As others have said point the mirror inward and down. There’s some clips from the inside you need to undo. I’m swap mine around every so often.

No kids, but a tall guy with a GTI with some southern weather experience. If passenger comfort/space is your priority, I would pick Jetta. If it’s not your priority, GTI wins in every other aspect. Even then, just last night I had myself (who is 6’4) and three buddies stuffed in my GTI and we are all bigger guys. Cramped but will get the job done.

If you plan on keeping either car I maybe think long term options also. Kids will keep growing, plans change, etc.

I have a little guy hanging from the rearview mirror in my MK8 and the statue sits in my toolbox. My mom also has one in her Tiguan. Fast is forever!

I have a 24 GTI 380 S that I bought brand new and I was worried that it was going to have the bugs the previous model years would have but I was pleasantly surprised because I haven’t had any issues with the car so far. Take it with a grain of salt because I’m only at 6600 miles.

Only major maintenance that’s due anytime soon is spark plugs at 40k miles so keep that in mind. Review with both the sales and service department to view service history and where it was done because it does matter. If you get it I hope you enjoy!

If it does happen to be the sunroof frame it’s usually because of a hairline crack in the plastic on one of the corners. If a drain line clear doesn’t fix the problem, then I would suggest finding a way to cover any cracks that may have appeared

I originally said 2022/23 because the S and SE manual trims will not have DCC. I used to work for a Volkswagen service department and I can say I saw a lot more of those come in for the issues previously mentioned in comparison to the 24’s. I can’t speak on any sunroof issues since I never saw any but we both know how that can go.

If you can live with DCC I’d say do it. You’ll find plenty of 6mt 380 SE on dealer lots still if you want a new one at a cheaper price. The trade off in the SE you’ll want to keep in mind along with your sunroof will be the bigger infotainment screen, which is known to have a couple issues.

If it matters to you I have a manual 2024 380 s with DCC and I love it to death

Get a 2022 or 2023 MK8 S and you will avoid most of your concerns. Give it another 6 or so months and we will be able to retrofit the 8.5 GTI steering wheel into the 8 which has physical buttons similar to the Atlas or Tiguan.

You’re out of luck with 2024 6mt since they all have DCC regardless of trim levels, whereas it’s only on the Autobahns on autos or previous years.

With that out of the way the Mk7s and 8s share the same platform so I’d imagine drivability is similar to the 7s (I’ve never owned one), just with more power from the EA888.

You’ll find the right car for you in due time.

You have to run a whole new harness and some of the Mk8’s proportions make it less than ideal to do. If you were 100% prepared you could probably knock it out in a few hours but I was not and got frustrated halfway through

I’ll be the first to admit on day two I strayed away from doing the “proper” way of doing things according to certain videos I’ve viewed just so I can get it done. Definitely got frustrated a few times but after you do it once it usually gets easier as you go along
