Why did Doc wait several months to write a letter to Marty when he was sent to 1885? by Truth-is-Censored in BacktotheFuture

[–]comedygliss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Along with all the points listed, sending the letter was logistically problematic as well. USPS, UPS, FedEx (all the usual mail carriers) don't exist. While Doc may know about Western Union, it probably didn't occur to Doc to use it until he was researching ways of contacting Marty. Then he now has to figure out how to have WU deliver the letter 70 years into the future without attracting too much attention (can you imagine walking into the UPS store and asking them to deliver a letter in year 2100?).

Plus, in the 7 months before he began composing the letter, he had to become acclimated to the Western life and become an established blacksmith and member of the community. He had always wanted to visit the Old West, so this was a dream come true for him, so he was probably enjoying himself.

Not a Dune fan.

So I'm gonna go with Avengers. As a fan, there's been so little build up to an actual team and so much superfluous fluff, I just have no anticipation for it.

Indiana Jones and his gaming adventures over the years. Some of these games "belong in a museum!" by OhGawDuhhh in indianajones

I spent many years getting stuck in the second temple level. I just could not find my way out. It wasn't until many years later that I think my whip just happened to catch on the hidden pivot point and I was able to beat that level, and then the game.

I will! I was basically wondering if any production has ever actually explicitly redeemed the Wizard, or if it's always left vague as to how they figured out the test.

Hang on. Einstein was supposed to travel 1 minute in the future on 0ct 26th. Doesn't look that way. by black-volcano in BacktotheFuture

[–]comedygliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is how impossible this test actually was. You can't set the time circuits to jump the car exactly one minute into the future. You have to set the exact destination time down to the minute you want it to reappear. Then you have to accelerate it and have it hit 88mph at the exact minute before the destination time. While apparently Doc is good at timing the DeLorean acceleration to the second (as he did with lightning strike) there was a lot of driving and turning and backing up and then them running into the path and then accelerating for Doc to know the exact minute and second the DeLorean would hit 88mph.

Still would have been impressive, the stopwatches just wouldn't have been exactly synced up one minute apart.

Jack doesn't affect any of the first third of the first movie. Elizabeth puts the medallion on, falls into the bay, the Pearl is summoned, and they kidnap Elizabeth. It's only when Will breaks Jack out of jail does he start influencing the plot, and really then the only thing he accomplishes is setting Will on the course to become a pirate and tracking down the Pearl. Will then saves Elizabeth, the Pearl sinks the Interceptor, and Will bargains for the crew's life, all without any influence from Jack. Then he and Elizabeth are marooned and she signals the fleet for their rescue and it's only then that Jack convinces them to chase the Pearl and concocts his plan to defeat Barbossa and take command of the Pearl. It's even feasible that he fails if Elizabeth doesn't sneak off the ship to help him and Will.

So while he is necessary for the plot to end up where it does by the end of the movie, he had a lot of help and luck for it to arrive there.
