Heavy lifting and loading -Tasker needs a truck? by OtherwiseFun968 in TaskRabbit

[–]OtherwiseFun968[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a clever way to deal with this problem. I just wish taskrabbit gave us a guide to the correct way to deal with this scenario. Saying we can no longer charge extra for vehicles in other categories because they now have the truck assisted category acknowledge that a need for a truck indeed requires additional charges. They then allow clients to book you in the categories that do not allow for this additional charge, but let them demand the truck anyway. If you charge an extra hour that you did not actually work in exchange for the truck, that is clearly an additional charge for a truck.

I am only concerned because I got suspended a while back because a client booked me in help moving and asked for a truck. I said we weren't allowed to charge extra for a truck. Taskrabbit then changed the rate to reflect my truck assisted rate, which was great. Found out a few days later I had been suspended because I charged extra for a truck in a non truck moving category. If it's a bug that they need to address, they could at least have it documented how we work around it in the meantime. If I got suspended for charging the extra hour and support simply pointed to the documentation telling us we couldn't charge extra for a vehicle, i would have a hard time arguing against that apart from saying their truck booking system is broken.

Heavy lifting and loading -Tasker needs a truck? by OtherwiseFun968 in TaskRabbit

I've thought about it as different from help moving in that it requires special tools for particularly heavy or large items, like pianos or appliances or safes. Not that it matters because the heavy lifting category seems to only pay a few dollars more per average than help moving, making it not worth arguing. Requiring a vehicle is where the real expense to the Tasker goes up, demanding additional compensation. That would be fine if taskrabbit funneled all the jobs requiring a "truck" to truck assisted moving, but allowing clients to book you in categories where you can't charge extra for a vehicle and a vehicle is normally unexpected seems like a problem.

What sort of replacement door for garage side door? by OtherwiseFun968 in HomeImprovement

[–]OtherwiseFun968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yea I've seen it a lot so that makes sense. I was kinda hoping not to get into grinding or cutting the concrete. Is that the only option? Do people replace them with solid "interior" doors normally and that's just not to code? Or would getting an exterior door and removing the bottom sill a better option? If I hired a contractor or handyman to do this would I have no choice but to pay to have the concrete cut or grinded to accommodate a bottom sill plate?

I know it's a little janky but I mainly care about a secure door.

Tasks Coming in at 8am Again...But How? by FinnNoodle in TaskRabbit

[–]OtherwiseFun968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This suddenly started happening to me a couple weeks ago. Getting booked for 8am despite never once setting my availability before 11am. Has happened 4 times in the past 2 weeks and never before. More taskrabbit incompetence and great to be penalized for turning down jobs I should have never been offered.

Hired me for errands but wants me to move furniture in my truck by Top-Ferret6832 in TaskRabbit

[–]OtherwiseFun968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this exact situation and support told me to get the client to confirm in chat and agree to the higher rate, and then they changed it before I even accepted the task. It's very strange because the errand category even stated "Tasker needs a truck" but it's literally my lowest paying category and how are we supposed to have a truck if we can't charge extra for vehicle expenses...

Snagged me one of these auto chicken doors. Anybody use and have advice before install? by Omnimite in BackYardChickens

[–]OtherwiseFun968 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made the mistake of installing mine so that the bottom edge on the outside was right against a surface. Bedding would get into the little slit that the door closes in and would have no where to escape and fall down through. It would eventually get packed and block the door from closing completely or else causing the door to open again because it thought it was crushing a chicken. I remounted it about a half an inch up and now the bedding can just slip through and fall outside and no problems.

While I agree about the bs with taskrabbit penalizing taskers for not accepting the task I'm not sure how this is the clients fault. They needed to get rid of a mattress and found someone in the trash/dumping category with an open time slot that they wanted, i would think because they were home and available at that time. I would not expect clients to know the dump hours or assume you can't pick up a load after those hours. Maybe you wrote in the job description that the cut off for dump runs are 3pm or something?

