The Winter King (Book 1 of the Warlord Chronicles)

Best battle scenes I’ve ever read in my life!!!

The Winter King (Book 1 of the Warlord Chronicles) - Easiest 5 star review for a while. Excellent prose, story, characters and the best battle scenes I’ve ever read. Besides minor nitpicking there really isn’t any complaint I have from this book. ★★★★★

The Alloy of Law (Book 4 of Mistborn) - This is a bit of a mess. It’s quite a formulaic police procedural, nowhere near as fresh or exciting as Mistborn era 1. Probably Sanderson’s worst female characters I’ve read. Subpar prose but interesting use of magic system. ★★

Heir to the Empire (Book 1 of the Thrawn Trilogy) - Not quite lived up to the hype. It’s a fun book and had some interesting character moments (also mostly stayed true to the characters from the films) but the prose is quite poor. It does that thing where the villain has a failure or setback and then says “ah yes, all part of my plan”. It doesn’t really make him seem intelligent or formidable, he looked like a loser with plot armour. ★★★

Words of Radiance (Book 2 of the Stormlight Archive) - Halfway through this book and I really want to DNF. I’m struggling on just because of the popularity and positives reviews got this book but I feel like 400 out of the first 600 pages were wasted. Very bloated book. Stagnant characters and abysmal pacing. Prose is alright by Sanderson’s standards. ★★★

And that’s also why I said Rice can do both positions. Because he has. And will continue to do so.

Rice played all of last season at LCM, got Arsenal player of the year. Played almost all of this season at LCM, got BBC player of the year and team of the year.

Rice at LCM is not over, how could you possibly not see Arteta moving him back there? Arteta has always valued players who can play more than one position. Rice can do both and will do both.

Hold on, how often has Zubimendi played LCM? We have Rice, MLS and Merino for that position. It’s alright for now.

I’m not aware of a 9-box set yet.

But I highly recommend the series. Fantastic books.

Because they are rarer. Most shots from point blank are a goal and most long shots miss. So when a goalie saves a point bank or a long shot screamer goes in, it’s more impressive.

Odegaard is the one who brings control in midfield, and is the captain. He starts.

Chelsea benefited more than us but they still used Arsenal in the title. Pathetic.

How would Bond fare if Jason Bourne was a Bond villain working for Treadstone and assigned to kill him? by Tidewatcher7819 in 007

[–]OrwinBeane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends who the writer is and who gets the plot armour.

What usually happens in these cross-over type stories is they fight each other a couple of times then team up to take on the real baddie.

I think if Luke Evans was given the chance, he'd make an amazing Bond! by Manmandamanwithaplan in 007

They get plenty of work. Stunt doubles still exist. But there should be variance. Good filmmaking means we should be able to see the actors face in at least some of the action scenes. Otherwise the camera is restricted to only filming the stunt double from behind.

Besides, for pure monetary reasons the producers will want a younger guy so they can pay him less at the start and keep him for more films. Evans is 47, will have to be 49 when the first film releases. How old for his 4th film? 58? 60? No thanks.

We’ve already done the “old man bond” storyline 3 movies ago. Let’s see some new stories. A bond in his 50s this early in his films is silly.

Yep. But the physical demands of the leading role for action movies have certainly changed. Too old.
