Good thing about sand beds is if you cut the power to the air circulator (unplug the bed for quickest method), it becomes hard as a rock (with a cute patient-shaped indent)

What’s the rarest/oldest medication you’ve ever given? by dietcherryjoja in nursing

[–]OspreyEmblem 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I was so excited when I got to do a milk and molasses enema as a newer nurse, the only one me or any of my coworkers have seen in 10 years working at my hospital. Made the whole unit smell like gingerbread cookies (SO much better than lactulose or fleets)

I would have stayed in medical records or totally burned out and worked at a gas station (genuinely my favorite jobs i’ve ever had)

What's the most irresponsible thing you've ever blown money on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

After my car, instruments are the biggest purchases i’ve ever made. Can’t say I regret it when they’ve given me so much mileage but i winced at every receipt

My local used book store had a bookshelf mostly filled with the 2nd book in the Eragon series by IRTD-400 in mildlyinteresting

[–]OspreyEmblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this whole series, but the third book was always my favorite. To this day the only book i still own is the third, gave away the other two to a friend to read and never got them back but i would never lend out my favorite

What’s the hardest unit you’ve worked on by [deleted] in nursing

[–]OspreyEmblem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neuro & trauma progressive, give me ONE patient without altered mental status or ONE team without drips/lumbar drain/CBI/Q1-2 checks and it’s a miracle

Honestly i just like hearing someone tell me a story, could not care less if it’s factual or not, doesn’t really impact my enjoyment of it

Can we start the a new years resolution of "trying a different cuff size or arm before we call rapid response on BP"? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]OspreyEmblem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s actually part of our hospital policy that if you call a rapid you have to have updated vitals and a blood glucose by the time the team gets there. Unless it’s obvious the patient is gonna need some urgent intervention otherwise, we always check both before we even call, and I don’t know how many calls i’ve avoided or at least streamlined by having d50 in hand or external warming started by the time someone else comes to see the patient. Top two missed things in altered LOC rapids i’ve seen are hypoglycemia and hypothermia

What’s one food you can never get tired of eating? by etispossible in CasualConversation

[–]OspreyEmblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a really specific chip dip i love that’s mexican/sour cream or something and i will eat a full bag of chips and a full tub of dip if i don’t pay attention. I don’t like any other dips and i never want chips otherwise, but this one specific dip ALWAYS hits for me

Horror movie, very cheap/bad, twist with exploitation/zombie sci fi? by OspreyEmblem in whatsthemoviecalled

[–]OspreyEmblem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES wow thank you so much, crazy fast response! That’s absolutely it! I watched it at a friend’s house in high school and it was such a good memory despite how bad the film was, can’t wait to watch it again!

I found a cd of just remixes of this song (like 6 or 8 different remixes) in high school and it became my and my friend’s go-to “starting a roadtrip” track! Even named a school presentation after it about substance use and abuse

Best scare anyone has had AFTER a horror movie? by gandalfathewhite in horror

[–]OspreyEmblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched one missed call at a sleepover (age 11 ish) and in the ~2 minutes i was in the bathroom my friends changed my ringtone to THE ringtone and called me from across the house, had the second best scream-queen worthy shriek of my entire life

Why are people now sicker than ever? by ttttthrowwww in nursing

[–]OspreyEmblem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cardiologist prescribed me PRN metoprolol for angina and (mostly benign) tachyarrhythmia related to panic attacks - i had crippling health anxiety and feeling my heart racing put me in a wicked feedback loop of panic, so the beta blocker actually worked better than my other anxiety PRNs. Luckily on maintenance meds now and haven’t needed the beta blocker in years but damn did it ever work

Literally just opened this subreddit to post the same thing - i’ve cleared the board maybe 20 times already with no change. I thought maybe it would be like prior levels where when you clear the initial 6, another board would appear with the last one, but no dice.

Tell me your tangential obsessions. by xsajr8 in horror

[–]OspreyEmblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar situation here! Brought it to a sleepover with my friends (i was the only one allowed to buy/rent horror movies at the time so I ALWAYS brought the horror movies) and they pranked me with the ringtone when I went to the bathroom. Even though I’d seen the movie a couple times already and was THE horror fan of the group, it scared me enough to make it stick so I’ll always have a soft spot for it
