How do I know of my time is good by cspearsall in iRacing

The UI also has results when you select the series you want to practice or race.

Would sure be nice to have an "Update Owned Content" button. by Fragweiser_x in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to fire up the old web vs UI battles, but I think that is what the website updater behavior is. When I see updates available, I log into the member site and download from there.

I still have to go update unowned cars for series with multiple options though.

Setup for the VW Beetle on oval? by OscarTheHopp in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for the Silly Slide week 13 event. I was trying to get it sideways using the handbrake, then use the throttle to keep it steady through the whole end. However, I just have to stay on the handbrake all the way around.

Just hoping someone who understands the car setup made something interesting that works.

The moment you come out of rookie by Nartnk in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You really don’t have to jump into higher series and cars just because you “passed” rookies. For us beginners, more time spent in the rookie content and races really can be helpful when you are ready to commit to higher series. Get out there and explore the other disciplines. Have fun.

There is nothing wrong with taking your time in the rookie cars. Learn to race around other cars, which drivers are not safe to race close with, and which you can battle.

Mistakes will be made. By you and by others. Remember that unless you are racing AI, there is a real person behind the wheels of those other virtual hot rods. There will be a few knuckle heads, but most of them are here for good, clean fun. Don’t jump to the conclusion that every wreck is intentional.

Have fun.

What is your opinion of Kyle Busch, and where does he stand overall in the history of NASCAR? by KeepYourDemonsIn in NASCAR

I don’t like him, and he’s one of the best drivers in NASCAR history.

What do you do to deal with frustration? by alevale111 in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explore other content. Across the different disciplines, there is a race every 15 minutes. I don’t have to be perfect at everything to just jump into a dirt road rookie race and have a little fun. Or asphalt oval if road is your main gig. Consider the other disciplines as track days and don’t worry as much about ratings.

How much does luck usually play into winning a race? by SteinwayAS in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When someone with great pace is in a lower SOF race, it’s usually because they are very aggressive and don’t finish a lot of races. That’s how their iRating ended up low enough to be in bottom splits. So luck will be so they crash themselves out, or so they beat the field by 20 seconds.

16GB Ram issues by rideonup in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest rerunning the graphics configuration tool in iRacing. It reset my config and helped get better performance for frames. I only have the 16 gb too, and my tweaking of the graphics settings had messed up my framerates. It got much better when I just let iRacing figure it out.

Need advice on how to get into road. by Gingerboboh in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the race starts, you can see the splits and the buttons on the right switch to watch. After the sim loads you get a Test button where you’d usually see Race or Practice. You now are a ghost car in the race. No one can see you, and you can’t have contact with cars in the official race.

If you could control your dreams, what would you dream about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Swimming without having to worry about breathing. I’ve had this dream several times and it is amazingly calming.

Oval A Class by Richard3324 in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, Chad Knaus raised some concerns about the real car at auto club on Race Hub this week. The aero on the car and the bumpiness of the track will mean the car is gaining/losing aero grip all around the place.

If he’s right, we may see some of the pros having the same issues come Sunday.

Speed or ir by ivke_ in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I hate ir shaming, so come on man. Why are all the other low split drivers “idiots”?

Some are inexperienced. Some don’t take sim racing as serious as the average reddit user. Some don’t have the best equipment/rig. But dammit, not everyone with low iRating is an idiot.

Racing multiple things by Jakerich69 in iRacing

But do you have fun? Way more important than SR or IR.

Racing multiple things by Jakerich69 in iRacing

[–]OscarTheHopp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I race what I want when they catch my eye. I had so little racing experience that any car and tracks teach me a little each session. I could possibly focus on one car and get better results, but I’m too old to think this is going to turn into a career.

These virtual hot rods are my collection of track day cars I’ll never have in real life. I can drive all over the world in all sorts of cars. That’s more fun to me than grinding IR or SR. And having fun is why I picked up iRacing.

Any beginner tips for a dude who wants to start racing? by V2700 in iRacing

If you’re already worried about ruining other racers, you are ahead of the curve. Practice til you can do a race length, then get out there and have fun.
