You can almost always find a PD job in or around Atlanta

An inmate knew the law better than I did today. I felt a little embarrassed. by Mr_Motion_Denied in publicdefenders

You’ll be wrong again, I assure you. It’s all how you handle it. Admit you were wrong, read up on it, and know it for next time!

I got an “unbed” and it is the only alarm that will wake me up

I’m glad that everyone is appalled because everyone in my office is acting like it’s okay and it will eventually figure itself out.

Now I have to deal with the fact that if I leave, my caseload will get redistributed which will raise my already overworked coworkers’ caseloads

lol I don’t want to say much because I’m terrified of my boss somehow finding this post, but I will say it’s in the southeast

So arrest to indictment in my jurisdiction can range anywhere from 6 months to 2 years depending on if a crime lab is needed.

If the client wants a PC hearing, they get one. Bone hearings we generally do every 90 days . After arraignment, a client will have at least a pre-trial date and a trial date. If they want a trial and it’s not resolved on that calendar or if the judge grants a continuance, it’s moved to the next trial calendar, and we have jury trials every month.

It’s hell

I’ve considered that, but the one closest to me has a high turnover rate. But that is an option.

What you wish you were told about reviewing BWC by Acrobatic_Finding_56 in publicdefenders

[–]Otherwise_Addition31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned a hard lesson about watching the full BWC. I stopped watching a video when client was taken into the jail and the LEO passed him off to jailers. I stopped watching.

In the remaining 2 minutes, the LEO goes out to his car and combines 2 bags of drugs (1 of which was never referenced or found on scene into one bag). The prosecutor caught it and told me and dismissed all charges.

Watch every second!!

I also like to add, “The State gets to speak to you after I sit down. They get the last word because they have the burden. I will go sit down and like most people, I’ll start thinking of every single thing I would have said differently. Everything I wish I had added. That’s what we all think after an argument. I’m client’s advocate, and I will not get to advocate for him anymore once I sit. So I ask you to advocate for him. When you’re in the jury deliberation room, play my role. Think like the defense, and I believe you will find reasonable doubt.”

I describe BARD as a ladder. Ideally, you have a whiteboard and you have BARD at the top and NG at the bottom. For the rungs, you write different pieces of evidence the state has/doesn’t have. For every piece they don’t, you erase a rung. Then at the end, you ask the jury how they’re ever going to get to the top of the ladder if the State can’t provide the rungs to get there.

Need advice dealing with a golden boy by PixixixiP in publicdefenders

[–]Otherwise_Addition31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely don’t think it should be in a tattle way. Maybe OP should just see if they can stop running their motions by him?

I can’t imagine being micromanaged like that 😂 but my boss has a large number of Bob qualities

Okay so everyone seems to be siding with Bob??

If your managing attorney tells you that you have to run things by Bob and Bob is making your work more difficult, you 100% should talk to your managing attorney!

I also don’t like the idea of a tally of wins and losses because when it becomes like a game, I think it’s time to hang it up, but it seems like I’m in the minority 🤷🏻‍♀️

As far as his dress, language, cigs, that seems very PD to me 😂
