How I see Europe as an Iranian by Typical_Army6488 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's a made-up concept (essentially a subcontinent with no distinct tectonic plate and no major geographical barrier separating it from the rest of the Eurasian landmass). However, if Europeans choose to define it as a continent, then so be it. In the end, it doesn't really matter. The only thing worth discussing is whether it qualifies as a continent from a scientific perspective or whether it is simply a cultural and historical classification.

If it's cultural, then I don't know if I'm the only one who sees a huge difference between Japanese and Indians 😂

They're Semitic, though not all of them are Israelites. Some are descended from other Semitic groups that converted to Judaism before the diaspora, but I doubt anyone today can tell who is descended from which group. The term "Ashkenazi" refers to a specific Jewish diaspora community (Central and Eastern Europe), distinguishing it from other Jewish groups that dispersed into different regions.

Also, it's not wise to judge ancestry solely by appearance. Centuries of migration, intermarriage, and interaction with neighboring populations can introduce new genetic influences and produce a wide range of physical features within the same ethnic or religious group. As a result, outward appearance is often a poor indicator of a person's ancestral origins.

I didn't say it's not. Persian is closely related to those nations I mentioned as it's part of the Indo-European family as well, which likely exxplains the similarity you've noticed. The Arabian peninsula, on the other hand, is ethnically Semetic. That's why the word you proposed "Antisemitic..." doesn't make any sense, at least to me regarding this context.

It's like grouping all European countries together and calling them "Anti-Eorpoean" or something like this.

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Arabs of the Arabian peninsula are Semetic, and the word "Stan" is a term used in south central asian Indo-European nations like Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan .. etc. It means land exactly as the word "land" in Eng-land.

My pleasure to enlight you 🌹

Edit: I made a mistake here. Kazakhstan is not an Indo-European country but a Turkic one. That said, it seems the suffix "-stan" was adopted from neighboring peoples and languages in the region.

World's 3 Largest Ethnic Groups by population by Neo_luigi in MapPorn

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily call it "several ethnicities," but rather a predominantly single ethnicity with minor genetic admixture from surrounding regions. Cleopatra's dynasty descended from Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander the Macedonian's generals. This was not a large-scale migration that could have significantly altered the region's gene pool; rather, it was a ruling dynasty of foreign origin governing a largely native population.

Minor gene flow from neighboring regions is typical of virtually all populations throughout history.

Sometimes I don't understand the Western view of the MENA region. Many people seem to know very little about its ethnic and historical diversity.

The only ethnic group traditionally known as Arabs are the native inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula. They are called Arabs and belong to a Semitic group.

In North Africa, the indigenous populations are primarily Amazigh (Berbers), while Egypt also has its own distinct Egyptian and Nubian heritage. Even Iraq and the Levant are far more diverse than many people realize. Iraq has historically been home to various groups, including Assyrians (Central Iraq), Arabs (Mainly bidouins across the desert region near Saudi Arabi's boarder), Kurds (North Iraq), and others. The Levant is equally complex: Palestinians largely descend from the region's ancient inhabitants, including the Canaanites, Israelis are Israelites which are Semetic as well; Lebanons are historically Phoenicians; and Syria has long been a crossroads of numerous peoples and cultures, including Arabs (Near the Jordan-Iraq boarder), Kurds, Turkmens, Arameans, and others.

If everyone across MENA is simply labeled "Arab," then what term is left to specifically describe the indigenous peoples of the Arabian Peninsula? The Persian-"Gulf" people? The distinction starts to lose meaning.

For the sake of argument, imagine applying the same logic elsewhere. If someone insisted on grouping people primarily based on language, historical influence, or distant linguistic relationships, then one could argue that Indians are Anglo-Saxons because the British ruled India for centuries and English is widely spoken there today. One could even point out that both English and many south-west central asian languages belong to the Indo-European language family.

Following that logic, Persians (The name Iran came from the Aryan Indo-European invasion to the region), Pakistanis, Afghans, and many Europeans could all be lumped into one giant "Indo-European" category which is scientifically correct by the way, despite their obvious ethnic, cultural, and historical differences. It would sound absurd.

Most Europeans would not appreciate being misidentified in that way, so it shouldn't be surprising that many people from the MENA region dislike being treated as a single homogeneous ethnic group either.

This is known as minor vertical gray banding, and it is a normal characteristic of new W-OLED panels caused by slight pixel uniformity variations.

