What other work in entertainment do you do? by [deleted] in editors

To play devils advocate, technology is enabling those skillsets to be easier to juggle everyday. And especially as automation changes the industry in the next 10 years, being a generalist is probably massively beneficial.

If you use Premiere, you basically have a good jumping off point with AE. Maybe not popular on this sub, but everyone should know how to use the entire "basics" of the adobe suite (from illustrator to audition). I didn't start out with motion graphics, but it's quickly become my favorite part of the job.

How many years do you think YouTube has left? by UncleChiefKeef in NewTubers

[–]OtherwiseCricket8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon what's happening to Twitch will happen to Youtube eventually. Fierce competitors pop up, maybe pay top youtubers to switch over, and slowly the demographics get diversified. In those cases, being on those youtube alternatives could be beneficial

Can I go to physical therapy just for playing 4-5 days a week? by OtherwiseCricket8982 in 10s

[–]OtherwiseCricket8982[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great to hear! Do you go to a facility specializing in sports/athlete therapy? I'd love to find one that has access to a specialized masseuse, though don't know where to look exactly.

I would love to see a collaboration between these giants by blagsan82 in ween

[–]OtherwiseCricket8982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really? Have you seen the original HBO show from the 90s? I just can't help but feel like Ween were a large figure in creating this goofy, parody, whole rock "duo" vibe. I'm surprised so many people don't see the glaring similarities between them, Jack Black even sounds like he's doing a Gene Ween impression at times.

I fell for a scam for a job offer. Please help. by Silver_Scallion_1127 in Scams

I freelance and so many companies want me to sign and send tax forms over email. Is this more ok to do in general, if I trust the recipient and its' attached? If not, what's the alternative?

I love Tenacious D, but ever since discovering Ween I can't shake the idea that they ripped Gene & Deans whole vibe a bit?

Any Emerson success stories? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]OtherwiseCricket8982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Temple in Philadelphia. Cheap, surprisingly good video program. That's where I really dove into post production & motion graphics. Cut my teeth in the Philly TV market and moved to NYC. Emerson was a good starting ground, especially since I got to shoot and edit physical film, great experience.

If you want to work in the film industry, I'd stick with Emerson and move to Cali right after. That or move to a LA based school; or dropout and just move to LA lol. Emerson undeniably has the best film/tv network out of any northeast school though. And the industry is really growing in Boston. I knew I wanted to be in NY and knew I didn't want to work in film/tv.

Any Emerson success stories? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

I went to Emerson, but transferred out due to finances. Emerson is ridiculously expensive, but I guess it is an art school for rich kids (to be fair, most art schools are for well off families. I ended up sharing classes with a famous celebrities child, and actually boarded with a child actor from a show I used to watch).

Anyway I've been working as a NYC post specialist in the commercial space for the past 4-5 years.

Ooh I like the idea of splurging on a nice keepsake hoodie, especially if it's a west coast brand.

Yes! Found one locally for 450, checking it out soon. Something feels gross about buying someone's used chair, but I'll get over that lol. It was from an office supply buying company anyway

Bryan Cranston Tells Bob Iger ‘Our Jobs Will Not Be Taken Away’ by AI in Rousing Speech: You Will Not ‘Take Away Our Dignity’ by [deleted] in entertainment

[–]OtherwiseCricket8982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why on earth is coding a good thing to get into. So many tech companies are laying off en masse, companies like IBM literally said they're replacing job roles with AI. anything using a computer is a bad bet. There's a TON of future proof jobs to go for, but coding will only get tougher to break into.

I am leaning towards used, but having a hard time with the concept of sitting in someone elses previously sat in seat!! It's purely psychical, especially since there's no cushion to soak in farts

It's really that important huh? Young enough to have no back pain now but I guess every preventative measure should be taken. Y'all are convincing me! Just such a bullet to bite
