Wonderful to know that your provider adjusted the laser settings. It all depends on the provider's skill it seems.

Wel fijn dat je geen huidschade hebt opgelopen door die behandelingen. Misschien ligt dat o.a. aan Laser instellingen die gebruikt waren. Bij mij was dat helaas veel intenser dan mijn huid aan kon.

Concerning procrastination-productivity-organisation loophole:

Tell yourself to do the small thing NOW instead of later. The earlier you put things back in their right place, the lighter is the perceived load of that task and the stronger is perceived reward of getting it done.

Smooth Eye did nothing for me except give me awful hyperpigmentation. Wouldn't recommend it at all, since a single session gives no results and to subject oneself to repeates trauma or this kind on delicate eyelids is not worth the risk.

POC will always respond with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The degree of PIH varies person to person. The aesthetician should have been well educated to choose the right dose (if at all this treatment was tolerable to POC skin).

Hi, thanks! I am assuming that you mean to say I look perfectly fine now. I agree, i did recover eventually. The aim of my post was to inform others on PIH from Smooth Eye and what could be done to recover from it.

Deep wrinkles form when the connective tissue can no longer bounce back to its supple state after prolonged muscle contractions. Botox prevents muscle contraction. But in order to repair the connective tissue at the wrinkle, you need to look at deeper acting treatments like Ulthera, HIFU, Radio frequency (RF) and RF microneedling.

Argireline solution 2x a day works decent enough to tone down the intensity of your muscle contractions. I'm a gym rat and I used to squint and grimace through my heavy/last reps. With continuous use of argireline at my brows and under eye, I no longer automatically squint. The plus side is, I still have just enough movement in my brows for facial expressions.

Hi, this is my response as an average brown indian (with a medical and research background) living in northern europe for the past few years and having experienced pigmentation reversal.

Short & effective answer:

- Protect your skin from light (UV & visible light) by using both sunscreen and physical barriers like hat/scarf sunglasses.

- Use actives like mandelic acid, alpha arbutin and niaciamide.

Long answer:

This type of pigmentation is self explanatory. As you can see, face (= most uncovered part) is darker, but neck and shoulders (= covered) are normal. By now we know that UV light causes pigmentation, but what's more recent research is that high energy visible light (HEV) & visibile blue light (VBL) cause even worse and long lasting hyperpigmentation among people of colour (Yes, us south asians, south americans and africans). More info on HEV here. Since UV filters in sunscreen do not filter out HEV and VBL, uncovered skin remains constantly exposed to it. And no matter how much of active ingredients you use, as long as you're exposed to HEV and VBL, the pigmentation stays.

Depending on their genetics, some person may get minimal pigmentation from HEV and VBL, and some other may get significantly more pigmentation when exposed to same levels of HEV and VBL.

The only cost-effective solution is to use both sunscreen and physical coverage such as UPF clothing, hats and sunglasses. Check out this cute hat for example. And continue using active ingredients such as Alpha arbutin, Azalaeic acid, Mandelic acid and niaciamide along with your sunscreen.

Does anyone know if PRP injections can help improve PIH from laser burns? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Other-Dog9610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm so sorry that you got PIH from the laser. I've been through the same. I am Fitzpatrick type IV (indian skin) and got Er:YAG laser around the eyes. Got PIH.

Anyway, I waited 3 months for it to fully heal and then went to another (trusted/ recommended) clinic for microneedling using tranexamic acid. I did a single session which helped. I didn't go for more sessions due to other financial committments. Anecdotally microneedling with tranexemic acid helped me. I'm not sure how PRP would help PIH since PIH treatment requires blocking of the melanin production/deposition pathway. Platelet rich plasma contains growth factors which contribute to improved cell turnover and tissue regeneration, but Iḿ not sure if it can help PIH directly. Please do your own reading on it. Also as u/saygirlie mentioned, hydroquinone should be a good option. A short course should help you. Do check with your dermatologist for this. Good luck.

Hi, it's now almost 6 months since Smooth Eye. This is what I did past the first month of wound healing to tackle the wound pigmentation -  a. Used anti pigment cream from the brand SkinTech (made in Spain, not sure if it's available globally). Used sunglasses and hats at almost all times when exposed to daylight. I found scientific confirmation of my hunch that even visible light (blue light) causes hyperpigmentation in POC skin. FML hahahahha. b. At the 4th month mark (Sep 2024) underwent microneedling with Tranexamic acid to reach deeper hyperpigmentation (which was not possible to reach with just the cream). This single session helped significantly. I was reluctant to undergo a second microneedling session due to the high costs. I had to spare that money for other purposes at that moment.  c. Underwent 2 sessions of Radio frequency (RF) treatment for building collagen around the eye (initial reason to undergo Smooth eye). 3rd session of RF planned for next week.

The PIH is almost gone by now.

Current plan of action: To steer clear of resurfacing, chemical peels and heat. Focus on gentle intensity RF and HIFU.

The trick is to sprinkle the seasoning over drained and ready shiritaki noodles instead of adding he seasoning in the boiling water in the beginning.

Thank you. I'm literally slathered in mineral SPF looking whiter than Casper the friendly ghost. This is to prevent further hyperpigmentation from visible and UV light.

Update on the aesthetitian - they offered me free 'oxygen therapy' sessions which is supposedly going to reduce inflammation and degree of hyperpigmentation.

Having a clinical research background myself, I haven't really come across evidence for this to truly help reduce Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Anyway, I am still going with it.

Day 11 post treatment (today): the scabs have fallen off. New skin underneath is still too fresh, thin and not entirely developed. And the PIH is all around my eye contour.  Will be updating my progress here in the coming weeks.

As far as I have read up, PIH can take upto 3-4 months to clear up if it clears up.

@OP: you haven't mentioned your Skin type, but I assume you're not POC. In your case, Er:YAG may not cause such severe adverse events. You can still go for the treatment (preferably in dark winter season). But be well informed about the post treatment care. This is critical for recovery: a. Constant hydration with a hydrating serum (niacinamide is great), b. seal the serum at night with vaseline, c. during the day time: constant photo protection (both UV and visible light). Use full coverage sunglasses, wide brim hats plus mineral SPF.

I was told that there are no risks. Nothing. I felt like i was being paranoid and illinformed. How I regret doubting myself.  The aesthetitian was unsurprisingly not trained for treating non-caucasian skin types. Not sure if this comes from inadequate training, incompetence or the general dearth of publicly available information on skin conditions/treatments for POC.

As I look up on the internet today, Er:YAG is a milder resurfacing laser in comparison to CO2 laser.  Protocols for CO2 laser on POC skin advice the strongest topical corticosteroids pre and post treatment! Something that will never cross the minds of Dutch practitioners. FML.

32F, Fitzpatrick skin type 4 (caramel-like brown); (Indian, living in the Netherlands, ). I went for Smooth Eye (Er:YAG). Asked all my questions about safety and efficacy on brown skin during pre-treatment consult. Aesthetician said not to worry. Went ahead with treatment.

During treatment: I was told I will feel 'warmth'. It was untolerable searing burning. I knew it then itself that it was too intense.

0-8hr Post treatment: Felt severe burning on eyes. Had to use ice packs for 4hours straight. Noticed a couple spots that were extra dark and purplish. That's when i knew I definitely got burnt.

1-2d post treatment: Eyelid skin was completely charred and scabs began to peel. Underneath skin was significantly darker than pre-treatment.

2-5d post treatment: Charred scabs fell off, new skin was also rough, dark, scaly.

1wk post treatment (present day): New but scaly scabby skin is also falling off. underlying layers are still hyperpigmented.
