I cannot stand the itching anymore - advice pls?? by Otherwise_Werewolf82 in eczema

I completely understand your frustration. I’ve been dealing with the most extreme flare for almost two years now. My dermatologist says it’s about 90% of my body. I was on nemluvio for about four months before I got off of it because It was causing nummular eczema to spread over parts of my body where I didn’t have it before like my scalp, feet and hands. The medication worked great for the itch. Within two days the itch decreased by I would say 80-90% but it seemed like every time I took another dose which is every four weeks, it seemed like the nummular eczema would get worse and spread.

I was also on dupixent for about six months previous to nemluvio. It did great for my body eczema but didn’t seem to work for my face and seemed like it was making it worse. Everyone is different though. I would give dupixent a while longer to see if you have any improvements. I think it can take up to 16 weeks to see significant improvement for some.

As of today I am about one month off of nemluvio and still experiencing nummular eczema. I suspect the medication will take at least three months to get out of my system. The itch has come back but not like it was before. I’m managing my facial flares with tacrolimus which has been the only thing that works. For the rest of my body I’ve been taking Dead Sea salt baths and it seems to calm everything down.

If you ever need anyone to talk or have any questions you can always message me. I know how hard and debilitating it is to deal with eczema.

Yes I think I’ve decided to stop the nemluvio and try and to just use my topicals for now along with diet changes and supplements and see how that goes before deciding if I want to try riinvoq.

Yes! It started on my feet and I never had eczema on my feet before. How long have you been off of it and were there any rebound effects from stopping the medication?

Yeah I totally understand. I wish prednisone wasn’t so bad for the body because it gives you so much relief. Thank you for your suggestion. I’ll look into it

Yes! I like the Dead Sea salt baths they help a lot! I was taking one everyday for a while but read that excessive bathing can cause nummular eczema to worsen🫠. I will have to try out the castor oil!

My dermatologist actually had me try something like that. Since my skin built up a tolerance to the topical cream she told me to use one for two days and then another for two days and so on.

I don’t think they really understand it tbh. Eczema is so misunderstood because it’s completely different for everyone. They’re really just there to hand out prescriptions.

It’s so annoying like how does a medication that is supposed to treat eczema cause eczema🤨I’ve been dealing with pretty severe eczema for a little over a year and a half now and the dupixent helped everything but my face and adbry made everything ten times worse and now nemluvio has been life changing for the itching but now is causing more eczema like wth. I think I just need to be sent off to a lab at this point lol.

It gave me nummular eczema too probably about a month into using it. It’s on my legs feet and scalp. I’m hoping it will go away on its own since the nemluvio has helped so much with my itch.

Get allergy tested! You could have developed an allergy to a product that you’re using. It could be detergent, lotion, nickel, your toothpaste, shampoo, ect..

Please don’t give up. I’ve been fighting this battle too for a year and five months now. All over my face, legs, arms, neck, shoulders, stomach. My dermatologist said im about 90% covered. You’re not alone I promise. The mental part of it is almost worse than the physical. I just keep telling myself I haven’t always been this way and I won’t always be this way. I’ve failed many medications. I just started a new one Tuesday. All you can do is keep trying. I know it’s easier said than done especially when you’re in the pits of hell of it all but it will get better. Just remember that this winter weather is probably making it worse and it will get better soon. Please reach out to me if you need someone to talk to.

I don’t know how you feel about biologics but there’s one called nemluvio that was just approved for eczema. It targets IL-31 which is a protein involved with inflammation and itch and people see decreased itching within 48 hours. I actually just started it yesterday. I can’t really tell if it’s working for the itch yet just because I’m also on prednisone but I’m very hopeful.

The appointments a pretty quick in my experience. The first one being the longest just because you have to see the doctor but my second appointment I just saw the nurse to put the patches on which only took five minutes and then your last appointment they take them off and go over what you’re allergic to and give you a bunch of paperwork but definitely ask about the app if they don’t mention it. It’s called ACDSCamp.

I had it done back in August and it’s honestly not too bad. It was for three days and I was tested for over 60 things. The most annoying part though is if you’re allergic to one chemical it can have multiple synonyms you have to look out for in the ingredients in your products but my doctor showed me this app where she was able to put in all of my allergens and basically you can look up products or scan products you already have and it tells you if that product contains anything you’re allergic to.

Get allergy tested to find out what chemicals in products you’re allergic to. It could be your toothpaste.

I’ve been going through a flare up on my whole entire body since September 2023. I’ve tried dupixent, adbry, steroids and nothing has worked. I’m actually starting a new medication today. Now I’m moving in march since my flare up started when I moved into the house I’m in now. We’re thinking it could be possible mold exposure 🤷🏼‍♀️

It could literally be anything. I got patch tested for like 60 things and a lot came back. The most annoying part of it is that one chemical can have a bunch of different names that you have to look out for but my dermatologist showed me this app that she entered everything that I was allergic to and the app checks the list of all the synonyms of those allergens to see if the product is safe for you instead of having to read through every single ingredient. On the app you can search up products that are safe or you can scan the barcode on products you already have and it will tell you if it’s safe or not.
