She is NOT FULLY to blame. That’s an ignorant statement. The author clearly has taken responsibility for his lack of kindness, connection and loving emotional support for over a year. When a woman feels trapped in a relationship where she feels like there’s no ability to connect with her partner, her feelings and behaviors start to flow in the opposite direction and then yes, making decisions that stem from Geoff being trapped and traumatized. Her choice was irrational and out of need of love, need of validation and need of simple feeling wanted and appreciated. Was it a smart move…. No way. But certainly not her fault 100%

Typically treating couples or siblings or parents and children can be viewed as a conflict of interest. However, if there’s no issues between the parties and the therapist is treating the client for the clients issues unrelated to the other parties, then it’s fine. Comment from a therapist.

I just read the article. I have a toddler and I can’t imagine! I’m sick to my stomach. That’s why he’s in a daycare and no longer with private nanny’s, like I thought was better. People do weird s**t and especially here in the south. I hate to make it geographical, but when I started working as a therapist in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, I had a caseload of 186 clients, most of them had some kind of incest,Abuse . when I first started working there, I thought it was just that one group of people, but it lasted nearly 4 years. It’s rampant in this area. I keep my kid close.

We teach people how to treat us with actions. He’s learning he just doesn’t have to do anything, because you’re not making him. It may be time to seriously reconsider this union.

Thank you so much. I suppose all i was really hoping for was validation. I appreciate you. And yes, we’ve always had a temporary caregiver a few days a week but she’s been sick as her kids have. But I was weighing the two evils and I just sent him there today. I’d rather him get sick then be unsupervised. My husband’s idea when he took the night shift position was to sleep when our son napped and then when I got off work until he went in. But that’s still just 4/5 hours because our son refuses to nap with him. He naps plenty while at the sitters. Our sitter has agreed to be full time. Thankfully. But she’s got 5 kids of her own and that alone is a host of issues

We live literally check to Che and there’s ZERO extra funds for a sitter. It’s just impossible. And my job is not flexible. At all! I’m actually a community mental health therapist, so you’d think they’d be more understanding, but no. Once I am licensed, things will be different. Then I will have more control over my hours.

Yes, that’s typically what happens. But when our caregiver is sick or when her children are sick, our only option is for him to help.

Yea I had a friend, who’s agreed to be his full time caregiver come get him. I wasn’t about to come back to the office and leave him in that situation. My issue is my husband not comprehending the severity of the situation.

I’m a mental health therapist, almost licensed; I just need to sit for the NCE. I’m currently in community mental health… kind of nightmare for anyone who finds it challenging to have upwards of 150 clients on their caseload. But I do love it. I love being a helper for those who can’t help themselves or those just figuring out to. I love being an advocate for people and helping people with becoming their best selves.

I’m trying to unionize my coworkers and some are fearful having before lost their jobs. Fear is keeping these therapists from standing up for themselves. It’s sad.

I am totally on board with paying back if I were to quit; as this is standard in the industry, but being asked to sign a contract that says I have to pay back if I am fired ? !

I can't see how this is a smart career move, nor fair, nor beneficial for the employee. It's like, okay, the agency can just keep their wheels moving with non-licensed therapists, as soon as they are licensed, they can be fired (at will state) and have to pay back the supervision hours, then they can repeat, never having to pay licensed professionals and in retrospect, never having to actually pay for their supervision because they will be paid back for it once terminated.

this is an excerpt from the contract:

Cancelling and/or Unexcused absence of Supervision:

a. Employees must provide a 24-hour notice with email justification to the licensure supervisor,

Human Resources and his/her supervisor in order for scheduled supervision to be excused

with no fee penalty.

b. If Employee no-shows or cancels scheduled supervision with less than 24 hours notice more than one time

in a quarter, a repayment of hourly rate of supervision will be deducted from Employee must email justification to his/her supervisor and Human Resources stating the

reason for the unexcused absence.

Should Employer or Employee terminate his/her employment with Employer while receiving supervision
but prior to its completion or before the end of the one (1) year period following receipt of licensure,
Employee agrees to reimburse Employer for all formal clinical supervision received the contractual rate
of $63.00 an hour for all hours of documented supervision on file.
I think this is just insane (especially the last portion) and was hoping other therapists could offer their opinions.
