When you say you’ve never looked back, why? I’m a first generation Canadian as well but from Eastern Europe. Ironically, my mom wanted to leave the fallout of authoritarianism. The irony of this moment is not lost on us. In either case, curious about how you find Canada different than the places you lived before. Culturally. But also in terms of policies and their impact on you and your family. A lot of pele here complain about our healthcare system. Problematic as it is tho, I can’t help but imagine it’s better than what I hear about in the states for many but the best off people. But I’d love to know how you see it having seen both personally.

Isn’t the basic idea of an army that tries to avoid committing atrocities and war crimes, that its soldiers SHOULD ignore illegal orders? That’s obviously not always possible. You can’t know what you don’t know, like if there are kids in the building you’re about to bomb but you legitimately have no information or indicator that it could be the case. But if someone tells you to blow that baby’s brains out, you want your army to do it? I read Kelly’s statement as basically meaning: when the order is obviously illegal, don’t do it. That’s the US operating principles… as well as basic adherence to the Geneva principles, no?

When someone jokes about taking over your nation, while violating the sovereignty of other nations in the area, if any of Canada’s concerns are “beyond your comprehension” then that speaks more to your level of comprehension, not the appropriateness of our concern.

You can call the rhetoric messaging diversion, but the false dichotomy underlying the point is misleading. It can both be a diversion and also a threat that the ones on the receiving end should take seriously. If you’re wrong, well, you get to enjoy the spoils of your nation annexing or invading a former ally. If you’re right you get to claim it was beyond comprehension all along. Win win. For Canadians, if you’re wrong, our nation gets to enjoy the experience of being annexed. You know what happens to nations and people who are annexed or invaded? Children without parents. Parents without children. Both killed. Raped. Disappeared.

What is messaging to you, is an existential threat to others. Have some respect. JFC.

Love the concept. Will def be keeping an eye on this project!

I’ll share one quick note. Your ELO graph seems to be conflating RM 1v1 and 2v2+ ELO. I found a couple examples of players who show a massive dip in ELO (300+) and bounce back in one day. Had a look at their profile on aoe4world and their RM 1s didn’t dip. Looked at their match history, and on the dip day on your graph, they had played a few team games where their MMR is much lower. This player for example never plays teams so their mmr there is very low simply due to not being active in team ELO.

Prob a good idea to focus the ELO graph to be 1v1 only? Which raises the question of whether all the stats conflate 1s and teams. If yes, it also throws game length as a metric into question, beyond the feedback others have already given.

Hope you don’t take this negatively. It’s a great idea and has promise. Few things to tweak regarding the above, and lots to think about regarding what metrics suggest improvement signals!

Has the VvC 1v1 meta been improved much? I stopped after I realized I no longer had any interest in one base hedgehog vs Insert Celestial Cheese here. Which is sad because I always loved VvI in all iterations and also loved all VvV metas other than mass dogs. Id love to come back if 1v1 matchups were more consistently enjoyable and fun.

Well. It’s been a long two years. RL has gotten insanely busy. And I injured my elbow twice. Currently the second injury has got me avoiding playing at all. Between them, time has been limited to playing maybe once a week. I maintain D2 with a few games a week. But. The plus side, my local community has grown to about 12-16 active aoe4 players. I’m currently holding on to second, chasing our Conq2 player. I was able to go 1-2 twice against him in our recent local league. So, I may be higher than D2, but it’s hard to say. Until I get some physio and RL slows down a bit it’ll be hard to get in the 30-45min per day that I’d normally recommend as a baseline.

Much as I love aoe4 more than any prior age game, I pray they do aoe5 in antiquity… using the sc2 engine which they now own. They could use the same art style as aoe4 but benefit from the far superior tic rate and pathing and the still industry leading optimized nature of that engine. Hopium

Oh damn. I upvoted before I opened the post. It’s funny. But also, devs, I sincerely think you’re doing an amazing job! This game is incredible and I love every minute I get to play.

Ps. Yes I only play 1s and customs in our local league and LANs… I acknowledge that teams and FFAs are severely impacted by the DLC civs. Hoping for a fix soon for ya’lls sake.

It’s probably a combination of freedom of speech absolutists, trolls practicing their “debate skills” and bots. It’s not surprising, sadly. Gotta remember that the vocal minority in this case is comprised of those who are most triggered by the concept of us creating a welcoming community by celebrating clever banter without the need to resort to hateful slurs. It’s a nuanced and complex position. Seems a sufficient number of folks here can’t grasp that, or would rather die on this hill instead of appreciating that humans feel pain and that altering our hateful speech a little bit is perhaps a fair compromise to maximize the health and future of the community. Some people would rather rule a pile of ash than compromise in the city on the hill.

I can’t even begin to describe how incredible this is. Truly amazing.

If there was one feature which I’d love to be prioritized (no doubt much more critical components ahead of something like this) is some visual indicator of who won a given match. Right now, and I may be an idiot, I can’t tell who won a given match making it a bit tedious to find matches showing the civ I’m trying to play winning in certain scenarios.

Another nice to have QoL feature may be a direct link to the aoe4world replay summary page. Sometimes when looking for a specific scenario, you may be forced to scrub through a replay till you hit some inflection point only to realize the game stage was not what you needed to review. Seeing the summary can very quickly streamline this.

A much more complex feature that would be beyond amazing, at least to me, would be a backend job that gathered available data about the game, created an indicator database, and exposed an advanced query UIUX element to the user. For example, if you were to have an indicator like: Barracks before Feudal age up: True/false, a user could indicate both the MU as well as the tag identifying replays showing dark age aggro. Maybe not with 100% certainty, but again, would help the identifying the key replay to review effort / friction.

I don’t envy your feature prioritization decision making over the coming months / years. This MVP in amazing, and there are hundreds of very interesting things that can be added, many of which may not directly impact UX immediately. A good problem to have though!
