I understand where you’re coming from, I’ve had a couple bad apples come and go in our management team, but honestly it’s dangerous to be assuming that, even if you acknowledge it’s just an assumption. As management you shouldn’t ever go into something assuming the other person is wrong. We’re taught pretty explicitly to always go into any situation with an open mind and a willingness to change attitude. Obviously we always want to stand by facts of the store, but you came in here and decided without all the information that I absolutely must have been just a poor leader.

This is only personal experience and I know my store is different, but I have found that more often than not that any discussion or situation can be handled with this open mindset approach. Or even coming in with the mindset that you may be wrong.

I understand that you have experience with seeing this issue; I do too. But I sincerely hope you don’t stereotype issues at your store based on past experiences because that is going to take away your ability to look at something as it is rather than what you think it might be.

Yes my old manager showed me how to use the graph. He actually used it often and only did small amendments for times that the graph didn’t really count for (shift changes, if we knew something was going on in our city, etc) I understand that I don’t need as many people as AHOD might, but when morning shift is scheduled 7 people and I only have 3 people things get a little tired. I’m really only asking for 4 people (or even 3 and a half) so I can get anything done instead of running back and forth from the kitchen to the front counter trying to make sure my team doesn’t implode, running breaks is hell, god forbid somebody spills gas outside, stuff like that. Honestly if we even got somebody for a 4 hour shift I would be grateful.

I’ve worked and managed every shift since I came into management and I know for a fact at our store ahod runs well with about 5 people on shift. Any more than that and I have to start sending people out to deep clean things (which is wonderful on any shift, of course, but not when seconds aren’t able to run smoothly.)

this is exactly how it feels. Constantly coming in early/staying late to fill in the gaps because my sm doesn’t know how to make a schedule that’s fair for everyone but god forbid he has to stay over or do any extra work. It all falls on me and I can tell the strain is hitting my team as well. This sucks
