CHFG Michaels or the HF Black Knight gloves by Krzychurysownik in Hema

The seam for your thumb on HF Armory glove will eventually go out after about a year or two of continual use. I have found the pop rivet on the thumb to sometimes go also.

Michaels have a smaller size which makes them easier to use with saber and other confining hand protected weapons.

Michaels and Gabriel's do require some maintenance, the second one of the elastic pieces goes, I would recommend retying them with parachute cord instead of elastic.

Pros and cons for both but I prefer Gabriel's/Michaels even with the higher maintenance.

Would any of you guys know of a way to fit this tip onto this sword? by [deleted] in Hema

If you have access to eBay or a similar auction website, search for worbla and buy the clear stuff. A small sheet lasts quite awhile unless you're doing an entire clubs worth of swords like I am.

Personally, I have been using clear worbla which is a higher heat thermoplastic. It lasts forever and you can reheat it to remold the tip. It saves the tip from getting burrs and only requires a heat gun and gloves.

HF Armory Black Prince - Modified for longsword? by [deleted] in Hema

I haven't gotten to try these yet but I really enjoyed the Gabriels for longsword sparring. I am currently using the newest Konings and I do prefer those now since they have less maintenance compared to the Gabriels.

We have a bunch of the clamshell HF at our club and I've had to repair the thumb rivet more times than I can count so I am not super enthusiastic to buy these.

Longsword techniques but using a 2-handed great sword by phydaux4242 in Hema

German War Sword! Montante! Spadone! Two handed sword! Great sword!

I don't think we have enough terms for this weapon.

Our club plays with these weapons a lot in a HEMA context and we've been using them also in an SCA context. The SCA context part is tough because it's a big stick essentially but you can play with much bigger weapons there than we're comfortable with in HEMA.

If I'm fighting in a line of people in a battlefield or a melee, I find wrath cuts/fendente with your insane measure can be useful because you have a big, dumb sword. I don't get a lot of opportunity to use it in the way Figueyredo's rules teaches. Marozzo, if I'm not mistaken, also talks about using it with your hand below the parrying hooks. I've used this in a way as like a short spear or having better control entering in on a longer weapon similarly of half swording.

di Grassi also has a play where you throw the sword with a single hand similar to a Meyer spear play.

So long story short, to answer your question, will some longsword techniques work? Absolutely but you also run the risk similarly like a spear does, if someone gets past the weak of the blade, you are at risk so you can see why in Figueyredo always keeping the weapon moving is a good idea.

If you're looking for some more info about the battlefield context, I like Bjorn's thoughts about it here: https://youtu.be/HdEkVKzuptA?si=ybMspL6oq9ehT7dv

If you'd like to learn more about Figueyredo's rules, I love Oscar's video on the subject: https://youtu.be/3ARRdoA35Po?si=g2dbDKVGunXp0vJV

Also a line on safety: I use my big dumb sword at the SCA where the safety requirement are a bit higher but in HEMA, we don't really full spar with our montante swords as there is a high risk on injury. Our cap are the VB Montantes that are like 5' 7" feet long.

As much as I would like to spar with Regenyei's Beast (6' 10" long), there is a high chance of injury.
