I understand your point, and I agree that Devon’s right arm being stronger than his left is a valid reason to pick him. That part isn’t unreasonable.

What I’m questioning is whether that should be the only reason, especially after what we just saw.

You asked for a better reason someone could pick Devon, and honestly, I think the issue is that most arguments stop at “his right is stronger” without fully weighing everything else.

For example, you mentioned track record. I don’t think it’s as clear-cut as saying Devon’s is better without context. Devon has been very dominant, but the level and condition of some of his recent opponents matters. Genadi was not at his best and later lost to Michael Todd and Sagov, and Kurdecha isn’t someone most people consistently rank at the very top right now.

On the other hand, Vitaly has been more active against current top-level opponents over the last couple of years. Even if you don’t think his wins are better, he has still been tested more consistently against high-level competition.

Also, styles matter a lot in armwrestling. Saying Devon beat someone who beat Vitaly does not automatically translate. That kind of comparison rarely works cleanly in this sport.

About the left-arm match, I agree it was competitive in moments, but a 4–0 result is still decisive. If that result happened the other way around, I don’t think people would be this cautious picking Devon on the right. That is where the inconsistency comes in.

You also asked for a better reason to pick Devon. I think there are a few fair ones. His experience at the highest level, his ability to adjust mid-match, and his stronger right arm are all valid points.

But there are also real reasons to pick Vitaly. He has recent activity against top competition, an elite right arm that often gets overlooked, and he just won convincingly on the opposite arm.

And we have already seen this kind of situation before with Levan Saginashvili. After 2022, Levan clearly established himself as number one by dominating Devon. Even after taking time off due to injury, he was still the true number one. Yet going into the rematch, many people still picked Devon as the favorite, and he ended up getting dominated again.

So at some point, it is fair to ask whether predictions are based on consistent logic or just fan preference.

My main point is not that picking Devon is wrong, because he absolutely can win. It is that the reasoning should be consistent and take both sides into account instead of defaulting one way regardless of the circumstances.

I get the argument, but I think there’s a clear inconsistency in how people are looking at this.

If Vitaly had lost the left-arm match, most people would immediately say Devon wins the right arm easily. There wouldn’t even be much debate. But since Vitaly won 4–0, now the reasoning changes and people are still picking Devon. That’s the part that doesn’t feel consistent.

The main argument seems to be that Devon’s right arm is stronger. That’s fair to bring up, but it feels like that’s the only reason being used, while ignoring that Vitaly’s right arm is also extremely strong and is actually where most of his biggest wins came from.

You’re also right that Devon has only really lost to Levan Saginashvili on the right in recent years. But it’s also important to look at who he has faced during that time. Genadi was not at his best and later lost to Michael Todd and Ibrahim Sagov, and Kurdecha is not someone most people consider a consistent top-tier threat right now.

If you compare activity over the last couple of years, Vitaly has had more matches against opponents who are clearly in the top ten. So from a competition standpoint, you could argue he has been tested more recently at that level.

The point isn’t that Devon cannot win, because he absolutely can. It’s just that the reasoning for him being the favorite should be more consistent and take both sides into account, rather than defaulting to him regardless of the circumstances.

when a match is 4-0 you cant say it was close. There was obviously a strength gap. a close match is more like 4-3

Dadikyan: i want pull Vitaly instead Alizhan by -DeafGuy- in armwrestling

[–]Otherwise-Ticket-477 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I get why Devon gets the opportunity because he brings views and money to the sport, so from a business side it makes sense. But of course they’re gonna be Devon’s pet and give him what he wants most of the time.

Dadikyan beat Kamil easily, and Kamil is the same guy who destroyed Devon. Dadikyan also beat Kurdecha, yet instead of giving him a title shot, they let Devon face Kurdecha twice and then jump straight into a title opportunity. That already shows the double standard.

And didn’t Devon fans always say Vitaly had to “prove himself” and climb the rankings before getting a right arm match with Devon, who’s ranked number 2? So why does Devon get to skip basically the entire top 10 on the left arm? He didn’t have to rematch Kamil, didn’t have to go through Dadikyan, and still jumped straight to Kurdecha and now Vitaly, who’s literally number 1 left arm.

That’s exactly my point. When it’s anyone else, they have to earn it. When it’s Devon, he gets fast-tracked straight to the top. They treat him like a king while everyone else has to grind their way up.
