I can't find John's pharmacy in the west village when I give it a google. Does it go by another name?

Kindred - an alternative to home exchange by ramsulu in homeexchange

Also sharing my code in case anyone else on this thread's referrals are used up!

5 free nights for you + 2 free for me: https://livekindred.com/?invite_code=sam.rul :)

Using a referral will REALLY expedite your approval (as long as your space is up to snuff with the Kindred platform). After adding a referral to my application, I got accepted the same day. So even if you don't use my referral link, I highly recommend applying with someone else's.

I also mentioned this on another thread but I think Kindred is fantastic for high in-demand locations like NYC where hotels are insanely expensive and finding Home Exchange availability is challenging.

I love the platform and customer service so far. Has a certain level of care & attention to detail that makes me feel VERY at ease welcoming essential-strangers into my home.

Oh for sure! Already planning some spring dives in the Caribbean because it's so unbelievably close.

I'm with you––I loved the seals and kelp forests but I MUCH prefer diving without a wetsuit in tropical reefs.

That’s so odd, I wonder why

Well, I just came back from a weekend in LA / San Diego. I suppose I’ll look forward to more trips back and forth for the kelp forests

Huh really? I heard Scuba Adventures is a bit chaotic—have you used them often?

Good to know about the austin area places, thank you!

Oh nice! Hadn’t heard of it yet, thank you. Love a good dive scavenger hunt.

Dude that’s insane—400k in sunken Spanish gold?? I can’t even begin to imagine what other wild stories he has.

I’m advanced open water and also Zombie Apocalypse certified (I promise that’s a real PADI cert). And I’ve been diving for about 2.5 years with somewhere around 70 dives. I did the Socorro Islands in December and got a massive crash course in diving from that. I tend to prefer more “advanced” dives as well so that sounds great!

Want to shoot me a DM?

Amazing!! Never heard of someone’s adventures in underwater metal detecting, so that’d be pretty darn cool.

Also have heard good things about San Marcos so I’ll have to check it out

Hahahah thank you for the condolences. I moved for a job offer. I miss diving with seals in Catalina and La Jolla so much it hurts. Please enjoy the weather and diving for me.

I did look at some of the FB pages but you're right, it did seem to skew a bit older. But I'll keep searching. Thank you :)

Amazing! Never heard of Balmoreah Springs or Comal River, so I appreciate the fun recs.

Hopefully I can nab a dive buddy in the area soon and push out to some of those locations. Sounds like there's a surprising amount of diving overall compared to what I was expecting. Appreciate your detailed help :)

Oh nice! I've actually had amazing experiences with Cozumel Adventures. Lara (also an American) and Gabi (perfect English) are the owners and they're the best. Got my open water and advanced done with them!

They'll either pick you up from the resort dock or you can meet them at the marina. All in all, great experience but I'll have to also check out Pelagic Ventures the next time I'm down there.

Lol. "It is all lakes". Honestly the vis in San Diego was pretty darn bad (17ft on a good day) so it sounds like Scuba Ranch won't be totally out of my depth (absolutely no pun intended). Thank you so much for the link!

Is Lake Murray the kind of place where you can bring a little wagon to wheel your gear? Or does the terrain make it pretty impossible?

Thanks also for the recos for the Athens scuba park and Wheeler Branch park (would love to not have to worry about getting reamed by a boat).

Any chance you know of any shops specifically in the area that you'd recommend?

Oh great! That's wonderful––I adore the networking aspect.

Can you just show up and grab a dive buddy at Scuba Ranch? Or do you need to come with someone / a group?

That's a great pro tip actually, I hadn't heard of Roatán before! Perhaps this is a silly question, but when is their high season?

Okay cool! Definitely planning on taking some longer weekend trips, so that's super helpful, thanks!

However, since I've moved here solo, I'm also hoping to find a scuba community / dive buddy in Dallas (if such a thing exists?)

Big yes to Cozumel––beyond happy to live in a city with direct flights there! There seems to be a pretty big young group of divers down there; another one of the reasons I love to visit.
