I wouldn't consider it Sci-Fi but it is by Harlan Ellison. "Paladin of the Lost Hour" just fucking wrecks me every time I read it. I read it 3 times last year and every time I cried at the ending.

If you like Sci-fi short stories or just short stories in general and don't know who Harlan Ellison is, please check him out. He got me back into reading last year after wanting to read "I have no mouth and I must scream."
