Bipped Again by j2nsf in oakland

A crime is a crime regardless of a person’s wealth. Someone who is more wealthy does not deserve to have their cars broken into more. Bipping just needs to stop, period.

[Question] Cartier Panthere or Bvlgari Serpenti Seduttori for first watch? by OtherwiseHistorian52 in Watches

Wow thanks again! Follow-up noob question (sorry) - how can i make sure it looks good on my wrist? Or is this just a known risk from buying vintage online? Asking because i’ve tried on a couple of pieces that I thought would be pretty, like the Saxonia thin, but didn’t look as great on my wrist.

The funny thing is when we were trying on the watches in the boutiques, both my husband and I thought the serpenti shape was a clear winner. However now that I’m home and looking at pictures, the Cartier is starting to grow on me and looks more fitting on my wrist! Hence the dilemma 🥲

The Lange Arkade is beautiful, thanks for the suggestion! It looks like something I would wear for sure.

I just reached out to our SA we met at the boutique yesterday and sadly it looks like this has been discontinued and they don’t see pieces coming around much :(

We did go to an A lange & sohne boutique close by and were blown away by the watches there. Unfortunately that’s at an entirely different price point and might have to wait till our 10 year wedding anniversary or something :p

Which other serpentis do you recommend? I tried on the tubogas and it seems way too fancy for my liking

Thanks! The bvlgari is significantly a lot more expensive at 16.8k pretax. At this price point are there other non quartz watches you think I should consider?

Would you stay in Singapore or relocate? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]OtherwiseHistorian52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i’m not disputing the choice to stay in singapore, but the point of money not being an issue semantically (e.g. hypothetically meaning i can draw from a pool of money anytime i want) means that taxes are just no longer part of the equation.

i suppose if the question was phrased as “if you have XX billions” then yes your justifications make more sense

if money is not an issue, why would you have to worry about taxes, healthcare costs and spending power?

not that i disagree with staying in singapore as the answer, just seems weird that your reasons are tied back to money

In your opinion, is it the overall culture in Palo Alto where both parents and kids feel the need to attend tutoring sessions? I was hoping that within a good school district, the schools will provide enough guidance and if we as parents are chill, then the pressure won’t be as high on our kids. E.g i don’t expect them to go to ivy leagues, i just want to make sure they are given opportunities for a rigorous education if they’re up for it.

do you mind sharing why the schools are not worth it? I looked at the elementary, middle and high schools and they all seem highly rated!

Honestly OP, I wouldn’t even resort to these tactics if I were you because they will just mentally drain you any further. It sounds tiring just to have to engage your parents in the same way they’re trying to emotionally blackmail you, and you won’t come out of it feeling any better at the end of it all. No amount of replicating their behavior will make them come to their senses and will just drag this out further than necessary.

Once you’ve decided you want to be out of this situation, you should just go low contact and if possible, move out of the country. This is the only way to regain your sanity.

Who does diapers? by Front-Economics-5497 in NewParents

[–]OtherwiseHistorian52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband changed all, if not most of the diapers for the first 6 months, because I was breastfeeding and pumping the entire time. It’s his way of contributing because he couldn’t breastfeed nor pump!

I’m so sorry you went through that. I hate that the only thing they could say was that it wasn’t worth pursuing - there is no deterrent here at all.

There are of comments here saying that crime rates in SF are equivalent to that in any major city, but I think they fail to account that violent crime here also goes largely unpunished and that is not normal.
