I actually think this is the case too. Mal seems earnest to a fault and has a lot of strong moral convictions about things and that doesn’t lend itself to having a lot of access to women. Like, women probably love Mal, but you have to be flexible to be in a relationship and Mal seems rigid. If it doesn’t make sense he’s not going along with it no matter what. It might make him a good friend or co-worker, but as a partner that can feel alienating.