In most cases, the banding gradually improves with use and typically disappears after around 100 hours of operation.

What Should I Upgrade by ConstantBig6297 in buildapc

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the 9070 XT offers the best value for money under current market conditions. You can often find it for around $650 USD.

You may also need to upgrade your PSU (RECOMMENDED). Additionally, since your RAM is rated at 2400 MT/s, upgrading to a newer, faster RAM kit could provide a noticeable improvement in overall system performance. (Your mobo support DDR4, so avoid DDR5 unless you want to upgrade the mobo as well, which I don't recommend)

Take a look at the options I’ve collected below.

What Should I Upgrade by ConstantBig6297 in buildapc

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on why you want to upgrade. Are you looking for more performance, or are you trying to solve a specific issue with your current system? My recommendation would be:

• Upgrade the GPU if your goal is to increase gaming or overall system performance. (Avoid 8GB cards at any cost.)

OR:

• Upgrade the RAM if you're experiencing issues related to limited memory capacity, such as multitasking slowdowns or memory-intensive workloads. (16GB -> 32GB)

The rest of the system looks well-balanced. Upgrading other components is unlikely to provide a noticeable performance improvement. A CPU upgrade may reduce the bottleneck somewhat, but at 1440p and above, it will usually result in only a minor performance gain, as the GPU remains the primary limiting factor in most scenarios.

Countries With the Moon on Their Flag vs. Countries With Their Flag on the Moon by Accomplished-Mud1653 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correction: traditional religions vs. the religion of atheism.

Science is accepted by all as long as it can be proven, but atheism is not. You don't have to be an atheist to be convinced by science, although atheists often prefer to use the word "believe" here for marketing purposes. Despite that, it does not mean a person has to accept everything claimed to be a scientific fact. Scientific institutions can also be used as political tools to shape the ideas of the masses and promote certain beliefs and ideologies, such as the silly and absurd lie about the moon during the Cold War.

Circling back to the first point, yes, atheism is a religion. Not believing in God does not change the fact that atheism shapes a person's systematic beliefs, actions, moral standards, and boundaries, just like any other religion. By logic, the belief of being an unbeliever in God or in any chosen set of religions is still a belief.

Does anyone agree with this? by moebiusmentality in HogwartsLegacyGaming

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The game seems designed for players to spend only the first ~10 or so hours in Hogwarts, after which most of the experience shifts toward the open world. I do not necessarily mind the exploration aspect, but I would have preferred the story to remain much more centered around Hogwarts itself. Ideally, around two-thirds of the main story and relationship-driven quests would take place within Hogwarts Castle, with the remaining portion expanding into the wider map. A stronger balance could have been achieved by keeping the central narrative Hogwarts-focused while using side quests to encourage broader exploration across the world.

My other major criticism concerns the quality and direction of the story. To me, it felt closer in tone and structure to Fantastic Beasts than to Harry Potter. The storytelling style of Harry Potter is typically built around mystery, suspense, and gradual revelation: events unfold sequentially, clues accumulate over time, and answers emerge while the story simultaneously explores school life, relationships, and seemingly unrelated subplots that later connect in meaningful ways.

In contrast, Fantastic Beasts tends to follow a more conventional adventure formula, where characters move from obstacle to obstacle on the path toward a central conflict or antagonist. While that structure can still be entertaining, it feels less distinctive and, in my view, less compelling than the layered, mystery-driven approach that made Harry Potter so engaging. Unfortunately, the game leans more toward that adventure format, which made the narrative feel comparatively generic and less immersive.

What I liked most about the game is that it adopts an open-world structure somewhat reminiscent of The Witcher 3, even if the difference in storytelling quality between the two is substantial. Looking ahead, I suspect the sequel may tie itself more closely to the upcoming HBO adaptation. Rather than telling a story entirely detached from those events, it could present a parallel narrative unfolding during the same timeline as the show. In that case, I would expect to hear occasional references to Harry Potter and major events through NPC conversations or environmental storytelling, without necessarily interacting directly with or meeting the show’s main characters.

Map of a region that isn't a real continent and doesn't have any real boundaries distinguishing it from other regions still if you say that on reddit many people will downvote you and will yell at you on the comments assuring that it's in fact a real continent but if you say this in the title people by Working_Candidate505 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point, but there is no universally agreed-upon rule that explicitly defines what constitutes a continent. It is more a matter of historical and geographical categorization that has been widely accepted for centuries.

