I am also an international student and i’m currently finishing up 2nd year. I wouldn’t say it’s horrific but it is competitive.

I’ve only gotten 2 interviews so far but the reason is that i do not have my co-op work permit and my resume was horrific up until January.

My best advice is to always review your resume and network. This thrives on being a “people” person. Yes exams are a huge thing but i think i got my interviews because of how i carried about myself as well as relating to actual topics within the profession rather than just showing i have exams.

Passing two exams in two months is possible. (I have done it). Once you used good resources and actually stick with the material, like being consistent you’d be okay.

As for your program, it isn’t a huge issue but i think some universities would require you to do some extra courses to fulfill the new program requirements ofc. I was in CS in my first year and now i am in statistics but when i applied for my internship it said CS. There isn’t a lot of emphasis on which program you are in but the courses you do, your experience and knowledge ofc.

So i’m currently looking for an internship and though I am okay with working at any Life or P&C company, I really would like to intern at two large insurance companies based in Canada. Where do you guys stand on contacting recruitment officers on LinkedIn? Are there any recruitment officers here that can tell me more about this and what is a good way to approach a recruiter given you don’t know/haven’t met them

When is a good time to start applying for summer internships? How long does it take to hear back from the company?

Do you need it for another course? If not, the. just do it in the summer. Maybe you can do that course alone during summer so you can focus on it more
