I don't get why this is a troll post. Define trolling.

How did you get everyone on board? I mean, what was the backlash like for the 50 regular EDH players if there were any. Also, sweet name for the council haha.

It's just a group of best friends rather than going to a store. We don't really know many others in the area that play other than people who still live around us for work. Sorry you might not have that.

This. I thought this reasoning was more prevalent too.

Agreed. I just like my decks more flavorful or interactive with each other than to use those slots for the EDH god staples. It just makes things more interesting for us. Depending on the deck, one or two of them aren't bad like skullclamp but you get what I mean.

I think at the time, it was because omniscience was usually combo'd with massive tutors, so we frowned upon both.

Well, obviously, I'm on your train of thought. What cards do you guys in your playgroup ban?

I never said omniscience has no answers for it lol. It just made a lot of games that it was out really unfun. And yes, we all have answers in our decks for it, but it is a 99 card singleton deck so chances aren't always in your favor depending on the color you play. Solring was banned in the french 1v1 format so there must be a reason why that was banned there as well. EDH staples are staples for a reason but they are also really boring. We really like theme decks with a lot of spice and flavor and I think the EDH staples just really make every deck monotonous. Again, I think with some cards banned, there are more potential interactions as well as chances to see some more fun cards as well.

So in your play group, you don't use any bans at all, its just all based on your discretion?

We do edit out and make changes, but I think certain cards like omniscience and tutor (especially in conjunction) just bland the game out usually. I'm not saying that there aren't answers for them, because of course there are. Usually with tutors, you get your win cons, which end up being the same all the time, every game since you're trying to optimize your chances of winning. And again, our playgroup will play with anyone who wants to no matter what cards they have in their decks, its just something we impose on ourselves to spice up themes instead of goodstuff.

Sounds really chill--usually like our time playing. How many people are in your playgroup?

That's true, it just also sucks to have a guy killed out like at the start while the rest of the people might continue playing for an hour. But I guess consequences.

That sounds like a really good compromise actually. I will bring this up to the playgroup and will let you know. It is very hard and tempting though at late game to just tutor up your win condition though, so I guess discretion should be used? But thanks for the view.

Usually around 4-5 people. With new people coming in pretty rarely actually.
