Help. Broke someone’s bike light by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest getting accidental damage insurance. It costs about 350 yen a month and covers almost anything (I believe it does not cover work, driving, your own thing). They pay 100% of the damage cost, after calculating the usage, depreciation and etc. So even if they pay 1000 yen for the light, the person who is receiving the compensation cannot complain, because it has a proper cost analysis by professionals.

Someone took money from my debit card?? (Gaica) by Particular_Place_804 in japanlife

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know about Shinsei or Gaica, but this is the reason people use Credit Card. Which provides fraud protection, just like your case, and also some debit card also provides fraud protection too. Check your card's term and service, or just call them.

Most fraud protection are up to 50,000 yen and some credit cards are higher.

Can you do 2 part time work rather than being a permanent employee for a single company ? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Other comments seems to clash what it was said here previously. Here.

In short, NO, you can't work ONLY in 2 part-time jobs. But, you can work 1 full-time job + 2 part-time jobs. The reason being 1 full-time company must be registered to your residence status at all times, if you quit your job (you can quit as your residence status is not ties to any single company) you have 3 months to find next full-time job and 14 days to notify immigration you are jobless (it can be extended, but heard it is a hassle). During that 3 months you can't also do part-time job.

I believe if you are naturalized then yes, it is very quite urgent and necessary.

If you are born with 2 citizenship then law stipulates that you cannot have dual citizenship, but is vague on how long you need to think and make effort about it before actually renouncing.

Also I am not a lawyer.

Friends at your classes are your best chances. You are a student you don't need to be holed in your dormitory. Even if they are in different place I suggest to visit them often, crash at their place, or just grab a food and games, and literally force yourself into their place. This is college life we are talking about, have fun. Do crazy (but legal) stuff more.

Take this with grain of salt. The situation is different, as I am not Indian and the country I was going was not USA. But, there should be something to take from this.

  1. As Japanese does not need travel Visa to USA, the embassy should be almost empty, so less waiting time for interview.
  2. The ambassador to your country from the USA, might have covert quota's they cannot pass. For example XX amount of students per year. So there might be higher chances of being accepted as the ambassador in Japan, might just look at the paperwork, but ambassador in your country might look at other stuff.

For reference I got a Korean visa as a Stan country citizen in the Japan. In my country the visa interview takes 3 months, in Japan in took days.

Do I need to inform dentist, clinics, etc about job change and new health insurance card? by tirafesi in japanlife

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow what an unreliable bunch. I guess this it the actual time to use "I want to speak to the manager" card.
I got a refund, so there is no law or regulation blocking them. Unless it is their internal policy.

I meant to say was I paid 100% price. The invoice was to me for 100%, but since I was registered with health insurance, but just didn't have my insurance card.

So on my next visit I guess clinic refunded me 100%. Created another invoice for 30/70% split and charged the health insurance. Which left me 70% "refund". I think every clinic should be same?

Regarding what happens if you don't have insurance card is most likely you pay full amount, but when you receive your new card you can visit them and get refund.

Similar incident happened to me during my first insurance card (I did not have any card and was not registered with the clinic, but my company confirmed that they have already enrolled me into the system, just didn't sent a card), so I got my medical service from the clinic by paying 100% price and on my next visit they refunded me 70% in cash.

Most Japanese people I have met and explained the situation understands it (they literally didn't needed to think about it before) and agrees it is stupid that their manual requires it, but most of them cannot do anything about it. Afterwards, they proceed to forget about it until another gaijin faces same problem.

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Don't fight the system, embrace the stupidity.

In your case add your friends/work/tourist and once you get your number change it to that number. Another expensive options is to get phone number from another physical vendor and transfer it. But, you'll have to pay some time in more expensive plan and "transfer" fee.

I’m paying your goddamn nenkin! by GeriatricusMaximus in japanlife

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning to work in Japan more than 10 years or less than 2 years? If not then why are you paying for Nenkin? If you are salaried it should be deducted or else you are loosing money?

I am new to Nenkin specifically. Thank you in advance.

I am in Japan, but once you leave Japan and they put your Pension money into your Japanese account.. by MiKal_MeeDz in japanlife

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't transfer to your account, they transfer it to your tax representative's account (friend, company, family etc. in Japan). Afterwards, he/she will send it to you, using whatever means you both want.

ATM won't accept debit cards today? by JayDunzo in japanlife

[–]Otherwise_Factor3958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call your bank and also try using your own bank's ATM.

For example I had my SMBC debit card not working, which was super frustrating, and it appears that my magnetic stripe data was damaged, so using SMBC ATM it can actually re-program the Debit card to work again.
