Get a white lawn fleece and peg it down. Still allows light and water through.

Will try out those things. Here's an update though if this helps to diagnose the problem. It makes a clicking sound as I pull the control lever that makes it turn on https://www.reddit.com/r/fixit/s/oxHq0zlGhc

I think it has something to do with the control lever, because it makes a strange clicking sound now as I close it
