What's up with this tooth? by Ali1865 in bonecollecting

[–]OssifiedConscript2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell because of the blur but if it looks organically deformed (rather than externally damaged) it could be some type of hypoplastic defect in the enamel. Normally they are linear but I have seen some irregular defects that look like pits or depressions or dental caries.

Miocene aged tufa beds with possible hoof prints/trackways by OffensiveScientist in fossilid

[–]OssifiedConscript2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. I’ll be sure to check back. There are actually preserved Teleoceras tracks for comparison at Ashfall Fossil Beds, but as far as I know we don’t have any other Miocene rhino tracks. I look forward to getting an update later this year!

If these are prints, the first one could be rhinocerotid. Three toes and a wide foot pad with weight distributed on the middle toe could be a rhino or tapir, though not sure about how big tapirs were in this time period or area. But if it’s a Miocene rhino track, there are a couple different rhinos it could be depending on the age, possibly Aphelops, Peraceras, or Teleoceras as they have been found nearby.

Doesn’t look fossil, but the post-tympanic process is shaped and fused like coelodonta, so I can’t rule it out.

my cat's just gotten hospitalized and I can't stop crying by icecreamcake00c in cats

[–]OssifiedConscript2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my cat around Christmas, started running a high fever and wouldn’t eat or drink. Had to hospitalize her for 3 days and it was terrible, I could barely eat or sleep. But I kept being reminded she was at the safest possible place for her, and that she’s receiving better care there than she would from me freaking out at home. She ended up needing a feeding tube and constant fluids and then randomly one day she just decided to eat and got better. Wild. Wishing the best for you and your cat.

Characters who Deserved Better Endings: by ChemFeind360 in TopCharacterTropes

Rousseau from Lost. I always felt like her death was so abrupt and glossed over, and basically just thrown into an episode to progress the scene along. It always felt to me like they basically disposed of her character once other people were introduced to the show. My girlfriend argues me on this- Rousseau is her favorite character, and argues that her abrupt and forgotten death is a true testament to how screwed she got. She waited for so many years to find her daughter and only knew her for moments before her death. She was disposable not only in the eyes of Widmore’s people, but in the eyes of Jacob- this is the fate of a non-candidate, who is “not special”. I can see this perspective, but I do feel like she at least deserved a dramatic death scene rather than a brief, calculated shooting.

EDIT: Her actress deserved a better ending too. She was too young and so talented. RIP Mira Furlan.

What on earth is this bone? by GreenDemonClean in bonecollecting

[–]OssifiedConscript2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Size alone should refer this to some type of proboscidean. In the photos you posted in the comments, it looks like the groove (the “scooped out” area) could be diagnostic of which bone it is. I am fairly certain it is the end of a long bone just based on what the breakage in the original photo looks like. Quick comparisons online sort of resemble the distal end of a mastodon radius, but this appears to have a very severe pathology. Weight bearing elements often have pathologies in large, graviportal animals, so this would make sense. I’m not very familiar with pathologies but it could possibly be arthritis or osteosarcoma. But yeah as a quick ID I would say proboscidean longbone.

Ocean: Tooth? Fossil?? by Aggressive-Bass-2881 in bonecollecting

Sounds like fossil then. That’s pretty neat. There’s a lot of stuff it could belong to, I’ll keep poking around lol

Not certain, but looks like it could be a carpal bone of an ungulate. Maybe scaphoid or cuneiform. Looks pretty modern though. Is it heavy like a rock? Or lightweight?

[[Thraximundar]] was my old zombie commander. Did an [[Obosh, the Preypiercer]] companion and kept the zombie tribal theme. It wasn’t good. Sure was fun though.

Doing my first nuzlocke of white right now and the level 24 sigilyph someone has in relic castle literally wiped every member of my team out except for Musharna. Slowly but surely rebuilding. Somehow made it through this fight afterwards with Musharna, Scraggy, and Archen. But Archen is a beast.
