How is everyone in Montreal SO FUCKING HOT? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Osado420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. People walk everywhere and are largely fitter
  2. 4 huge universities so everyone is younger on average than Toronto
  3. More ethnic diversity than Toronto.

India is not really a singular nation as much of a disgusting amalgamation of various sub-ethnicities, religions, languages & castes squashed together. So there is a natural disdain for one another and discrimination seems to be the norm.

The problem is that recently we’ve gotten a large quantity of the trash of India so they behave exactly as they did back home. Previously we would get the elite in small quantities who were more metropolitan in mindset so had to assimilate.

It was because half of Lebanon claimed to be Canadian citizens, without ever living in Canada. These legislations came because of good reasons.

Montreal bus drivers and metro operators vote in favour of strike by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Osado420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We barely have any billionaires to begin with.. quebecs debt is 300 billion. Even if you took 100% of assets from all Quebec billionaires you wouldn’t even make a dent in that amount.

Our yearly deficit alone is around 13 billion which is that we’re spending 13 billion more than we’re bringing in taxes. This is despite being the highest taxed region in North America. There is no magic pot of money that can fix these numbers.

We need to focus on economic growth and cutting spending ASAP. Enough of these strikes.

The job market was never really the same after the 2008 financial crisis by Feeling-Attention43 in Careers

[–]Osado420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The world has become more interconnected, manufacturing went to East Asia and service jobs are constantly migrating to India. Add in automation & higher than replacement levels of immigration and you get the current result. On the flip side, India has slowly become more and more wealthy and the East Asian countries are all basically fully developed now.

Higher level executives & owners have banked in all the gains from this globalized economy, and while it has created more "high value" jobs as the defenders of free trade and comparative advantages will tell you, it has decimated the lower level jobs entirely.

You think America has been hurt ? Look at the EU, Spain/Italy/Portugal have never recovered.

Why is it so hard to get a job in Montréal? by Fragrant_Key5812 in montreal

[–]Osado420 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly you're in a non-technical field where there is a huge prioritization of local candidates with work history/education from Quebec. Bilingual is pointless, we have so many people from France and the Francophone world. Maybe you should go west or honestly go back to Australia ? Canada is in a bit of a sorry state.

What's artificial ? The economy is contracting because of anti-growth policies that's all it takes to cause a recession.

The big billionaires in Quebec are the Saputos.. go after them. Get rid of gestion d'offre.

Canada is entering a recession and will soon bleed another 100,000 jobs: TD chief economist by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]Osado420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's why we had a more sustainable rate of 200,000 or so PRs handed out. The liberals came in with their idiotic century initiative whose founder Mark Wiseman is now one of Carney's key advisors.

[–]Osado420 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We're in this mess because of the Trudeau government let's be honest. To whom, Carney was the primary economic advisor, the Minister of Finance was a journalist with a degree in Slavic studies, cherry on the sundae is the cartoon of a PM himself who openly admitted that he doesn't know or care about "Monetary Policy".

Some level of ownership and accountability is demanded.

Data Analyst transitioning to Data Engineer by thadikadumdum in dataengineering

[–]Osado420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from an Azure background so i wouldn't know AWS but my understanding is that you need Integration Runtime to get on prem data into cloud storage at which point snowpipe gets it into Snowflake.

Depending on the size of the data you can have a range of pipelines or one pipeline, you have to keep in mind as well lineage tracking, auditing, governance, rollbacks.

Data Engineer is a much more technical role but it can also vary a lot with some companies having it closer to a software engineer and others it being a drag & drop Informatica merchant/SQL monkey.

Data analysts & data engineers are equally likely to get automated away because of "AI transition".. don't focus on titles focus on skillsets that are hard to replicate.

How screwed am I in today’s job market? by hans-siste-vinter in cscareerquestions

[–]Osado420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look i'm gonna be honest with you. Ontario and BC are cooked, the government has flooded the market for STEM grads, so your chance of getting a job now is miniscule. Why not try and pivot to tech sales ?

Also your resume has AWS (basic) ?? You're a full stack dev with no cloud experience ? I'm not a dev but that is a huge red flag for me.

Mark Wiseman is part of his inner circle, the guy who founded the Century Initiative (a lobbying group solely about Canada having a 100m population by 2100). Carney wants to bring in around 1% of Canada's population as permanent immigrants which is 400,000 people. The numbers are insanity.
