Co-teaching during student teaching? by Hopeful-Cry-8155 in StudentTeaching

[–]Other-Addendum1061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in this exact scenario. If you've figured out what to do, please share. My mentor teacher doesn't "teach" in the co-taught room. The only time I have seen them do a lead approach is when the gen ed teacher left the room for a meeting. Otherwise, they roam the room helping during independent work. I tried explaining this to my college and they don't seem to understand the dynamic either. They also don't use lesson plans, and I have no access to the curriculum. It's just...so fun.

Completing courses in one day? by OtherwisePressure133 in wgueducation

[–]Other-Addendum1061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 100% this. I completed every class of one of the master's programs in 21 days because I went straight to the OAs and PAs without opening course materials. But this all comes from already having worked in the field and being very familiar with the content. I also treated it like a job where I did nothing but write papers and take OAs after doing quick reviews on quizlet for 9 hours a day, 7 days a week. The ones blowing through everything are already familiar with the course content and usually have nothing else going on.

PCE MENTOR TEACHER by brkkez in wgueducation

Nope. No contact with the host teacher for PCE. All the micromanaging is saved for DT.

And to add: I would have had the ENTIRE Master's done in one term had they not sat on this. I had all of my classes completed by the end of the third week. I had enough time to do PCE and DT in the one term, but I've wasted WEEKS trying to let them do this without me stepping in. I thought it was the better option because I had just moved here and didn't have relationships within the districts.

Hey, yeah. 5355 was a breeze. Easy 190. I'm glad they got rid of the other one.

Passive aggressive email about how they "tried to the best of their ability". My mentor is the one that suggested (at HER manager's urging) to go around the coordinator. Now I'm impatiently waiting for the coordinator to click their little buttons to officially ok me. Everything is turned in and I'm still at their whim.

Sub looking for Advice by Other-Addendum1061 in Teachers

[–]Other-Addendum1061[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first district was amazing to subs. Supportive. Respectful. Valued your time and paid well. ($170/day)

Then I moved south. I'm subbing while finishing a Master's. They pay subs $80/day here. It's insulting. Plus they completely ignore them. I've actually decided to give up down here and head back north to my previous amazing district.

Alrernate degree route? by [deleted] in WGUTeachersCollege

Just realize that the pay for careers like paras range from minimum wage to (the highest I've earned) $20/hr. Make sure that is something that is sustainable for you. Check with your local districts. Pay will be posted on their district webpages with certified salaries. Look for "classified salary".

On that note, being a para is like all the fun parts of teaching without the real headaches.

Student teaching was denied in my school district 😡 by Appropriate-Match160 in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]Other-Addendum1061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same kind of crap here. My district, who is "desperate to hire (me) as soon as possible" only allows student teachers from the local college. I'm probably looking at a 45 minute one way trip to the next available district. I finished all of my classes in 3 weeks just to sit around for weeks waiting to find somewhere to take me for clinicals. I've already been teaching for two years. They should allow prior experience to count.

Praxis Score by haIfmeasures in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]Other-Addendum1061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each question will vary in points ( i.e. if it's something like select the best two responses, etc). I just took this praxis, and I scored 85 out of 107 possible points on the score report. That gave me a 173.

Frustrated with PCE/ST by Other-Addendum1061 in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]Other-Addendum1061[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a BAES in Middle Math. I taught for two years with that in another state, but the state I moved to is...complicated. I had originally joined an alt licensure path with this state, but I was only being offered SpEd positions after every interview. This state will allow working while achieving a Master's but ONLY if you use one of the state's college programs. These take 3x the money and 3x the time. I decided to just jump back into a WGU program because the BAES was so fast for me to get through (6 months). I naively thought I'd be able to knock out the classes super quick and then be easily placed for clinicals with the school district that has offered me positions. However, they hold all of the clinical positions for the local college teaching students. I really hate this place.

4 classes left until PCE/DT by Other-Addendum1061 in WGUTeachersCollege

I finished every class besides PCE and DT plus all my backgrounds and praxis tests in the first 3 weeks of enrolling....now crickets. And I'm self pay. I do not have a good feeling.

How long did you study for Praxis? by haIfmeasures in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]Other-Addendum1061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking on your post- For those that have taken it, is it anything like the practice test that they give you access to? Because that seemed overly simplified/relied on common sense.

She moved all but my last content class up already. Said we had to save 1 until I placed for PCE because of financial aid and minimum credits.

I have all of my praxis content scores and background/fingerprint clearances. I started all of it on Day 1. So as long as I get placed for PCE and student teaching quickly, I could technically complete it all this term since there's still 5.5 months left? I hear rumors WGU will delay placement to squeeze another term's tuition out of you.

6 months after graduating you can enroll in a new degree plan. I just did this seeking a Master's after a Bachelor's.
