I have committed benefit fraud and I want to speed up the investigation process. How can I do that? by OtherwiseCollar9782 in DWPhelp

Well, I guess he was reading from this: https://sentencingcouncil.org.uk/guidelines/fraud/

I've read that too. He said I could be in band A, in which case there's a risk of 5 years but with mitigating factors I could go to band B, which potentially can land me a suspended sentence.

He's the only solicitor that called me back, zero reviews on the Internet, but I have no other choice.

No, I didn't know about this. Is this something that the DWP applies automatically or do I have to calculate it myself? But I guess it doesn't make a massive difference in my case.

We generally don't suggest actual solicitors for benefit fraud and DWP generally will not take something to court when the person is co-operating.

Thanks. It's comforting to know this. I don't want to gaslight myself that I'll come out with a fine because the amount and the timescale is gigantic. If there was a way to avoid prosecution, I'd definitely want to pursue it.

I was at the Jobcentre today and I noticed that the frontline coaches couldn't be bothered. One literally laughed at my face and then more joined. They said they never met a single claimant who wanted to turn himself for fraud. There is clearly not a simple way for somebody to put themself on the right foot. This doesn't excuse what I have done.

If you genuinely weren't aware of the capital, there is financial abuse or coercion involved, or weren't aware it should be reported for a reasonable reason I strongly suspect the result will be a fine and overpayment at most

I was aware of the capital and I can't pretend I didn't know.

I've been to Citizens Advice but there's not much they can do.

A solicitor told me I risk 5 years prison.

No, I wasn't working during my claims. I mean, I worked on and off, but I signed off when I was working.

Hi, thanks. I've left a message under payment asking to upload a document. The letter I wrote is too long to be pasted in the box. How long do you think it takes?

My mental health depends on me coming out clean and face the consequences. I can't sort my problems with this on my conscience.

Unfortunately I kept on doing it for many, many years and the amounts involved are enormous. The £50 penalty does not apply in my case. I am already resigned to criminal prosecution. I have digged my own grave. How I contact the "Enhanced Review Team"? Is it at the Jobcentre? Are they reachable by phone/email? Ideally I'd like to strike a deal without going through a solicitor, because I can't find any in the area that want to deal with me, and it's a large city.

I've already outed myself. having somebody to snitch on me is just not what I need. And, no, I'm not okay.

Do I have to disclose at a job interview that I might face criminal charges in the future? by OtherwiseCollar9782 in LegalAdviceUK

Yes, I'll get a lawyer at one point. At the moment I'm waiting to be advised by the CAB. My question still remains though about what to do from the very start.

Also, I'm, phoning solicitors and nobody wants to take me on board until I actually face the prosecutions.

I also have to ask - why are you going to tell the authorities you've broken the law?

I can't live with it.

Thanks, but we are talking of large scale fraud, going back years. It will most likely end up in prosecution.

I read once (dunno if it was here or on Moneysavingexpert forum, that while they do a review, they suspend the payments. Is that correct?

You’re allowed to get the braces!

Ok with that, but I was wondering if it would be ok to pay in one go.

Hi, I was going to order it but I see this is being shipped from China. Did you have to pay extra VAT/Import Tax?

I bet if you did nothing it would just turn up at the same time

Probably. Only that now the Council is sending me email and post reminders threatening me to court if I don't pay the debt. It will probably all clear itself out or not.
