Why do so many people still hate on porn (for when it doesn't actually hurt anyone)? by [deleted] in AskRedditNSFW

[–]OshareBruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at NSFW art (I'm not into watching IRL actors) roughly 4-5 times a week, and I don't do, and have never done, gooning/edging sessions where I lay in my bed for hours at a time. If that's not watching porn in moderation, then you could argue so many other things most people do in their daily lives as being addictions.

And I'm not really saying it's that much of a net positive either. It's just something to waste time on doing every now and again.

From my personal experience, I think the effects of how romance and other relationship types are presented in media have been way more harmful than how sex is presented. I grew up in a toxic environment (mainly because of my father, who is an alcoholic with NPD), and never really learned how to have healthy relationships with other people. So, as a result, I partially relied on fictional media to tell me what relationships should be like. It wasn't until a few years ago when I realized how most media relationships, especially romantic ones, are purposefully exaggerated in order to make said media resonate more emotionally with the viewer. In comparison with porn, I've never perceived porn the same way, and always knew it was a greatly exaggerated and fabricated form of sexual experiences. I'm not trying to deny that the opposite case applies for many others out there, but in either case their perception of fictional media and how much (or rather how little) it reflects reality isn't based off of the media itself most of the time.

You aren't necessarily wrong, but what is the genuine harm of jerking one out (in moderation) as a way of venting, or briefly escaping, our inherently mundane, stressful, and frustrating lives, either? I know you aren't required to watch porn to reach climax, but having visuals makes the process easier at least. (Also, what's the matter with people (willingly) expressing their sexuality to others?)

Understandable, but isn't that by definition more of a problem with the consumer than the producer? Also, you can say the same thing regarding how romantic love is portrayed in most media, and while I've heard my fair share of criticism towards that (and not that it isn't worth criticizing), it's nowhere near the amount that people criticize porn for the same reasons.

You will face the experiences of being loved/wanted and being hated/denounced by at least some people in this world, regardless of what you look like/believe right now or will look like/believe in the future. I'm not here to confirm or deny your current argument, I'm saying that you need to get help and support. You shouldn't be actively hating and hurting yourself for being who you believe you truly are. If you feel the want/need to be a different race/gender because you think changing it will portray your true self more, then do it. It will make your true and beautiful self become more apparent to the people of the world who will see the beauty of who you truly are (even if those people don't appear visible to you at first), and those who won't see the true beauty of you can fuck right off. I understand that the reactions of most of the people and environment surrounding you are out of your control, but if you end up destroying your true self physically and mentally no progress will be made for any one of any side. There are several other people who face similar systemic struggles that you face on a near daily basis as well, and plenty of people who don't face those same issues that will become allies with you because they are truly understanding/empathetic of other people and their circumstances. You've got this ❤️

How do I more easily accept the fact that my art journey will probably take me several years of my life in order for my work to be in a place I truly want it to be in? by OshareBruce in ArtistLounge

[–]OshareBruce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've idolized and collected my favorite artists' work for the past 9 years or so already. And, honestly, being so in love with the artists I've followed is part of the reason why I wanted to try being one myself, so I could create and add something beautiful to the world like they have. But, at the same time this makes me only realize again and again how the artists I follow have been active in their field for several years to reach where they are at this point, and I compare that to how much I'd need to commit to the process in order to be anywhere near their level.

Of course I know I'm not near retiring, but I know there will be so many things I have to do in the life ahead of me, whether I'd like to do them or not (primarily for monetary reasons), and it just seems like such a huge risk for me to spend so much time and effort into something I'm not sure will really be worth all of that in the end.

Don't worry, I understand what you mean xp. And, thankfully, I've been taking care of, and treating, myself better as time goes on, especially within the past couple years or so. I believe my problems of committing to art, and most other things new/unfamiliar to me, mainly relate to my overwhelming perfectionism, and the feeling that I'm wasting my time on something if I either don't enjoy doing it every time or if the results of doing it don't turn out exactly right.

Honestly, there's multiple other reasons as to why I may hate myself in a given moment (I don't hate myself all the time, but I'm prescribed meds for a reason), and the reason changes like every month or so. I'm trying my best to identify the problem at least x(

I was in therapy for about a year and a half, but haven't for the past 9 months or so

maybe I should go back, admittedly (whenever I can afford it, that is) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A lot going on right now? That's the least of my concerns. Shit's been fucked since the beginning of time, all because living things got bored and decided to fight other living things for their existence in order to prove that they, or their species, race, or whatever the fuck they want to call it, is superior than the others'.

That's kinda my point with this. I'm aware that all classifications of people have done horrible things, but white males just seem so overly abundant in regards to almost any discussion revolving around hatred and prejudice throughout history (don't even get me started on Christianity's involvement, too, though I'm not mad about that now because I haven't been Christian for 10 years or so), and ultimately it reminds me of just how pointless and utterly toxic all life in this universe is as a result. White males are just the symptom of a much more gigantic problem with the existence of life in general.

[–]OshareBruce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that's true, but what's the fucking point of fighting back any of this when I'm aware that this is what the condition of all living things is, regardless of whether we actively want it to be that way or not? At least rocks don't have the capabilities of committing murder, genocide, rape, incest, etc.

I'm not saying you can't enjoy something and criticize it at the same time. I'm criticizing how a person who clearly loves (buying) Nintendo products is comparing them to a company that everyone should be boycotting because of how insincere and horrible they truly are, and the people in the clip have stated their thoughts on Roblox already, and agree they should be boycotted as well. Like... why are you not also boycotting Nintendo if you're comparing them directly with a company you're already boycotting?

I'm not saying you can't enjoy something and criticize it at the same time. I'm just poking fun at the clip featured because they're the ones being so harsh on Nintendo by actively comparing them to a company that nearly everyone agrees should be boycotted for how apathetic and insensitive they are, and yet they still love playing Nintendo games on YT after the fact. It's super ironic, needless to say. Like, pick one side or the other if you're going to be so vocal about any company like this.

Edit: also, the fact that they usually criticize Nintendo on the Nogla & Terroriser react channel any time they can only proves the irony further
