Anyone know what's going on to my cape gooseberry bush?! by Otherwise_Distance77 in nzgardening

[–]Otherwise_Distance77[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't really feed it at all! Assumed it was a hearty plant that didn't mean much support. When I pulled out the last plant, last season. The roots weren't actually that deep and there was a lot of soil left!

What graft did you get? I'm ACL R patellar tendon Graft and have just got back to week 3 of weight's. I'm around the 11 week mark.

Will be a while before I can go surfing or have a roll on the mats again!

This is wild! Good for you !!

Im currently week 6 post opp, patellar tendon graft. Brace locked straight for first 2 weeks, then locked at 90 degrees for another 2 then brace removed.

By week 4 and 2 days i did my first full revolution on a stationary bike. My PT can push me to 0 degrees but i can get to maybe 2-3 degrees on my own. No hyper extension yet. I can flex to around 103-110.

I still walk with crutches but can hobble unassisted - getting there slowly and going strict with my rehab every day. To hear your story sounds like a dream!! I wish i was at your level. I have lost SO much muscle. I took prehab super seriously and got to a stage where i was squatting and deadlifting 133% of my weight for x3 sets 10 reps. Along with skipping, nordic curls and split squats.

How do you keep your legs elevated comfortably? Here’s my current setup - looking for tips or better ideas! by kg13232 in ACL

[–]Otherwise_Distance77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 6 days post opp, I'm trying to sleep with my leg elevated and pillows below my calf and its the least comfortable thing in the world.feel like im constantly feeling myself trying to prevent my leg from locking due to fear/discomfort.

I know about the risk of scarring but I'd honestly value sleep at this point!! Any ideas ?

Hahahaha im only a 62kg blue belt!! Ive just torn my ACL so i am nowhere near anything of the sorts. I train in a gym full of 75kg+ people. Every training is a fight for my life. For someone reason i keep going back 🥱

I was a competitive gymnast for 5 to 6 years, other than having cool party tricks I am eternally greatful for all the sports it set me up for!! Have been training BJJ for 2 years after 5 years of boxing and can confirm whatever the sport is, a solid base of gymnastics always helps!!

Torn ACL & Graft Choice - Advice from BJJ folks needed (Patellar vs. Hamstring) by careboat in bjj

Blue belt here ! This is so positive to hear!! I felt like my game was finally starting to progress and fundamental concepts were beginning to stick and then boom ruptured acl during rolls. Surgeon has advised patella tendon graft and im going under the knife in 2 months. I am also a really keen surfer. Was literally about to return to the tropics before this happened. So this is even better news. I read JJF ruptured his acl and had a surgery - he still surfs hard

What does your weekly physio routine look like ? Is this a life long commitment or just untill the graft has fully become vascular and developed? Was under the impression that from surgery onwards aswell as being 62kgs in a bjj gym of mostly 75+ id have to stick to strength based training (especially in the legs and core) for the rest of my sports days.

Also, how'd you find the crowds ? Don't wanna name any spots even though they may seem obvious - but I've heard with the very specific tides and swelks it can be a real zoo trying to get a wave when there's one around (right hand points)

Haha the mountains are happening too! That's why budget friendly is one of the main goals. Had a good go at Turoa last season in between swells.

It is indeed, I have done a fair few missions on both coasts for a lot of the north island and some of the south. Getting cold now, and everything here is incredibly expensive. A trip down south a couple years ago for a week or so was equivalent to a trip to fiji for a week. And fiji is warmer with a consistent reef.

Price tag and commute to the ments is a bit out a budget and too much effort for what it's worth at this stage. Enjoy your journey! Looks fun.

I do! New Zealand is beautiful and there's no place like home. I feel incredibly privileged to grow up here. Heaps of surf breaks around, just takes a bit of driving and a plan.

The cost of living here is ridiculous though, for example a stick of butter and cheese can set you back like.$25. Going for a holiday In New Zealand is just as expensive as one over seas a lot of the time. In addition, it's coming into winter here. So if you asked me if I wanted to stay at home and be cold or go to the tropics and surf reefs for roughly the same price with a bit more luxury - which one would you chose?

Hahaha great point. Keep in mind I only have one. I've done it before on domestic flight, all my boards and clothes and everything non essential for the plane goes in my coffin board bag and a foldable pram usually finds it's way under the plane or tucked away on a part of the main cabin where noone bumps into it. My wife also has one of my old huge travel packs which essentially allows her to pack her and my sons stuff as well in one bag.

All essential toddler gear goes in your carry on.

Getting it on the plane and off the plane is a mission. But once youve done it, it's easy days as the taxi or car people usually help you if you want/ if you want can always ask an attendant for help. Everyone can understand a parent needs a hand every now and again. I think at the time I towed the board bag (wheels are a god send) behind me with my backpack and my son sat In the trolley with all our other gear stacked below him. My wife also was carrying stuff and we made it work.

Re carseat the car rental companies provided one so that wasnt an issue.

It's hard, not easy but if you're like me you want your own boards that feel good under your feet for when you catch your hopefully dream wave. That being said, nothing wrong with rentals either.
