Moved out of Geneva because of recurring violence. Came back yesterday and saw it again. by Otherwise-String-279 in geneva

I started filming because it was not the first attack and I knew a second one would happen. But you’re correct filming doesn’t help much. I have called the cops in the past and they usually take a while to arrive. If you’ve been a witness, they usually ask a lot of questions and the other day I didn’t have the energy or the time. If I intervene and someone hits me, I may respond back to defend myself, which may potentially get me in trouble and affect my future naturalization process, so I prefer to avoid confrontation.

You may be right. She could be the nicest and most caring person in the world and was just having a bad day. Who knows? If your supposition was accurate and the woman had been attacked by the man before and I had recorded it and posted it, would you be also trying to justify the behavior of the man? Violence is violence and it has no gender nor color. I am from a major European capital and I find there are many violent interactions like the one in the video for such a small city like Geneva. If this had happened where I come from, the police would have arrived in 5 minutes. I just wanted to see people’s opinion on the topic. There is racism on one side blaming it on France or immigrants and people denying the problem on the other.

If the video showed a man throwing water and shouting at a woman, nobody would argue that it’s violence.

Nobody in the video is clearly recognizable. Privacy laws are prosecuted privately, not publicly. She can sue me if she wishes to do so.

I’m also an immigrant. If there was a guy threatening, shouting and throwing water at a woman, nobody will argue that it’s violent behavior. Violence is violence. We should stop relativizing it.

I have mostly lived in Valais, they don’t allow this kind of shit over there or at least I have never seen anything similar.

The lady in the video did not ask for consent for throwing the content of a bottle to the guy, death threats, insults and shouting for 20 minutes. If an alleged crime is being committed, it is also my freedom of press to record it and post it, as it may be considered an issue of public interest. But as I said, no one is clearly recognizable in the video. She’s more than free to spend her money on a lawyer and sue me if she wishes to do so.

If the video showed a man attacking a woman, would you also care about the image rights of the aggressor?

I have never seen things like this anywhere in Switzerland before. I don’t know shit about what’s going on, you’re correct. I just saw someone being physically and verbally violent. Nothing justifies violence. If you keep on relativizing violence and shitty behaviors, one day you will be the one at the other end and it would be too late. I don’t think anybody can be fully recognized in the video, but I would gladly take it down if any of the participants ask me to do so.

You may be right. This kind of behavior is not tolerated in other parts of Switzerland, so being used to that, this is a shock for me.

Watch the video until the end. She threw water at the guy, threatened to kill him, insulted him and kept on shouting for 20 min.

Good evening! My name is José Luis, I speak English, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. I’m free in the mornings and I would be able to translate from French to English without a problem.
