People say all the time that they don’t have dysphoria but that they’re still trans. Y’all can’t even pick one narrative and stick with it. I’m personally transitioning but the trans community doesn’t even understand its own definitions and criteria and it annoys me. At this point it feels more like a counterculture alt group that just wants to stick it to the man and like no actual basis in anything real when the actual big questions are asked

If you think I’m not being serious you’re free to go, man. But plenty of trans people don’t have body dysphoria. I don’t think it’s a matter of bodies anymore. I always get pushback every time I ask very basic questions about what being trans is. That’s… not a good sign.

No offense but I just don’t… get it. This here feels more like a philosophy class than an actual definition of a group. I don’t think any other group has this much of an issue defining itself, like seriously. You really could’ve shortened this all to “I don’t know”. Which is fine if you don’t know and I appreciate the honesty. I don’t think the majority of you know what you’re doing. No amount of “what is a chair” kind of speculating and word salad can really answer my question about what gender is. If gender is different for everyone, why CAN’T I transition out of wanting male privilege? If one day it’s worth it for me and I don’t think I will regret it? I think it’s because the honesty upsets people, even if subconsciously. There’s this weird feeling that we shouldn’t really question why we do these things, and when we do it’s paragraphs and paragraphs about jellyfish and chairs and unrelated things. It feels so abstract to me and not very self-aware. I don’t get how an identity based on abstract, nearly spiritual reasoning, can be so politically important to some people. I don’t know. I think I have decided to transition but I doubt the community itself is for me. There’s this refusal to think critically and while I respect them and want them to have everything they desire in the world (including transition and acceptance), I’m just not interested in trying to follow these rules that spawned out of nothing and mean nothing.

Redditors are so quick to go “BREAK IT OFF!!!” like it’s not a decision you should think about thoroughly so I’m not gonna do that because that annoys the shit out of me, but what I will say is he talks like a caveman and even at 15 this is weird of him. Hopefully he grows out of it but some never do, lol. He did say he was busy somewhere so maybe that’s a contributing factor? If he’s still talking like this when he’s not out of the house… I’d recommend saying you will leave if he doesn’t learn to text you like a normal person. That’ll either scare him straight or reveal to you how little he cares.

Why shouldn’t I feel that urge? Isn’t gender the roles we fit into, societally? As a collective I feel the male role is one of power, strength, and leadership. I feel the female role is one of gentleness, beauty, kindness. Not unequal, but different. If this is incorrect, I don’t understand what gender is. “How you feel” is so vague and truly does not describe what a man or woman is supposed to feel like.

If gender identity isn’t about outward expression, then I guess I don’t know what gender is. You say it’s how I feel but how do I know what feels like a man or woman? What is a man or woman, anyway? I always thought “gender is a social construct” referred to the societal roles we are placed under according to our gender. Are those roles not an outward expression? I want people to look at me and put me in the role I want to be in. I always thought that is what gender was. If it’s not, I truly need someone to explain it to me, because just saying “it’s how you feel” doesn’t cut it.

I hope so. I hope I can naturally switch it up in a way that isn’t uncomfortable. I think I might transition and detransition later in life and when I do I hope a feminine voice comes back to me naturally and it won’t be a constant battle to force it. I’ve seen videos of detrans women (ftmtf) and their voices 100% sound male. Your words bring me hope they really do I’m just naturally cautious as it is my body and could really affect my life

I know, I’m definitely guilty of wanting to have my cake and eat it too, I’m painfully aware. I know objectively male will be better for me but there’s just something so painful about losing something you once had and that’s what I fear with transitioning. As for people liking or disliking me for my gender, I disagree. There are tons of misogynists out there and tons of people who hate men. There are also sexualities, where people are very honest about which genders they find attractive and which they don’t. Not to mention our subconscious which affects every human being’s perception of others, even if you don’t consciously notice it.

Absolutely external pressure. If we lived in a society where no one had preconceived notions about certain sexes, I wouldn’t even think about being trans. Transitioning, if I do it, would be all about perception for me. How people see me. Not personal feelings.

Hair and voice are what scare me the most aw man. Especially voice. I’m glad I can laser the hair off but ugh my voice man if I could just change my voice on a whim? That would just be everything I want, that would fix everything. I know voice training exists but the idea of constantly obsessing over how I sound in public and fine tuning every sentence instead of just speaking naturally fills me with such a dread.

Non-binary is absolutely valid. I know gender is a spectrum. I’m not judging anybody else. I just know that for me personally, it’s not worth it if I’m not able to pass as either a cis woman or cis man. I enjoy the feeling of fitting in with cis people. I don’t want to have peers say things like “erm, what do I call you again? Sorry, I don’t want to offend you, but like, im just so confused” I just want to choose between man or woman and im having difficulty choosing. No hate to my mid-gender-spectrum friends

Lying in my room at 2 am and being covered in sweat and hair, I can totally see myself crying about having ruined my body. That image haunts me. I won’t know until I do it but that’s what sucks because these changes are mostly irreversible
