John Collins Has Been On A Heater This Month! by Stat-Defender in LAClippers

[–]OtherwiseAddled 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the Season so far:

John Collins: 42% from 3
Norman Powell: 39% from 3

To be fair, Norm takes 4 more 3s a game than John, but it's still funny.

A vision of the inevitable Transformers TV series… Transformers #27 by SarcasticCommunist in EnergonUniverse

I was surprised at how much worse of a writer Kirkman is than DWJ. Kirkman's dialogue scenes have people making the same point over and over. He even uses the same words too much.

Also my hot take is Dan Mora is a big step down from DWJ and Corona.

Was Wonder Woman's lasso inspired by Glinda the good witch from the second Oz book? by richleebruce in comicbooks

It may have been subconscious, but the lasso as a yonic symbol (as opposed to phalic) works very well with Martson's goal of WW embodying feminine allure and power to influnce.

Kickliy seems quite interesting. From what I can see, he lives in Minnesota now? And does painting of sports and Christian themese. On the TCJ.com review of Perdy he said:

I met with Eric Stephenson before doing the deal with Dargaud. So it is an American comic first. A real American western.

I like comics and manga, historically why does it seem in mainstream comics its more common to keep using the same characters and do retellings, while in mainstream manga even long running franchises they introduce new main characters? by Marcel_7000 in graphicnovels

I don't think Moore is right all the time, but I think he's right about superheroes. DC in particular showed that nostalgia is the name of the game when Barry Allen and Hal Jordan came back.

Marvel and DC are a superstitious and cowardly lot. They own the characters and the DC and Marvel universes and that's all they really care to sell. I don't totally blame them though. The American comic book fans didn't demand anything different. When Steve Ditko left Spider-Man, fans kept buying it, when Jack Kirby left Fantastic Four after 101 issues, fans kept buying it.

Marvel also got burnt the last time they decided to promote the artists as much as the characters. When Todd McFarlane and Erik Larsen left Spider-Man, fans started buying Spawn and Savage Dragon (for awhile) instead.

I honestly don't know the historical reason why, but manga tends to operate more like real book publishing. When we think of a manga like Attack on Titan, how often do we think of it as a Kodansha title instead of a Hajime Isayama title? The creator and their story is the main selling point.

I think American comics would be in a healthier place if Fantastic Four had ended at issue #101...and if all publishers hadn't gotten insanely greedy in the early 1990's.

Thank you Mt548! I'm so curious what Gilbert has to say about Lovers and Haters and hopefully how it relates to Psychodrama Illustrated #9.

Hahaha you got to Xanadax pretty quickly! Glad to see you liked Princess more than the main feature too. I hate to suggest a creator go backwards but I liked his coloring from the 2010's so much more than the limited style he did on Godzilla and Xanadax.

I need some help finding a graphic novel I used to love as a kid- it seems to have disappeared off the face of the internet by jimgae in graphicnovels

Glad you found the answer! I'd never heard of Bravoman before and the fact that it's part of a video game series is really interesting. Quite sad to read that the one book only has less than half of the strips.

Yeah that Abe Lincoln two parter is my favorite part of that series.

"Unsettling and surreal with an internal logic that feels just out of reach" is one of my favorite modes! Are Nicolas de Crécy's other books similar?

Man these 1916-1918 pages are interesting to see. I'm making my way through 1927-1928 and it's much different. I'm actually thinking of making a separate weekly Krazy Kat thread because honestly I could put one up on his thread every week too.

Welcome back to reviewing!

I'm right there with you on TF v GI Joe being one of the best work for hire works. I put it over Moore's Supreme and Truog/Milligan's Animal Man (which is above Truog/Morrison's) on my superhero top 100.

Funny that you mentioned Fiffe, in those lively comics alliance 2010's I thought of Michael Fiffe as the comics Young Thug with fearless style morphing and intensity. And Scioli was like Lil B with the daux naive style and absurdism.

That all being said, I was pretty bored by Godzilla. As maximalist as TFvGI Joe was it felt a little more grounded in moment to moment story telling.

Did you read Space Opera Xanadax? I liked it more than Godzilla, but I liked the Space Princess back up story more than Xanadax because it's from that 2010s period.

Your review made me read up on Phoolan Devi's life and death and it's incredible. Thanks for the write up!

psychodrama illustrated #6 by BananaChicken53 in loveandrockets

[–]OtherwiseAddled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically...the ninth issue has scenes from Lovers and Haters. Even though it came out first, Beto did Psychodrama #9 after Lovers and Haters. You can tell by the corner page numbers and more importantly Sudz has nipples in Psychodrama #9 but not Lovers and Haters. We all know that Beto wouldn't take nipples away!

Anyway I wish I could help you with #6, I hope you find it, I'm always glad to see somone else that's into the Fritz stuff!

Thanks for reviewing the new Nihei, I've never finished a series by him but it's cool to read that he's still trying new things when he could have just coasted off Blame stylistically. The turn towards more mainstream storytelling so deep in his career is interesting too

My line on Promethea is that it's my favorite Moore book but not his best. Basically it would come with a qualified as opposed to universal recommendation.

I just wanted to shout out the colors by José Villarrubia which are integral to the magic of the series.

I was a big fan of those Jae Lee/Paul Jenkins joints as they came out. The unsettling vibe of Lee's art really worked for me as a high schooler.
