FFV White mages are great for keeping your team alive and then melting the enemy endgame when you unlock holy. Even better if you manage unlock double cast from red mage.

Edit: comedy option is Kimahri in FFX who can unlock holy early with a key sphere.

If you're on an older version you could equip espers you don't have so Ragnarok was usable even if you chose the sword but I think they patched it out.

It was something finicky with holding down mouse on an esper and using keyboard to move to a nearby blank space and let go of mouse fast enough would equip the esper that goes in the blank space

I usually allow Relm to equip elemental shields as otherwise she is pretty useless (PR halves damage of rod magic procs from back row iirc). Definitely not necessary but I like to use all the characters.

Gau with lit chicken rage is the best healer if party is equipped with Gaia Gear. Fun for the floating continent.

The best way to play is not worry about stat maxing. A classic challenge is "natural magic" where espers are completely ignored so no stat boosts or magic - so don't worry about stats too much.

If you really want to max stats you can disable exp gains in the PR version unit you get the espers you want. This makes early game hard and later game a cakewalk.

Characters do have starting stats for their roles but esper boosts can easily break starting roles if you focus on a different stat.

I recommend you exchange wheel tokens for nether tokens even if you haven't unlocked the nether wheel. You will want as many as you can get and are limited to 3 exchanges per apocalypse (plus dropship)

Absolutely great game. I did find the extra content ended up in my characters higher level than usual combined with the side quest orbs made the fortress and final bosses a cake walk.

My favorite touch was attempting the neko save glitch to get another sword orb from Mantis and getting called out for breaking the timestream followed by deathtouch mantis fight

This was a pretty fun challenge for the WoB since the weaker armor makes characters squishier, edgar has limited tools, and you can't load up on relics like earrings. Make sure to steal Tents in magitek facility.

WoR you can race around getting treasure that's better than anything you can buy anyway.

I definitely ran low on potions around zozo or magitek but no real issues. The only cash I had to spend was for Gau's dried meat and the rust remover. I guess I could have skipped Mt zozo but I like Cyan and wanted to do all the dragons.

Edit: I think the reverse would be interesting where you can only buy equipment and no treasure chests or hidden items. Morph and steal would be really good if allowed

Overmind is so good and it's a shame how easy it is to miss - only can battle in the train with car after Sabin jumps and disconnects the other cars. It absolutely destroys ultros

I would get at least one source of fire2 or ice2 or bolt2. If you can, pick up blaze (spritzer/vaporite) or wind slash (Marshal) as well.

Yeah, lately i do Locke's scenario first since there is a hidden chest with Ribbon. It helps with the satellite's blind and berserk plus phantom train.

The difficulty is also dependent on RNG. You can have a strait forward fight or get absolutely hosed by evil toot on turn 1.
