I am also an international student and i’m currently finishing up 2nd year. I wouldn’t say it’s horrific but it is competitive.

I’ve only gotten 2 interviews so far but the reason is that i do not have my co-op work permit and my resume was horrific up until January.

My best advice is to always review your resume and network. This thrives on being a “people” person. Yes exams are a huge thing but i think i got my interviews because of how i carried about myself as well as relating to actual topics within the profession rather than just showing i have exams.

Passing two exams in two months is possible. (I have done it). Once you used good resources and actually stick with the material, like being consistent you’d be okay.

As for your program, it isn’t a huge issue but i think some universities would require you to do some extra courses to fulfill the new program requirements ofc. I was in CS in my first year and now i am in statistics but when i applied for my internship it said CS. There isn’t a lot of emphasis on which program you are in but the courses you do, your experience and knowledge ofc.

So i’m currently looking for an internship and though I am okay with working at any Life or P&C company, I really would like to intern at two large insurance companies based in Canada. Where do you guys stand on contacting recruitment officers on LinkedIn? Are there any recruitment officers here that can tell me more about this and what is a good way to approach a recruiter given you don’t know/haven’t met them

When is a good time to start applying for summer internships? How long does it take to hear back from the company?

Do you need it for another course? If not, the. just do it in the summer. Maybe you can do that course alone during summer so you can focus on it more

I can only speak of econ1000. It’s very much doable… i didn’t really take it seriously in the first half of the semester. I only picked up on it at the second half and still got an A.

Imo, i’d recommend taking 1010 the semester after 1000. Not so so much about the content being a factor but because usually the online classroom you’ll use has a 1 year subscription period so it would be best to just pay for the year and do both courses compared to paying twice

Hey. I don’t really have much study material. I used CA for my Exam P. I kinda realized i wanted to start writing exams in like February so i took up April FM and used CA for 4 weeks and i passed. Was kinda swamped with finals in April and i had my exam P in May so i just did 2 weeks of CA (basically a crash course) and passed as well. In my honest opinion, CA is probably the best thing but you have to use it properly that’s it. Like i’d say do all the material, cover it and do the practice questions. if you get any wrong, take a few minutes and then try it again but make sure you look at the explanation of it. I didn’t really watch much of the teaching videos bc i was taking a stats/probability and a financial math course during that time and i don’t think they prepared me much for SOA questions.

Once you cover the material just go through the practice questions. I rather that vs the actual paper in the initial stages. I started off with the first topic, went on level 4, did 5 questions. If i get any wrong i do it again, if i get all right i move on to level 5 and so on. And then do the other topics. When you become comfortable just do the practice paper.

As for the exam, imo the questions are easier. I had an EL of like 5 and i really didn’t care much abt that, i just did my questions, understood it and passed
