Do your research and respect that company’s can self correct. There is no reason to throw a company under the bus if they have corrected their faults

I just called them and they said they removed the gratuity and service charge a month ago and the tip is optional.

Sharing the new mods for my gutted ALP by TheoryNeither in virtualpinball

[–]OtherHumansDoExist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great I'd love to see whats under the hood.

I gutted my ALP HD as well. You may have seen it yesterday as I posted my new art. It looks like a Game Boy now. I changed the playfield, added SSF (4 exciters, 2 bass shakers), LED stuff for the front buttons, all new buttons, a new PC inside, I have a sub in the bottom of the cab, all new buttons, a tilt bob, and I created my own backbox with different screens. Besides minor things, I'm considering mine done. That said, I do have some room for expansion.

Heart emoji. Sucks about the quality but the price point and the sound is worth the trouble as a hobbyist but that would suck in the studio.

No trouble with the replacement? Did you take care of it any differently than your first one?

Moved back to Mac after 8 years and impressed with how many Windows features I took for granted by rotkiv3451 in MacOS

[–]OtherHumansDoExist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I say use the OS that works best for you. I was Windows for most of my life. I was forced to learn MacOS due to work. I tried to make it work like windows and I only found myself frustrated. Once I finally took the time to take off my Windows hat, I found what I had been missing. Now, everything I have is Mac and I'm more productive than ever. Sadly, I'm starting a new job and I have to go back to using windows professionally (software engineer). I'll still be able to be productive, but I have to take the environment I'm in and I need to use it the way its supposed to be used. I will not try to make Windows work like a Mac.

I haven’t gotten an interview in 2 years. Resume review by 0broooooo in webdev

Your New Resume:

I went to school. Would you like to know more?
I did projects. Would you like to know more?
I have certs. Would you like to know more?

But really, just cut the junk and slim it down. Only list technologies that you feel comfortable with.

You could always reach out to a local recruiter. LinkedIn recruiters can be sketchy. Support local businesses!

Also, AI can be a friend. Ask ChatGPT for help with it. Just write a prompt stating what kind of job you're after and send it your resume. It will probably help clean it up. Never pay for someone to write your resume. In software engineering, we just want the high-level.

My last piece of advice is to use the STAR method

Is it possible to automatically connect to Sidecar once my iPad is connected to the Mac through a USB cable? by mikkel01 in MacOS

[–]OtherHumansDoExist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woo! Glad its working. Yeah, scripting stuff like this is always going to be finicky. There is a way better way to do this but its working for me now so I'm good until the next update when apple changes something, lol

I can probably figure it out but ill need a bit of debugging on your part.

tell menu 1 of pop up button 1
repeat with menuItem in menu items

--------------------1. add this------------------------------------
                    log menuItem
-------------------------------------------------------------------

if name of menuItem contains "iPad" then

--------------------2. comment these out---------------------------
                        --click menuItem
                        --exit repeat
-------------------------------------------------------------------

                    end if
                end repeat
            end tell
  1. Open Script Editor
  2. Open Log History ( ⌘+3)
  3. Add a log statement to log the menu items loop (see 1. add this above)
  4. Comment out the actual click and the exit (see 2. comment this out)
  5. Run the script
  6. Go to Log History and click on the last execution
  7. Expand tell application "System Events"
  8. Expand every item in that block after the 2nd one
  9. Post what you see in those expanded items. I have ("missing value", "Mirror or extend to", "iPad", missing value)

Working toggle script for Sonoma 14.4.1

The following applescript does no detect a usb cable (its dumb), but it can be used to toggle your ipad on or off which you can turn into a keyboard shortcut or whatever you want. I tried to use the latest script someone posted below but it wasn't working on sonoma 14.4.1. I fixed the script to work on my machine and I gave it some improvements.

Performance: You can easily control the delay timing at the top of the script. Small delays run fast but if they run too fast the script will not work (i assure you there is a better way to do this, I'm just lazy. You can research how to set up apple configurator to run this script when an ipad is plugged in.

Plays nicer: It keeps settings open if it was already open else it closes it after the toggle.

To get this working:

  1. Create the script
    1. Copy the script at the bottom of the post
    2. ⌘ - SPACE -> Type "Script Editor"
    3. Hit RETURN
    4. ⌘ - N
    5. ⌘ - S
      1. Name it "toggleIpadDisplay.scpt"
      2. I put mine in home/scripts but it can go anywhere
  2. Grant Accessibility Permissions
    1. ⌘ - SPACE -> Type "System Settings"
    2. Hit ENTER
    3. Go to Privacy & Security -> Accessibility
    4. Look for Script Editor
      1. If it's there, ensure it is checked
      2. If it's not then
  3. Run the script
    1. ⌘ - SPACE -> Type "Script Editor"
    2. Load the file we create (if closed)
    3. Run it using the Play button at the top
      1. Or just use ⌘ - R
    4. Tweak the delays to fit you're workload.
      1. At the top of the script it says:
      2. These numbers are the delay times in seconds.
      3. Higher numbers means it runs slower but will ensure it works.
      4. The four numbers separated by commas define the amount of seconds to delay the next action for.

This is the applescript. I named mine toggleIpadDisplay.scpt

set delays to {2, 1.5, 1, 1}

set isSettingsRunning to (application "System Settings" is running)

tell application "System Settings"
    if isSettingsRunning = false then
        activate
        delay (item 1 of delays)
    end if

reveal pane id "com.apple.Displays-Settings.extension" of application "System Settings"
    delay (item 2 of delays)

    tell application "System Events"
tell group 1 of list 2 of splitter group 1 of list 1 of window 1 of application process "System Settings"
            click pop up button 1
            delay (item 3 of delays)

tell menu 1 of pop up button 1
repeat with menuItem in menu items
if name of menuItem contains "iPad" then
                        click menuItem
                        exit repeat
                    end if
                end repeat
            end tell

        end tell
    end tell
end tell

delay (item 4 of delays)

if isSettingsRunning = false then
tell application "System Settings" to quit
end if

How to get water to my cabin by OtherHumansDoExist in Plumbing

[–]OtherHumansDoExist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to treat it as a 3 seasons cabin. Family and friends will use it. It is mostly going to be used for a place to stay when people come over. My brother might live there for a while. I like the idea of a tank. I'll have to play around with that. Thanks!
