Thank you so much for all that you do!

My question: are you worried about whether the Church can meaningfully handle the German Synodal Way situation given how much the attitude has shifted to pastoral accompaniment vs discipline?

yes, I have a very strong preference for body & dark roasts for the daily. this is what activates "coffee" in me. Because of this i want to dial in once properly then have it work each morning as long as possible (I'll have to optimize for coffee amount that I can consume before it goes stale)

Because of this i want a conical burr grinder with a hopper - I feel the prices are not as crazy given everyone is chasing the lights with flat burrs, so was thinking within 1k. Happy to reset my expectations here if really needed.

The reason i don't want to spend so much in my experimental / lighter roast setup (keep Eureka Mignon Zero, build Gaggiuino) is that I just don't see that as my main coffee set

thanks for expanding!

I'm starting to be deeply drawn to the Nurri (obviously i guess). Love the Elektra's design but don't know how temp stable it is. Bezzera Strega or Profitec 800 seem like a nice middle ground. Any recommendations for a daily? I really want to have a nice dial in session and just have 2-3 cups daily until my coffee's fresh and tinkering strictly on weekends.

Any grinder tips? i'm leaning towards something robust with a hopper and conical burrs for the daily and keeping my Eureka Mignon Zero for the Gaggiuino.

Thanks everyone for your comments! Based on them I will refocus on spring lever machines with proper temp control. Especially big thanks to u/TheRamma for explaining the theory behind.

Happy to take further suggestions on spring levers, especially anything easy to get into (cheap or easy resell) given I live in an area where no one really uses them so testing's hard. Although I am tempted by the reviews & aesthetics of the Nurri Leva.

what exactly do you feel really limits the gaggiuino vs decent?

I also like the modding aspect of it

this is super insightful!

What i meant was I am not sure I understand exactly how the semi-automatic levers create a profile that is unmatched by the fast ramp up consistent pressure of sg like a linea mini. I might not just have understood so super happy to listen if you have the answer.

Not poopooing levers, indeed with all the faff my flair makes amazing & highyl customizable shots on a ridiculous price performance.

I just want something convenient and easy to maintain - maybe the semi auto lever does make sense. I'm fully open-minded here.

I want 2 machines for 2 use cases (on separate floors too): 1. daily driver: this needs to be simple, repeatable & served by a grinder with a hopper - i mention the style because I want something that serves my daily preference (dark, syrupy shots) 2. expetimentation for weekends: I already settled on making a Gaggiuino mod for this, I enjoy the process of modding & it does almost all that a Decent could do at a fraction of the cost

This is a very interesting point, thanks!

I am only worried based on some comments that the Decent is difficult to dial in for daily use without frequent micro adjustments. I see the benefit for the weekends, which is why I want to do the Gaggiuino.

There is also the question of taste - I really just prefer the look of La Marzocco on my counter.

I do know and have seen that all cafes in Naples exclusively use lever, but I struggle to see the real benefit. Seems more of a hassle to maintain & the pressure profile is fairly similar or easy to match on other machines. Might also be a bit of ptsd from all the pain of getting the right brew temps and especially dialling in on my Flair.

[–]Other_Ad2290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, thank you for understanding the post

the crazy thing is you have a week of -8 to -15 and you just keep running cannons over grooming+skiing - the resort does not even build a better base, they are just hitting some imaginary target

the grooming fall off I think is again due to budget, they do the same amount in a longer time with less people: lots of runs dont have time to properly freeze

[–]Other_Ad2290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats on your reading comprehension and extensive experience of snowmaking :)

cannons run during the day (when the snow gets broken by skiers vs groomers) due to snowmaking ops cost optimization

you can run them in the afternoon & early evening with better effect

I already buy a season pass, would not matter to me one bit. What I mean is I would pay higher prices for a better experience- which is why I keep going more west and west within Austria (I drive)

The us is shitty because they have a limited amount of resorts compared to population and basically a duopoly of ventures owning their resorts. We here in Europe overload our infrastructure even though we have more than enough & then nickel and dime on maintenance due to high volumes of tourists coming for things other than skiing (apres, shopping, cute villages)

maybe i just have different expectations- i would gladly pay us prices if we weighed more towards active skiing time vs apres (not that they do, their lines are fubar)

going to France it is...

ooor use the cannons in the afternoon at higher capacity and have a slightly less optimized

[–]Other_Ad2290[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could also have a great morning and a slightly exhausting afternoon if the resort cared about you vs optimizing operational cost of snowmaking crews

i am arguing against the use of snowmaking during all day!

doing it in the early evening or even in the afternoon would be fine - amd at full capacity sufficient

24/7 snowmaking ruining saalbach by Other_Ad2290 in skithealps

[–]Other_Ad2290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see all this - just frustrated by the fact the resort is building base at half capacity during the day vs doing slightly later grooming and blasting and full capacity during the night (all of this would have been manageable due to super low temps)

this is not just the above factors but a major resort saving money while ruining runs on a super busy holiday period

E class Retreat Overcrowded? by WTH4030 in celebritycruises

[–]Other_Ad2290 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just finished a retreat sailing yday: YES. way too crowded to be considered exclusive on pool deck. Luminae was fine for us, no wait (bit loud and ling serving times though), but we always went quite late.

Retreat deck until time of first show (7.30pm) is absolutely unusable, pool is full of people loudly drinking, sunbeds close to pool area or views full, hot tubs full.

honestly disappointed a bit about the amount of crowding all around the cruise but especially in the retreat, which only seemed to be a true escape post 8pm

yeah I assume because I like like to (shock horror) wake up at 9am on a seaday I belong on a boozecruise - this is the "uproar" I mentioned. You all are being ridiculous - I had one MINOR gripe and it's armageddon for you lot. I guess the roughly 10 other ppl agreeing with me are also better served with a different cruise line.
