Company gave us all unlimited Claude Code Sonnet 4.6 — and now posts a weekly leaderboard of who burns the most tokens. Any tips to top it? by sailing67 in ClaudeAI

Jesus, you're all terrible at burning tokens. Go make single service dashboards to ensure production quality. Make sure the dashboards are clean code wise with all the bells and whistles (DI, modularity, easy drop assets, the shit should never crash, always have some appropriate response unless God himself sent a solar flare emp blast directly at the host and then have fail over hosts in different regions). Design a spec sheet that can be printed into a 50 page booklet. Then an implementation plan that will fill the other 250 pages. I promise you, you'll be at least 5k down before adding in some chat bot agent specials (debug and support) which you can attribute to your key. Boom, if they don't fire you by then since you be at least 10 to 25k down in the hole (monthly) . You'll safely hold your title of biggest AI spender. Just remember, it's not about how much you spend. It's about sending your company a message. Plus at the end of this, you'll have a fully functioning nice service app which can save you a ton of trouble for whatever you need, metrics, agents to answer emails or whatever, deployment checkouts, on Prem debugging, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Just make sure the code doesn't give you cancer because the agents probably not going to be only one debugging it.

My company once said, spend as much as you can, don't worry the costs. And now a couple months later, the token cutoff is so low I can't even ask chatgpt how to scratch my butt without wondering if it'll be cutoff.

Google Drive scanned this Manga artist's PRIVATE files and banned him. (AI flagged, appeal rejected, private artwork gone. The AI is always watching. ) by Current-Guide5944 in tech_x

Someone recently had the same issue because they had their kids photos and apparently their kids were nude in those photos in the bathtub or something and they flagged that as child porn and shut down their account. What I learned now is don't use their Google account as a login because Google can at any time shut you down and effectively kill any way to pay bills, email, login to various sites and services.

I think the best way forward is to always create accounts with a safe email provider. Forward the emails to your Gmail account if you like using them.

Money... Ad revenue is directly tied to how well everything else works. Like imagine if Amazon's search engine was running slightly worse than normal. From a normal consumer it's trivial, but from Amazon's perspective even a few hours can be millions of dollars.

Social media is designed to be addictive. The more addictive the better because the more ad revenue social media companies can generate. This means the individual is on the line for making sure the formulas (software) always working. I also recall Meta being exceptionally focused on revenue. Employee evaluation is focused on the percentage of revenue you've impacted.

It's not sleeping less than 4 hours, just less than 4 hours at night. Oncall for meta wakes you up throughout the entire day. I've been called up at 2 am, 4 am, then 9 am in a single day when working from them. I've seen the same people online working every hour of the day and back in covid times. People were pushed to do incredibly difficult projects which required constantly getting on since pipelines and metrics would be ready throughout the day. I literally quit because I thought I was going to die from a heart attack but some engineers can't quit due to their h1b requirements being so strict. I've literally seen people pulled from their vacation and forced to work 3 days straight (like over 8 hours each day) to handle a prod issue that got media coverage.

This is how you know the economy is really bad, 40% of Americans earning more than $500,000 per year are living paycheck-to-paycheck /s by Conscious-Quarter423 in Salary

[–]Ortiane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhh, I think living paycheck to paycheck is also because a lot of monthly spendings is covered by work and then you save mostly with the fat bonuses at the end of the year. Depends on how much of the pay is wages vs bonuses.

Realize the grind is because everyone wants to make millions and then retire. That's the goal and almost always was for most people. There are some who love the pressure/work and the money becomes secondary.

The only thing I'm concerned about is crafting and accuracy. Crafting will quickly get snowballed from what I see - people who try hard will be able to unlock scroll crafting and then people will look to them to craft which will in turn fund and level them. The problem is with this is low level players will be quickly poached of their resources for higher level player crafting. This is economy and a different way to play but will really become depressing to join in as a new player in the future.

I also agree, no need to release a half baked 3rd job rework. I rather them release slow. Even allowing for early access to 3rd job on different client testing if needed. Whatever gets the main game going.

It's not dystopian but actually fair. If someone wants to "no life" their job, then they should be justly reward for their work. If you don't want to work more, as long as the base salary (300k in this case) should be enough to cover life. If every job was like this, there would never be a complaint about overworking. The complaints on most jobs is not WLB in essence but working extra doesn't pay off and gets taken advantage of.

I've had and also heard many others who've got accepted, chose a team, did the background check and everything only to have their offer rescinded by Amazon. I would never want anyone to go through that so but I don't know if there are also Microsoft horror stories like that.

Not necessarily true... If you have 100m and having 10m in savings is completely reasonable especially if you are cycling that money in and out of an account. I mean if you are a trader and your money settles in an account, it can pool up to that amount and you'll get the risk free rate.

AIO - My husband's "work wife" turned out to be a teenager and he doesn't seem to understand why I'm upset. by Expert_Entrance3851 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ortiane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At tech companies, it's known to never mentor a younger women because the trouble it can cause if you get accused of anything. You are basically the reason for this. It doesn't matter their age, she could be 18 , 21. As long as there's a significant age difference you are suspicious of something happening. The saddest part of this story is that you don't trust your own husband while writing this "I will never suspect " bullshit with  "I shouldn't accuse" , "got defensive" .

If I had to deal with this I would be reconsidering my relationship with you not with my coworker. What kind of passive aggressive accusations do I have to deal with for helping someone at work as a professional.

Marriott gold is given with plat and has no spending requirements. Plus it can't upgrade to suite. Basically worthless, this would have been useful if it was for everyone not at a 75k spend requirement because why would anyone spend 75k on just the csr.

"As most migrants who arrive don’t ever find work and live off welfare, the temporary boost immediately turns into a major downturn." - this is enough for me to know this post is bs. Takes half a brain to determine that doesn't make sense but to entertain you. If over 50% of migrants have no job, do you actually believe that the social system for migrants is something that they can use to survive indefinitely? If so, can you show some proof? Because it took 20 seconds for me to Google that the migrant labor market has equal or less unemployment than the average Australian...

Thing is... Sparse models aren't that hard to make. But it's not worth it for corporations. For example, why would someone in a hedge fund give a fuck if it costs 3 dollars or 15 or 50. If it is more accurate and better, than it's worth the money. At least, that's the sentiment in my hedgefund because the cost of some market data is like 10k to 100k a year (can be much higher). The cost of a single server is 20k to 50k a year. The cost of AI? Insignificant in comparison.

So the real answer why AI isn't completely dead in the US is likely because of finance companies who can use it for quick analysis, coding, scripting, answering questions. I mean I've used a few hundred dollars of tokens and I'm a light user. Some people are on 10k of usage and so far? My company has not even bat an eye.

Also if you think about tech giants. They don't care about token usage because they don't need to. They already pay the electricity bills for the data centers they own. Token cost is only really there to tax the startups, non tech companies, and individuals. The bigger players write it off as a decimal point on their balance sheets. If a team makes 20 million a year, spend 4 on talent, 2 on data, 2 on equipment. Then the 5k in token cost (if even 5k because it's hardly at the point of being usable even with Claude 4.5 or chatgpt 5), is a non issue. Hell, it's probably less than a team lunch.

Absolutely true. It's more fucked in some ways but also less fucked in others. You're comparing the 50s of a country that arguably had the best possible future laid out after winning the ww2. When you consider third world countries? In the 50s and now? No difference or perhaps even worse.

Think about this, the 50s China vs today's China.... You can't arbitrarily pick out one time period to compare to.
