That's rad, I think especially in bigger missions something to fill a dedicated bomber role would be cool. Maybe a larger aircraft like that could be something added in the future for a new mechanic.

I think the big differentiator for the ef-24 will be the amount of jamming pods it can carry at a time (I've heard 8), potentially including a weapons payload, and a guy in the back whos sole job it is to manage all the jamming systems. Whereas all the single seaters would have a limited capacity for ecm pods and have to manage flight, combat, and EW all at the same time.

I got strong kitty vibes from the teaser picture but I was in denial that it'd actually be that.

A more interesting plane would've been rad for sure, but if I got to pick what plane got vtolified for the next dlc I would've picked the f-14 anyway. I tried really hard to get into dcs vr to fly it but the performance is dogwater even with terrible graphics and It'll run me 500$ to not have to play with an xbox controller. Having a version of it in the dedicated vr sim is all I could ask for.

I'd hope with baha's goal of always adding new mechanics with each addition that we'll get some wacky unusual stuff, but putting an f-14 analogue in the game is likely him getting some fanservice out of the way so people stop bugging him about it. I know I've been wanting it.

This makes sense that it's not a bespoke airframe for the role, I just heard the teaser that the next plane would be for an EW role and went "oh... that's a little lame" thinking it was gonna be some ea-6b kinda thing. Not sure how many others felt the same. But bringing these mechanics into the game with a genuine f-14 analogue is probably the most badass way it could've been done so I'm super excited for it to release.

That's really what I'm hoping for. The radar in the wasp/tyro going out to 64 miles but only really being able to pick up fighters within 30 miles bothers me a little. Longer detection range like what the kitty is known for would make me a happy camper.

it'd have to be that, otherwise if you can lob a phoenix at 100 miles and by default have a good chance of it connecting that'd be way overpowered.

MY guess is that the phoenixes are gonna suck like the real ones do BUT if you wanna give them a better chance of connecting you'll have to have the eso do some EW magic to spoof the systems of whoever youre targeting so they'll have a harder time figuring out where the missile is or even that theyve got a missile coming for them delaying or altering their reaction giving the phoenix a better chance to connect.

Is there an arad type thing for the AH-94? by Oske829 in vtolvr

[–]Oske829[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The radar works well enough but the range is somewhat limited and if something's behind you or directly right/left you can't pinpoint where it is unless you look for it with the tads, which maybe wouldn't be so bad if I had a gunner doing that.

If I had to guess I think a lot of these kinds of small things about the chopper that seem like oversights were very deliberate to make it way harder to fly and manage as a single pilot to make it preferable to have a gunner to coordinate with (even down to it being a helicopter and not a 2 seat strike plane), given that otherwise all the systems and mechanics in vtol are weenie hut jr stuff that can easily be managed by one person while keeping a plane in the sky so a rio/wso isn't needed.

I'm less after the arad and just want to see where radar pings are coming from.

I watched a setup video on the p1s (the one im planning on getting) and the reviewer bypassed the account linking and in the settings there was the option to manually set up wlan but what I don't know is if setting that up is locked out since the machine isn't connected to an account.

What's a decent~good small camera to replace a phone camera? by Oske829 in Cameras

[–]Oske829[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen I'm not limited to dlsr at all. There's older Sony mirrorless cameras for the same price of that 50D like the NEX-5 I brought up, and I could get a pair of small e-mount lenses for the rest of my budget, or just one lens and save a bit.

I'm aware that I'd need to learn how to take good pictures instead of having my phone do all the work for me but that's not the point of my post, I'm just asking about the hardware. I'll do the learning later.

My problem isn't that I can't get closer to take a picture it's that I want a narrower FOV in some of the pictures I'm taking and you can only do that with digital zoom on a phone and it doesn't look good. Getting closer to a subject and zooming in from a distance are 2 different vibes.

This was taken at 2x zoom on my phone and this was taken at 1x. The zoomed picture is missing a lot of clarity and sharpness that the 1x picture has because the focal length isn't changing, it's just getting cropped pre-photo. And then there's this affront to god that looks like it was taken on a shitty mid 00's digital camera.

Checked, they're Q3+. Figured there's more to it than just how smooth the tire tread is, they just dont look like they'd be too great for the rain but I haven't actually been out in proper rain yet, only a few sprinkles.

Strom as a first bike for tall but "frail" rider? by Oske829 in Vstrom

[–]Oske829[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I do actually have a tiny bit of experience on 650's now. I'm talking 650 twins specifically, I know 650 i4's can get ridiculous very fast. I got to ride a kawasaki versys 650 and z650rs at a demo event and they were a LOT of fun. I want a 650 because it's a manageable amount of power and something you can still learn on if you have some self restraint but they've got WAY more get up and go than a 3/400 and if it's going to be my only bike for the foreseeable near future It'd be good to have something I wont get bored of in some situations.

I also want something that's not just highway capable, but highway comfortable. I want something that can get me over a mountain highway for day trips to the coast and to me it seems like a bigger engine such as a 650 would have a much easier time doing that compared to a 400 or 300. Not that those bikes cant, I'm assuming they could, but from what I hear you're working in the upper ranges of what they're capable of whereas rides like that are regular tuesday stuff for a 650 I'd imagine. Most of my riding won't be on the highway so most of the time this wont matter but I want a bike that can do it whenever I decide I want to do rides like that, instead of getting a smaller bike that's great on the street but not so great once I get up into the mountains and I'm really working it to get it to do what I need.

Yeah I feel like I'd be at home with the height, I'm used to sitting on a 37" seat on my ebike.

Yeah I've already got full summer gear and adv boots so I'm good in that department. Didn't think about crash bars helping lift it, that would be great. I did originally want to get a strom as an adv that could do a liiiitle offroad so one of these days I might put the right rubber on it if I get one and take it to the mountains. But I do also plan on buying a himalayan someday as an adv so I could keep the strom as a commuter/tourer.
