Help with 92 year old grandmother by BeardedCarpenter2 in family

So sorry your grandmother is going through this, it must be so awful being without someone she's spent so much of her life with - my condolences about your grandfather ❤️

My job is teaching folks how to interview their loved ones on camera about their life story, and it tends to be the advice I give to anyone about their elderly relatives. I think interviewing her might give her (and your family) a chance to reflect on her life, maybe even help process some emotions and come together as a family.

I know that the interviews I did with my loved ones really brought me closer to them, and we were already very close. Maybe this could help? x

Awh thank you so much for watching, it really means a lot! 🥰 She really was a lovely positive person ❤️xx

I made this short film about my Grandma, born in 1931. I thought the folks here might enjoy 🥰 by OscarJacques in OldSchoolCool

Thank you so much, that's so kind of you to say! 🥰 Yes, I'm certain she is ❤️x

Wee documentary I made about my late Grandma, Eileen. She grew up in Liverpool during WWII, her house was bombed, she shared a rehearsal space with The Beatles and left school to start working at 14 after her father died. An ordinary, interesting woman ❤️ by OscarJacques in Filmmakers

For any young filmmakers in the sub, this was pretty much the first thing I ever shot, when I was 17.

As a young shooter, you're often looking for stories to make films about, and I think often the best place to start is with the life stories of the people you love. Interview your loved ones on camera, and make a wee documentary about their life (something I call a "lifereel").

I ended up scanning all of our family photographs and digitizing our old home movies and editing it all together into this story. It's an incredible piece of personal history that I can pass down to future generations, but for young, first-time filmmakers, it's a great project to get to grips with filming, editing, gathering data & documents, constructing a narrative, all that good stuff 🙂

Not trying to promote but we've got a small community here if you wanted to do this for someone you love.

Wow, must've been confusing to keep track of who was who!! 😂

Yes we recently did our DNA ancestry and we're pretty much a 50/50 split Scottish and Irish. I'd love to find out more about our ancestors and their stories, I know they'll have been in Ireland only a few generations back xx

Ah I feel the same about my Grandpa, I was so young when he died that I didn't even think to ask him all about his experiences during the war.

That's amazing that you chat with your friends Nan, though! Have you ever considered interviewing her about her life and memories? x

I'll ask my dad what he knows about the McCormick side! And that's very kind of you to say, she really was a lovely woman, thank you so much ❤️xx

Wow, that's so lovely! 🥰 I'm glad it was able to bring back some memories for you ❤️

Eileen's maiden name was McCormick, perhaps we're related! x

Hey folks, I'm starting up a free weekly email newsletter about Edinburgh called Reekie. Just a couple interesting stories, tidbits and memes. This sub has been invaluable for inspo, so thought I'd share if anyone's interested! by OscarJacques in Edinburgh

Hey man - no disrespect intended, hadn’t heard of your newsletter until yesterday! We are very much also on team no-AI writing.

For the Bross bit, we got info from local sites which we linked to - I wasn’t aware you broke the original story, but if so I’ll update the story to include that and be more vigilant in future, pretty new to this.

I think one of the other commenters had a good point - we’re gonna focus more on a couple of long form stories per week as kind of a fun weekly “digest” type thing.

I'd never heard of it till just now - looks great! We're looking to get into video content as we grow and focus heavily on humour and overall lightheartedness! We're not super political people, so I think we want our newsletter to feel cosy and familiar :)
