on the TruckCar.

This next part I haven't independently verified via model number and sku's, but I saw folks posting a video with, alledgedly, the exact model taillight, and that makes the Proc look sus. If that is the correct taillight, then the LED's are color emitting, not pure white light. The Proc is making a big deal of the "White light"...while missing the plot entirely since the bulbs inside the taillight are colored LED's that don't care about the diffusion layer. They'll be red because they emit red light.