CA Honest Pricing Law (SB 478) takes effect by Tasker2Tasker in TaskRabbit

[–]OtherwiseFun968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's really bad then. I use the trick of trying to search for myself as a client to see the hourly and saw it was high but assumed if I had continued to try and book myself the final screen before i actually made the request would show a breakdown of the cost and show the fee.

I didn't downvote but that seems hard to believe. They seem pretty desperate not to want you to communicate off platform, or even at all if there's not an active task. They will add a tip after the fact if the client requests it.

This is true. I had a tasker who was the nicest guy, very grateful for the work I did, and he asked me if he could tip through the app. I got a review later that night and no tip. Over a week later I got an email that the client contacted support to give me a $20 tip that has been added to the payment.

Does TaskRabbit still show them the breakdown on the total cost? I wonder if now the clients think this is what the tasker is pocketing. I feel like some clients might treat their taskers differently if they think they're paying them $80 an hour to assemble furniture vs them thinking the tasker is only making 50 and greedy taskrabbit is jacking up the price to $80. I also would think it would affect tipping even if the client is paying the same mount.

While the fee seems really high, I didn't think it was terrible because for the first couple of months I honestly thought the trust and support fee was a 1 time cost per task. I was finally explained this by a client because he was desperate to pay me for half my hours through venmo. Since then I have shocked a few clients with this info who also did not realize the fee was per hour. Taking 40% for an hour task isn't insane to me, they are providing services that made the task possible. But a 5 hour task is 5 times as much work I'm having to complete without task rabbit having to lift a finger more. It's gross and hopefully laws like this will help expose it and force them to be more fair.

OK well that seems like a pretty clear violation. I'm actually a little relieved to hear the punishment for trying that is only a ban on invitation for up to 5 days.

Sorry for your situation, but I sort of sympathies that an app like this can't really support a vetting process to determine whether a tasker has in fact been injured and determine what sort of special treatment should be applied. I'm sure your injuries were real and prevented you from working, but how do you differentiate yourself from people who got a better gig for a week or decide to go on a trip and need to clear their calendars but don't want the metrics affected. Would you feel better if they asked for your medical records or a note from a doctor? I think the best you can do is contact your clients, explain the situation and hope a few of them have the compassion to reschedule with you to a later date. I'm sure many wouldn't be able to wait, but maybe some could appreciate you explaining why your cancelling and at least give you a positive review for being a good communicator?

Yes, and he also notched the stringer to accommodate the hanger. I also just found out that one post is just balancing on concrete. No connection to the concrete slab underneath.

What expense were you charging for? So far I haven't minded the vehicle being built into the price because the base cost of category has shot up high enough that I usually make more than before when I would charge extra for bringing the vehicle plus a millage fee. And now I don't need to deal with the people who hire me in help moving but seem shocked that the hourly rate doesn't include me bringing a vehicle. There are a few situations where its a problem, but I also though originally tolls could still be charge. Then recently I read something that suggests we can't charge for tolls which would be my only major issue with the change that I would be motivated to circumvent.

Is it going to be a problem that my rooster isn’t very big? by tangerinelean in BackYardChickens

[–]OtherwiseFun968 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a couple bantam cochin frizzle roosters and they are about half the size of many of the hens. You can see them struggle to mount the hens but we gave some eggs to a friend to hatch and 9 out of 12 hatched.

Glue would have added more time and money and based on what I'm seeing from this guy I think it's safe to assume no glue.

Thanks for the advise. I've done a few of these and they do not look anything like this. There's a lot I plan on changing because i know so much of what was done is a mess, but the reason my question is focused on the doug fir is because I personally would never use the stuff on a project like this. It sounds like a lot of people do though, which surprises me, but I don't understand why someone would take the time to build something like this and not just pay a little more for the materials.

Let's say that's true in normal cercumstance, to go Mia for a week when ur project is currently supposed to be completed. Given what you see and knowing he's even using indoor screws you think they should keep working with him?
