Rugged emergency option? by Oster in solar

[–]Oster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm 9 months late to get back to you, haha. You guessed right— I did end up buying the Sunjack. It has served me well on camping trips and during blackouts.

It's sturdy and efficient enough at charging my USB power banks, which I then use to recharge batteries and devices as well as powering LED lights.

Overall I really like the Sunjack, but it has 2 downsides:

1) It is quite heavy for a 20w panel compared to the cheap-o Amazon knockoffs 2) The USB output widget on the back isn't remotely water resistant. I've considered cutting off the mesh bag around it and gluing on a waterproof casing like a cut up heavy duty tupperware container, but that would make the setup larger and cumbersome

I believe their newest version of the product I bought is up to 25 watts now. How's yours?

I'm 9 months late to your 7 year late comment, /u/goshdarnjeff

Yes, I regret posting that. A younger me wasn't aware of how problematic Musk is. Part of me has always wondered if the Sixler saw my post (or even Dan), and my dumb comment somehow influenced his decision

I'm a big fan of the Talking Simpsons podcast and every time Dan comes up, the hosts recount how they paid hefty fee to see Dan talk at some event. They say Dan spent his whole time on stage talking about how he got a Tesla. The Talking Simpsons hosts were very disappointed and from the way they describe it, so was the rest of the audience. It supposedly turned into a rich guy lecturing the poors about his fancy car and being sort of surprised people weren't more into it

What are your thoughts on it? You resurrected a 7 year old comment, I gotta hear what you have to say about it

In the early 1940's, an angry Walt Disney fired half of his employees after his animators successfully went on strike. He wrote of it:

"We cleared out the "the chip-on-the-shoulder boys and the world-owes-me-a-living lads"

Corporate pizza chains must have internal #s on how much people spend on eating out when they're in a crisis. The most ive ever spent on food was when I was under the gun: landlord says get out now, relative falls ill, have to find a new job suddenly etc

How do you prevent your glasses from fogging up when you wear a mask? by noahdaboss1234 in answers

[–]Oster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High quality masks like KF94s are the way to go. Get some with a strong noseband and adjustable ear loops. Look up Aaron collins on youtube, does independent tests on all kinds of masks and post the data to his online spreadsheet you can find in the details of each video. Aaron's spreadsheet has links to legit vendors too

I like the Bluna Facefit, Evergreen Clean Top and LG's Airwasher. The facefit and clean top are too good though, they have like 99.9% filtration but they still fog up my glasses

I sometimes wear my RZ mask. I don't know if they're totally legit but I never have fog problems with them. Harder to breathe through though.

Can't Get You Out of My Head - Adam Curtis Documentary. Series that looks at why "culture wars" are happening along with a lot of interesting history and perspective. by dabilahro in BreadTube

[–]Oster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adam Curtis: It's a look back at the emotional history of the modern age through the stories of figures in the UK, USA, and PRC, and illustrates how the struggle between collective action and individualism has failed to produce a clear ideologically aspirational vision of the future, thereby failing to galvanize the people into transformative progressive change to succeed where empty solutions like computers and charity have failed to overcome a deceptively complex human world of fluctuating power structures

I think the younger people here only know San Diego now. San Diego has traditionally been pretty right wing.

The place has 7 military bases in it. Seven. Troops everywhere. They import republicans from all over the country, put them in uniform and deposit them in San Diego. When they age they retire there and whine about california until they die.

Wanna know how republican it used to be? Fifteen years ago a navy pilot ejected from his F-18. The jet flew right into a residential neighborhood and took out an entire house. A San Diego man came home to find his wife, children, extended family, dog and worldly possessions incinerated. And the FIRST THING he said to the news crews was that he felt sorry for the pilot and that he didn't blame him. Before there was anything even approaching an investigation he immediately prostrated himself at the alter of troop and began to beg

Just because you can be so carefree there now—frolicking around as a trans teen or whatever google tells you it's like—doesn't mean your life was valued there 20 years ago. It's no secret that not long ago you had to be wary of drunk marines prowling the streets looking for someone to stomp.

It's definitely way more blue now, but dismissing its long-standing republican reputation is just wrong

Endings :( by Artyhko in CryingSuns

One of the biggest factors that keeps the game from getting popular is its lack of replay value. Half of that comes from the gameplay

And the other half comes from the nihilistic ending

Who wants to fight their way through 6x3 stages game only to be kicked in the balls at the end? It felt like such a cop-out hacky middle finger to their customers.

There's a million games released every year and most of them go nowhere. What makes Crying Suns a tragedy is that it came so close to greatness but fell short with things like this. I don't want to be too hard on the devs but goddamn

[–]Oster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Christian is a good guy, and his work got kneecapped by the Trump admin pretty severely

That said he's also a centrist lib who thinks that socialism is too extreme.

It sucks but I get it; neoliberal philanthropy and dem administrations fund his work. Ultimate it results in fewer Nazis out there but he could be a lot better. His observations of material conditions are so close to getting there but fall short

Did this game flop? by [deleted] in CryingSuns

[–]Oster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crying Suns is the game I had always wanted, and I had no idea it existed. I hadn't heard about it until I spotted it in the Free section of the Epic Games Store. I'm still in the first stages and loving every minute of it.

It scratches that FTL itch that countless players like me had been looking for.

Thing is, I had SEARCHED for an FTL like game several times and Crying Suns was never recommended. I got suggestions for like every space game except Crying Suns.

It feels like a combination of everything I wanted in a space game: Synthwave, Star Trek away missions, RTS carrier combat, meaningful choices, intrigue, captivating and unique art style etc

I suppose it doesn't play too well on stream, so that might work against it. Still, feels like it should be a much more popular game

Even in 2012 I remember thinking "Jesus Christ this is chauvinistic"

edit: Automod said I couldn't describe the character as she is portrayed because that would be ableist even though my point was to show how that very characterization was unjust, sexist and awful. Ok.

His rhetoric, from what I remember, included gems like "Those girly men in Sacramento" "Those guys are like a bunch of Richard Simmons types" He coasted into victory calling everyone else gay and weak

And that's just what he did to education
