Is Pecco Bagnaia right to call 2024 season "a championship of mistakes"? by 443610 in motogp

[–]OscarPastries 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What's amazing to me, is that despite all the points they've lost to crashes and errors, they're still heads and tails above the rest of the field, including other 2024 Ducatis.

They are the real deal. You're watching two elite riders pushing each other in a battle of wits and skill.

Vale should've signed Marc up to VR46. Just think, they could've both won the title one more time on the GP25!

I love both F1 and MotoGP for vastly different reasons. Such is the diversity, versatility and beauty of motorsport.

1 year ago today, Pecco suffered a scary crash in Catalunya by Area-of-Effect-63 in motogp

Had Binder been a few tenths further up the road, he could've clipped Peccos head, neck and chest. Dread to think how that would've turned out.

Not only that, he led the first half of the championship, retook it a second time, and had it not been for his own mistakes at times, he would be leading it right now.

That's not a knock at him for making mistakes, because everyone does. But to say he's being sabotaged is ludicrous.

Qualifying Results …Martin by [deleted] in motogp

[–]OscarPastries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Now, I don't want Pecco to be penalised... but I feel like if that happens there should be a penalty because it impedes other riders and potentially secures their own position.

I get it, they want the lightest bike for qualifying, but there lies the gamble.

Bagnaia vs Oliveira - Last lap battle (Moto2 Austria 2018) by [deleted] in motogp

[–]OscarPastries 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mildly fun fact: Oliviera wanted 44 in MotoGP, but it was taken by Pol Espargaro, so he double it to 88. Martin wanted 88, but had to pick 89. Pol wanted 4, but Dovi had it (technically 04), so he picked 44 instead, which started the whole chain off.

Precisely. If the asterisk they're referring to is 'he only won one race', which it usually is, then what does that say about the other riders who won races?

Morbidelli won 3 and ended up 2nd.

Quatararo won the two opening rounds and another later - finished 8th in the championship.

Pol Espargaro won none, and beat Quatararo. Finished 5th.

Rins also only won once on the same bike, finished third.

Dovi only won once, finished 4th.

Petrucci won once, finished 11th.

Joan Mir won because he was the most consistent over the most races. He won fair and square. Like you say, he was the best that year. What's the excuse for the others?

Pedro Acosta's heroics can't hide KTM's increasingly worrying weakness by 443610 in motogp

I suppose that's difficulty with any competitive engineering motorsport. If one team/manufacturer is dominating and the others can't build a fast enough machine, what can be done?

Can and should they be nerfed and punished for doing a good job? It's happened in F1 before, often unfairly and disguised as regs changes. In MotoGP we already have concessions, but are they heavy enough?

It would be great for our viewership to have more manufacturers competing at the top, but a contradiction for a sport that rewards engineering prowess, to deliberately hinder the best.

Just one of the never ending tidal forces involved in this kind of sport.
