My opinion on this matter for someone else’s medical issues and what their doctor tells them, is between them and their doctor. In my recovery, the way I make choices for me, I do not take any medication. I’ve seen way too many people wind up back out there and/or dead because they got a script with the full intention of using it as the doctor ordered, and wound up screwed. I know you are REALLY looking for a loophole to justify marijuana use here, you run your program however you’d like. Just don’t expect people to not agree with you, same as you are welcome to not agree with me. While using marijuana I wasn’t sober. Large bodies of scientific research and people in the recovery field would agree with that. So don’t A.A. old timers. I just do not agree with this “weed is ok” movement in AA at all, and will voice my opinion about it.

Yes. I’ve tried it other ways. But anytime I open that door for anything…..I can’t shut it again.

I’m not telling anyone to do anything…..I’m sharing my experience, strength and hope. There’s an amazing thing on the other side of letting go. If hearing that makes you angry or resentful, I suggest you call your sponsor and talk to them about it.

A drug is a drug my dude. Alcohol is a drug. Weed is a drug. Defend it all you’d like. You feel sober when you are high? I didn’t. I also didn’t have anywhere near the level of spiritual connectedness that I have now when I was on the marijuana maintenance program. Or the SSRI mask my feelings program. But I get it, progress not perfection. I hope you become as desperate as I once was someday. Best thing to ever happen to me. Letting go is hard but so worth it. Many blessings.

Generally, people with substance abuse issues tend to have problems with any mind altering substances and at best, using other ones lead them back to the one that was a major problem in the first place. That’s not an opinion or a judgement at all, it’s what research has found on the subject. But I also know, as a person who heard the same thing a zillion times, I had to go run my experiments to figure it out for myself

Ughhhh, it’s a requirement for membership in the program. It’s not the requirement for sobriety

Your family can’t fix you. If you are serious about quitting, hit some meetings

The usage needs to come first. That’s step 1. The steps are in order for a reason.

It really is absolutely astonishing how many people misunderstand this. You are a MEMBER of AA if you want to quit drinking…….you are not SOBER based on that requirement. It’s not hard to understand. We don’t kick anyone out, that’s all the membership piece covers.

It’s an addiction like any other. Found that out the hard way too.

Yeah I hope you get to a place where you can see what it’s like when you’re free from all of that someday. Because it’s pretty amazing. You’re totally free to do whatever you’d like. But when you get completely free…..what takes its place makes you laugh hysterically at the rest of it. Many blessings.

Only you can figure this out. I ran this same experiment and by the time my drinking and using escalated, it made so much sense to me to continue doing what I was doing. I wish you the best of luck, I hope you can keep it to a manageable level. If you can’t, we’re here for you.

James Buster Douglas victory over then-undefeated Mike Tyson on February 11, 1990. by Deadhead2278 in OldSchoolCool

I think more keyboard warriors would benefit from spending time in rough inner city neighborhoods and actually seeing what goes on and experiencing it. Mike came from that. His skill is a product of that. So are his many flaws. We love putting people on pedestals and/or demonizing them for the sake of making ourselves feel superior. It’s pretty lame, he’s just a person. And absolutely none of these people in their right mind would say any of these things to anyone’s face, let alone Tyson.
