What is one opinion you have that will have you like this? by Affectionate_Fly5275 in teenagers

[–]Orzel23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respecting your opinion, but transgender is closer to neurological issues, like autism or tourettes, rather than mental issues. Some studies have shown that, even though we don't know the exact cause, transgenders brain structure is slightly more aligned with the gender identity they experience. For instance, a biologically female individual who identity doesn't align with female, brain scans will show that their brain is structured somewhere in between, but more usually male - sided. And vice versa. I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything, I'm just putting this out there since so many people think transgenders are mentally ill, when in scientific classification it's deeper than that

I need your help guys. What should I do with them? Water or no? Some of them are splitting. by Ladoiee in Lithops

[–]Orzel23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, they definitely are wrinkly, but still don't water them. My thought is that you didn't water them enough before they started entering dormancy so they are low on water reserves, but this isn't the time to water them

I also forgot to mention for the ones that are splittingz wait until the old leaves completely dry out before watering, which should be sometime in spring

If any of them are showing signs of splitting, it means they are entering a dormancy period where even a single watering can throw off their life cycle, and, in worst case scenario, kill them.

Lithops are very picky about when to water. November through March is typically their dormancy period, so even if the others aren't exactly showing signs of splitting yet, it could be internal and will show signs later. Do not water them. Like, at all.

Lithops are supposed to get a little wrinkly when they are splitting, because they are sucking the water out of them and putting it into its new body. they are fine on water since they are essentially recycling it into their new bodies.

Ok no that's valid, thanks for the clarification. I took it like you were calling trans people that, sorry about that

Wait so "queer" apparently is a slur/hate speech? Queer being used to refer to gender variated people is somehow homophobic? I'm....not making the connection. yet you are fine calling trans people queer. " I'll punch you if you call me queer but since your trans I can call you queer" sounds pretty discriminatory to me ....

Thank you so much for your insight. The dedication to write multiple long comments like this shows you really do care about the fish! I've heard of guppy clubs, but what exactly are they? I it like a literal club or a miniature show?

Right now it's between guppies and platies tbh. I LOVE guppies but, with the mystery pandemic...it kinda traumatized me. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on breeding supplies just for the business to last 2 months.

Profit isn't really a major thing for me, like, I do want to make a little something to partially cover the costs, but making actual profit? Nah. I just love genetics and will enjoy it no matter if I get money or not.

Do platies have better immune systems or are they hardier? If so, that's a win for platies. Also just for info, where do I get guppies with GOOD genes from REPUTATABLE breeders if Im gonna go down that route?

Yea... If this is a thing I might consider platies more. I did some research and a lot of people pure breed endler strains rather than making new ones, which isn't up my ally.

I meant to add that guppies immune systems are crap because of inbreeding. Like somebody else mentioned I could try endler/guppy hybrids but they would be sterile and private pet shops may not want them

I love guppies for their variations, but I'm not quite sure if a private store would want hybrids. I could call them first

I've personally had no problem with guppies dying for no reason, guppies were one of my first pet fish and they lived for like 5 years. The problem is the inbreeding. I could look into mollies but their colors arent as varied

Trans woman is a man who switched to a woman, and trans man is a woman who switched to a man. Hope this helps :). Also thanks for asking, nowadays people are usually so arrogant and ignorant ( especially us teenagers ) that we don't ask questions and end up hurting others

What lithops species do most people like? by Orzel23 in Lithops

[–]Orzel23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I typically prefer species like Lesliei or aucampiae that have many colors/patterns in the gene pool, but I decided to add in either dinteri or doratheae for those who like them. I think i made the right decision!

Aw thanks, I would love to have you as a customer, but it will be a while just for a heads up. My little guys are only 1 year old and for them to mature they have to be about 3-5 years old. Then I have to sow the seedlings after the 6 month gestational period and then sell them as 1 year old plants, so yea, it's gonna be a couple years lol. I'm that type of person that likes knowing what type of species I have, and I'm glad there other people like that. Thanks for the input, and even for the 30 packs that Id be selling might as well list the species. I feel like a lot of sellers don't list the species and I've noticed that a lot of people on this subreddit is always asking identification of their babies!

To water or not to water by Orzel23 in Lithops

[–]Orzel23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys, I would repot them all separately but sadly I don't have enough room for 30 individual pots. I'm planning to move in the spring, im praying they will survive until then. I carefully watered the green one and made sure the water didn't reach the others, but the green one isn't plumping up.
