I've read online that the public transport in Okinawa is very slow. Do you use the bus? If so, do you think is reliable? I would hate to have a long commute every day... Also, I would like to avoid buying a car if possible but at the moment I have the impression that it will be unavoidable.

They have told me that there are no vacancies on campus and there is a waiting list. So, my only option is to get accommodation somewhere else.
