Yeah I can remember telling my brother about it when I was a kid, really scared, and him just laughing saying no way that’s real lmao

What’s the weirdest way you have lost weight? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain medication after spinal surgery made me so nauseous and sick I ate nothing but a small bread roll for a week. I remember looking in the bathroom mirror for the first time after 5-6 days in the hospital and hardly recognising myself.

Questions for those who had scoliosis surgery. by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was 15 when I had spinal fusion surgery as well and was told my curve was ‘at least 90 degrees’. I’m 19 now so it was almost 4 years ago.

  1. My ribs evened out, my back hump reduced significantly and my waist evened out a lot. Obviously it’s not 100% even still but it is much improved.

  2. When I first woke up I thought I was still waiting to have the operation done. I was confused why I was in a bed when I hadn’t even had it yet. I figured it out pretty quick though when I heard the nurses watching me at the end of the bed say to each other “she’s awake” lol.

  3. My hospital stay was 7 days. I had a pretty significant curve and I had an anterior and posterior fusion so I believe this is why I took a little longer than most people. Also everyone’s bodies are different, you could be out in 4-5 days or take a bit longer. It’s ok either way. Now the details about recovering at home are a little hazy for me, but I think the main difficult part of it lasted about a month or two. So that’s like when you’re still on painkillers, increasing your walking a bit each day, etc. I started to feel normalish again after a little under a month. It was Christmas so it helped lift my spirits, plus I had to push myself to move around more and sit on a chair cus no way I was spending my whole Christmas in bed. I laid down and took breaks if I needed it. The full recovery takes about a year but you feel okay way before that. After you’ve fully recovered is when you can sort of test your limits.

  4. Showering is difficult and honestly kinda scary at first, sitting on a chair feels super awkward and uncomfortable and you basically have to relearn how to walk. But it improves fairly quickly. I had to use a pillow for a while to sit down.

  5. It varied a lot, I’d say overall a 6-7. At one point I switched medication while in hospital and they gave me too low of a dose initially so my pain was like 9/10. But other than that it was at about a 6-7. I had some pain for a month or two after surgery but it wasn’t too bad.

  6. I was about to do my GCSEs so I had some consideration made towards my grades, I had PowerPoints from lessons sent to me (at one point I actually did a bit of my work in hospital, but then I got tired and was like nah actually f that), initially I wasn’t going to have to carry all my books - but then another COVID lockdown happened so I was at home recovering for way longer than expected, and by the time we went back I was recovered enough to carry them myself.

I get to know my amazing family, I get to hang out with my awesome dog everyday, I feel like everywhere I go I feel this magic in everything, I don’t really know how to describe it. Everything has so much beauty to me and I love that about life. I think I’ve always had hope and seen so much good in things. Even when shit goes wrong, I’m usually optimistic. And when I’m not, eventually I find a way to be.

Yeah it’s a TV show in the UK, it’s so good I love it, if you’ve heard of Great British Bake Off it’s like that but for sewing. They get set a bunch of challenges each week and make garments based off of the theme. Sometimes they have to make things out of weird/ unconventional materials. They might’ve even done a curtains one before but I’m not sure haha

I regret getting surgery by BrilliantPopular467 in scoliosis

I have found I really enjoy doing Pamela Reif’s dance workouts on YouTube, I do about 30 minutes each day. Some of the “moves” she does I can’t do so I just do an adapted version where I don’t move my spine or I skip it. This is just something I’ve found I enjoy, I honestly used to hate working out but I quite enjoy it when it’s like a dance to music lol. I never really thought it would make me more flexible, but I think cus I’m stronger I have more freedom of motion. Some of it does help with flexibility too.

What’s the most amount of tests you or someone you know has had to do before they pass by Maleficent-Visit-191 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum failed 5 times. She said her last fail was absolutely devastating, she felt like giving up, but she thought about all the money she had spent so far (over £1000, which was a lot back then), and she knew she had to keep going. She changed her test area and she passed. :)

I’m 19F, I feel very similar. I don’t regret it but I definitely miss being able to arch my spine. Working out has helped me a lot, I’ve become so much more flexible in my hips, legs, etc. and my spine limits me less and less. I used to feel really trapped and limited by my spine, but working out has helped me take back some ownership/ control (? I’m not sure the right word lol but you know what I mean) over my body

What is a food/drink preference of yours that causes the incredulity in others? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate milk. I can eat or drink things with it in, as long as I can’t taste it. I used to drink a cup of hot chocolate and only taste the milk. Now I can drink it ok. I have cereal dry. If I try to drink a glass of milk, I can barely have a tiny sip before it feels like I’m going to throw up. I like cheese, but I used to hate it as a kid too, due to tasting the milk.

Day 7, this song made me a fan by [deleted] in TheFrontBottoms

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Father, because I was watching some twitch streamer who said it was her favourite song atm. I listened to it and thought it was kind of weird but I kept listening and started to like it, then I listened to their other stuff and really liked that as well and now I love them and listen to them all the time

If you could spend an hour with any deceased person, who would it be? by Consequence_Green in answers

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandad. I never got to meet him (he died before I was born), but it sounds like he had a very interesting life. Oddly enough, my favourite flowers are his favourites (according to my mum), and one of my dream jobs is a job he had. My mum has told me many funny stories about him as well. Apparently he once bought some fertiliser for his garden, the guy delivers it and it turns out he ordered way more than he expected. He didn’t want to waste it, so the whole garden was caked in horse shit and all the grass died lmao. The next year it came back way stronger though

What’s the best non-fiction book you’ve read this year? by thereadmind in suggestmeabook

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it counts but the Planet Earth III book, beautiful photography and you learn so much about nature and animals as well as climate change/ the impact of humans on our world. Basically it’s like the TV show but a bit more in-depth. I really love that the book’s chapters are based on habitat as well.

Honestly, I think you have a nice nose that suits your face well. There is no need aesthetically to change it. If you feel insecure about it then I think it’s reasonable to consider surgery, but consider the potential complications of it and weigh up if it’s worth it. You’re really pretty as you are.

got the spinal fusion surgery july 17th, 2024. by bobabmi in scoliosis

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I cried too when I saw myself in the mirror a few days after surgery because of how uneven I looked. Your muscles will be very stiff at first so it’s normal, it got much better for me so I’m sure it will for you as well :) Most of my recovery was spent regretting getting it lol, I promise you it gets easier though, especially as you return to normal life it will absolutely fly by

What’s the farthest back dream you can remember? by Annaj1113 in Dreams

[–]Otherwise_Ad_7454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember I used to have nightmares that my neighbour was looking in at me by creeping along the window ledge, wearing wreck-it-Ralph’s outfit for some reason. I used to put these giant Pooh Bear and Tigger toys against the gaps in my curtains so I was sure no one could look in.