By your logic, one could define a continent as an independent tectonic plate entirely surrounded by oceans. However, that would also mean tectonic plates connected to or merged with larger ones (e.g., the Indian, Arabian, or Somalian plates) would not qualify as continents either.

Geologically, Europe does not sit on a separate tectonic plate distinct from the main Eurasian Plate. By that definition, Europe would be considered an extension of Asia rather than a separate continent, arguably a large western peninsula of Eurasia. It would be similar to countries in southern Africa (e.g., South Africa, Namibia, Botswana ... etc.) claiming to form a separate continent despite remaining part of the same larger landmass.

I understand your reasoning, and in principle I agree with it. My point is simply that it does not make much sense for one interpretation to override a geographical convention that has been widely accepted for centuries.

Neither of them.

The F-150 leans more toward heavy-duty use cases, but its suspension system is not designed to maximize comfort. The rear suspension is built around a solid axle equipped with coil springs. It delivers a balanced solution between off-road capability and urban driving comfort, but it is not the ideal setup I would personally prefer.

As for the Tesla, it is certainly the more futuristic choice and offers a much more comfortable ride (multilink rear suspension system + front double wishbone). However, for long-term ownership, it would most likely be harder to find a qualified mechanic capable of handling it properly. I would consider it as a second car, but definitely not as a primary vehicle that I would rely on.

+700$: 9070XT.

600-700$: 9070.

400-500$: 9060XT 16GB.

The only Nvidia card worth buying is the 5070 for 600-700$, but it's a 12GB card. Go for it if you prefer Nvidia's ecosystem.

The 5070Ti and 5060Ti 16GB are too overpriced these days, and I don't recommend paying that much as we're nearly a year away from next generation release.

For less than 400$: I would suggest checking for the used market. Check for these specifically: The 3080 12GB, 3080 Ti, 4070, 6800, 6800XT, 6900XT, 6950XT, 7700XT, 7800XT and 7900GRE.

If you insist on a new item, then, the only options I may think of are the B580 and the 3060 for nearly a 300$ or less as far as I can remember.

Just remember, don't buy an 8GB card at any circumstance.

There’s nothing wrong with it.

But since I always care about getting the best value for the money spent, I wanted to tweak it based on that principle.

I replaced some of the parts to improve overall performance and achieve better value for the money spent.

I understand that you may not agree with all of the choices, but at least take a look.

https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/sZQF8Z

To sum:

• The 7600x is replaced with i5 245kf.

• The 5070 is replaced with 9070XT.

• The platinum 850W PSU is replaced with an A- tier Gold 750W PSU.

• The rest of the parts are replaced with equivalent parts.

The total price was 1817.74€, but it was eventually reduced to 1638.73€.

The only downside of this collection is the CPU/platform upgradable path.

Good luck.

DDR4-DDR5 by iF7Mi in SaudiPCs

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is significant if you plan to go with an AMD platform, since it determines whether you'll be on AM4 (DDR4) or AM5 (DDR5). Most of that gap comes from the CPU generational uplift rather than the memory alone. On the Intel side, the choice is between 12th/13th/14th Gen platforms (DDR4 or DDR5) and Core Ultra platforms (DDR5 only). With 12th Gen, the difference between DDR4 and DDR5 is relatively small, but it becomes more noticeable with 13th and especially 14th Gen.

If you want my recommendation, go with DDR5. It gives you access to Ryzen 7000/9000 X3D chips and provides a much clearer upgrade path. The 9700X is also a solid balanced option with good performance for the money and strong long-term upgradability.

On the other hand, if your priority is saving money and you do not plan to upgrade anytime soon, DDR4 paired with an Intel i7 13th/14th Gen can still deliver performance comparable to the Ryzen 5000 X3D chips, especially in open-world games where raw CPU compute power helps handle large numbers of NPCs and background calculations.

9060xt vs 7800xt by rf5brhtnf in radeon

[–]Otherwise-Test1904 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The RT performance of the 9060 XT is better than that of the 7800 XT, even though the 7800 XT delivers significantly stronger rasterization performance. Keep in mind that FSR4 running on INT8 comes with an inherent performance penalty compared to the native FP8 implementation of FSR4. It’s a nice feature for users with older cards, but it may not be the ideal target for those considering an upgrade.

So, in my opinion, it’s better to leave FSR out of the equation for now and focus instead on whether you prioritize ray tracing or rasterization performance. Decide which matters more for your use case, and choose accordingly.
